What makes Aizawl a different place to build a website for
Aizawl sits along a series of ridges, with neighbourhoods stacked one above another and roads that wind between them. That geography shapes how people shop and search. A customer in Durtlang does not casually drop into a store in Bara Bazar; the trip takes planning, a taxi and some time in traffic on the main road. So before anyone makes that journey, they check. Is the shop open, does it have the item, what does it cost, and is there a number that someone will answer? A website that answers those questions clearly saves the customer a wasted trip and brings you a buyer who has already decided.
The city also reads differently from most of India. Mizoram is among the most literate states in the country, English is widely used in business and schooling, and Mizo is written in the Roman script. Hindi is far less common in everyday searching than it is in the plains. That means a website for an Aizawl audience should usually lead with clear English, add Mizo where it helps, and skip the Hindi-first habits that many template-driven agencies apply everywhere without thinking.
Finally, much of Aizawl's economy is tied to the state government, church-run institutions, schools, hospitals, retail and a growing set of small enterprises selling Mizo food, clothing and crafts. Buyers are careful, word of mouth is powerful, and reputations travel quickly in a close-knit society. A plain, honest, well-organised site fits that culture far better than a flashy one with stock photos of people who obviously are not from Mizoram.
What a website costs in Aizawl, and why quotes vary so much
Because the local market is small, many Aizawl owners get quotes from firms in Guwahati, Kolkata or Delhi, and the numbers are all over the place. The same five-page brochure site can be quoted at many times the price by one firm as by another. The cheap end usually means a recycled theme, no search setup and hosting held in the developer's name. The expensive end frequently pays for a sales office far away and a project manager who relays your messages to someone else.
Our pricing is public. A static business website starts from ₹10,000 and normally takes one to two weeks. A 299+ page SEO website with separate pages for each service and area you cover starts from ₹20,000 and takes three to five weeks. Online stores with UPI and card payments start from ₹50,000, custom web applications from ₹60,000, AI and WhatsApp automation from ₹40,000, and monthly SEO from ₹10,000. See the full list on our pricing page.
What moves the number is scope, not your postcode. A homestay with four rooms needs far less than a school with admissions, fee payment and a notice board. Adding a Mizo-language version adds pages to translate and check. We send a written, itemised quote within about two working days and bill nothing until you approve it in writing.
- Static site, from ₹10,000: up to 100 pages, mobile layout, enquiry form, map, basic SEO. Fits clinics, consultants, tuition centres and small shops.
- SEO site, from ₹20,000: 299+ pages covering each service, locality and FAQ. Fits service firms that want Google enquiries.
- Online store, from ₹50,000: catalogue, cart, UPI and card checkout. Fits puan weavers, food producers and boutiques.
- Custom web app, from ₹60,000: logins, roles and dashboards. Fits schools, distributors and tour operators.
Sairang, Lengpui and the new wave of visitors
For decades Aizawl was reached by road from Silchar or by air through Lengpui. The Bairabi–Sairang railway line, inaugurated in September 2025, changed that. Sairang is now connected to the national network, with services such as the Rajdhani to Delhi and trains to Kolkata and Guwahati, and reports marking the line's first year say it carried well over a million passengers. That opens Mizoram to travellers who would never have planned a long road trip from Assam.
Those travellers plan online. They search for a homestay near Reiek, a guide for Hmuifang, a taxi from Sairang to Chanmari, or a place to stay during Chapchar Kut, and they book whoever gives a clear answer first. Many small tourism businesses in and around Aizawl still depend only on a Facebook page or a phone number shared by friends, which is hard to find from Kolkata or Bengaluru and impossible to compare.
For homestays, guesthouses and tour operators we build fast sites with room or package pages, real photographs, rates or rate ranges, a clear note on Inner Line Permit requirements with a link to the official source, directions from Sairang and Lengpui, and an availability enquiry that lands on WhatsApp. Where you want payment upfront, we add a UPI or Razorpay deposit step. The aim is simple: when a visitor searches, they should find your place, trust what they see and book without three days of back-and-forth messages.
Taking puan and Mizo handloom beyond Bara Bazar
Mizo handlooms carry several geographical indication tags, among them Mizo Puanchei, the colourful wraparound worn at weddings, and Tawlhlohpuan, a tightly woven fabric produced in Aizawl and in Thenzawl in Serchhip district. Weavers and small labels sell through Bara Bazar stalls, boutiques in Zarkawt and Dawrpui, exhibitions and Instagram. Demand from the Mizo community living in Delhi, Bengaluru, Shillong and abroad is steady, and interest from buyers outside the community is growing.
Selling handloom online has its own difficulties. Every piece differs slightly, colours shift on phone screens, and a buyer paying several thousand rupees wants to know exactly what they are getting. We build stores that show each design with several honest photographs in daylight, dimensions, weave type, care instructions and the name of the weaving unit where you are comfortable sharing it. Where a product carries a GI tag, we explain what that means rather than just printing the phrase.
Checkout runs on UPI and cards through Razorpay, with courier rates set by pin code, since shipping from Aizawl to Delhi costs more than local delivery and customers should see that before they pay. For bulk or wholesale buyers such as boutiques and emporiums, a separate enquiry form collects quantity and deadline. Small weaving groups often start with a catalogue site that sends orders to WhatsApp, then move to a full store once online orders become regular.
Shops in Zarkawt, Dawrpui and the main market belt
Aizawl's retail life runs along a few central stretches. Bara Bazar is the oldest and busiest market, selling everything from vegetables and local produce to garments and household goods. Zarkawt and Chanmari hold fashion boutiques, footwear, electronics and restaurants, and Chanmari has a Saturday morning street market for fresh produce. Millennium Centre in Dawrpui packs hundreds of small shops into one multi-storey building. Much of what is sold here, from clothes to electronics, arrives through Silchar and Guwahati or through the Myanmar border trade at Zokhawthar.
For these retailers a large ecommerce site is rarely the first need. What helps most is being easy to find and easy to ask. A shop in Millennium Centre benefits from a page that states the floor and shop number, the brands stocked, opening days (many Aizawl shops close on Sundays) and a WhatsApp button. A boutique in Zarkawt benefits from a new arrivals page that customers check before making the trip.
We usually start retail clients with a compact catalogue site and a properly set up Google Business Profile, then add a store only if customers begin asking to pay online. Price display is your decision; many shopkeepers prefer “ask for price” on fast-moving items, and we build around that rather than forcing a checkout onto a business that sells mostly face to face.
Colleges, schools and coaching centres
Education is one of Aizawl's largest sectors. Mizoram University sits at Tanhril on the city's edge, NIT Mizoram and NIELIT Aizawl train engineers and IT students, ICFAI University Mizoram and several colleges add more, and Zoram Medical College at Falkawn trains doctors. Around them are private schools, tuition centres, competitive exam coaching, computer training institutes and hostels, many of them serving students who come from other districts such as Lunglei, Champhai and Kolasib.
Families and students from outside Aizawl cannot visit five institutes to compare them. They look online for courses, fees, results, hostel availability and how to apply. We build education sites where each course has its own page, admission dates are easy to find, results are published in a format Google can read, and the enquiry form sends details straight to a counsellor's phone. For schools, a notices section that staff can update themselves avoids the familiar problem of a homepage announcing last year's admission dates.
Where fees are collected online, we connect a payment gateway with receipts sent automatically. For coaching centres running recorded or live classes, we can add a student login with lecture videos and practice tests. Everything is designed to load well on the modest phones and mobile connections many students actually use.
Hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres
Aizawl is the medical centre for most of Mizoram. Synod Hospital at Durtlang, founded by missionaries in 1928 and now run by the Mizoram Presbyterian Church Synod, is known to nearly everyone as “Durtlang Hospital”. Civil Hospital Aizawl, Zoram Medical College, private hospitals and a large number of clinics, dental practices, pharmacies and diagnostic laboratories serve patients who often travel from other districts.
A patient coming in from Serchhip or Mamit needs practical detail before the journey: which doctor is available on which day, OPD timings, whether an appointment is required, what tests can be done on site and how to reach the building. Many clinic websites in the region, where they exist at all, show a building photograph and a list of departments. We build doctor pages with qualifications and consultation days, service pages in plain English, an appointment request form, and directions that mention landmarks people really use.
We are careful with medical content. We do not publish success claims or treatment promises your doctors have not approved, and we keep advice general. For diagnostic labs we can add online report download behind a secure login, which saves patients a second trip up the hill just to collect a printout.
Anthurium, fruit, bamboo and small Mizo enterprises
Mizoram's farms and forests supply a set of distinctive products. Anthurium flowers from the state are highly regarded, and Reiek, about an hour from Aizawl, hosts an annual Anthurium Festival. Mizoram is also among the larger producers of passion fruit and strawberry, and bamboo covers much of the land. The state's industrial policy has long listed bamboo and timber products, food and fruit processing, handloom and IT as thrust areas, and the Industrial Growth Centre at Luangmual on the city's western side hosts some of these units.
Many of these enterprises are small: a family making fruit preserves, a cooperative growing flowers, a workshop turning bamboo into furniture or household goods. They sell locally first, then to buyers in Guwahati, Kolkata or Delhi, and the second step is where a website earns its keep. A buyer in another state wants to see the product range, packaging, shelf life, FSSAI details for food items, minimum order and how shipping works.
We build product catalogues with that information laid out clearly, an enquiry form for trade buyers and, where it makes sense, a small retail store for direct orders. For perishable goods such as flowers, we keep the site honest about delivery limits instead of promising nationwide shipping that a courier cannot handle. Registered MSMEs can also use the site to support applications and tenders by presenting their capacity and certifications neatly.
Local SEO in Aizawl: English, Mizo and ridge-by-ridge maps
Local search in Aizawl has two sides. The map pack, the three pinned businesses Google shows first, depends heavily on your Google Business Profile, your reviews and how close the searcher is. In a city built on ridges, distance on a map can mislead: Khatla and Chanmari look close, yet the drive can take a while at peak hours. Google still weighs straight-line distance, so a clinic in Bawngkawn will naturally rank better for someone searching in Durtlang than for someone in Kulikawn. We concentrate effort on the localities you can realistically serve.
The organic results below the map depend on your pages. We write a page per service and, only where genuine, a page per area. Search language matters here. Most Aizawl customers search in English, some mix Mizo words into their queries, and Mizo-speaking customers respond well to key headings and FAQs in Mizo. We use English as the base and add Mizo text you or your staff provide or check, because a badly machine-translated Mizo page does more harm than none. For Hindi-speaking traders and officers posted in the city, a few Hinglish phrases such as “Aizawl mein hotel booking” can also be covered.
The technical base matters too: fast pages on weak signal, correct schema, a sitemap in Search Console and consistent business details across Justdial and other directories. Monthly SEO starts from ₹10,000 through our SEO service, with a plain-language report each month and no promise of a guaranteed first position.
- Google Business Profile category, photos, hours and review requests
- Service and locality pages for real Aizawl areas you cover
- English content with Mizo headings and FAQs checked by a native speaker
- Consistent name, address and phone details across directories
- Monthly Search Console report explained in plain language
WhatsApp and AI automation for Aizawl shops, homestays and institutes
Most Aizawl businesses already run their customer conversations on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. A homestay owner answers the same room-rate question twenty times in a week. A tuition centre is asked about fees and batch timings on repeat during admissions. A boutique posts a new puan design and spends the evening replying “yes, still available” to each person who messages.
Automation handles much of that. We connect your website form, WhatsApp Business number and a Google Sheet or simple CRM so every enquiry is recorded with name, number, question and date. An AI assistant can answer fixed questions about prices, timings, availability or directions in English, and in Mizo where you have supplied approved answers, and it passes anything unusual or sensitive to a person. For homestays, a booking request can create a calendar entry and send the guest a confirmation. For institutes, fee reminders and notices can go out on schedule.
Automation projects start from ₹40,000 and usually take two to four weeks. We look at how you work today before building anything, and we leave judgement calls, payment disputes and anything medical with your staff. If an automation would only save a few minutes a week, we will tell you it is not worth paying for.
Working with a remote team from Aizawl
We do not have an office in Aizawl, or anywhere else, and we will not invent one. We are three engineers who work remotely for clients across India. For a Mizoram business that is less unusual than it sounds; you are probably already used to working with suppliers in Guwahati and Kolkata by phone. The difference is that you talk to the people actually writing your code, not a salesperson, and there is no office rent hidden in your quote.
The process runs on WhatsApp, calls and screen sharing. We start by asking about your customers and what you want the site to do, then send a page plan, timeline and itemised quote. Within the first week or two you get a live preview link to open on your own phone, over the same mobile network your customers use. Feedback goes on WhatsApp and small corrections are often made the same day. We reply seven days a week on Indian Standard Time.
One of us leads full-stack development. Another of us handles AI, machine learning, AWS and data work. The third of us manages projects and looks after data science and automation. You always know who is doing what, and you can reach any of us directly. Read more about how we build on our web development page.
Your domain, your hosting, and two free months of upkeep
A familiar story in smaller markets goes like this: a relative or an outside agency built the website years ago, registered the domain under their own email, and has since stopped replying. The renewal lapses, the site disappears, and the business loses the address printed on every visiting card. We make sure that cannot happen to you.
The domain is registered in your name, the hosting account is in your name, and at launch you receive every login plus a short note explaining where each part lives. The source code is yours to keep or hand to any other developer, with no exit charge. If you later hire someone in Aizawl to take over, they can start the same day.
For two months after launch, maintenance is free. That covers text and price changes, bug fixes, security and software updates, backups, uptime checks and speed tests. Afterwards maintenance costs from ₹8,000 a month, or you can simply message us when you need something done. To start a conversation, use our contact page or WhatsApp.
