What does a website redesign in Surat actually involve?
It means replacing the design, structure and often the technology of an existing site while keeping what already works: the pages Google trusts, the links pointing at you, your business email and the enquiries arriving each week.
Redesigns come in three sizes. A refresh changes the look and fixes mobile layout but keeps the same pages and platform. A rebuild keeps the domain but changes page structure and content, which means URLs change. A replatform moves the site to new technology, such as an ageing custom CMS to a fast static build, and usually changes URLs too. Each size carries more risk to rankings than the one before it, so each needs more planning.
In Surat we mostly see rebuilds. A site built years ago for a textile trader, hospital or diamond firm has grown pages nobody remembers, a menu that no longer matches the business and a layout that breaks on phones. The owner wants something modern, and the real job is making sure the modern site inherits the old one’s search history.
If you are unsure whether you need a redesign at all, our website development services in Surat page explains the alternatives.
When does a Surat business website need a redesign?
When it is costing you enquiries, not simply when it looks old. Age alone is a weak reason; poor results are a strong one.
Surat sells to buyers far beyond the city: retailers across India buying fabric, jewellery buyers abroad, patients and parents across south Gujarat comparing options on their phones. If your site fails that first look, the buyer moves on without calling. These are the signs we take seriously:
- Most visitors arrive on phones, but the site needs pinching and zooming
- Pages take several seconds to show anything on mobile data
- The contact form fails silently or lands in spam
- Products, services or branches listed are years out of date
- Browsers show “Not secure” because the site has no SSL certificate
- Your staff cannot update anything without calling a developer
- The platform or plugins no longer receive security updates
- Competitors in Gujarat appear above you for searches you used to win
One or two of these can sometimes be fixed without a redesign. Four or more usually means the rebuild costs less than the patches. Our “website showing not secure” guide covers the SSL problem on its own.
How much does a website redesign in Surat cost?
Redesigned business sites start at ₹10,000 (about US$150), and redesigned stores start at ₹50,000. Large sites with 299 or more pages built from data start at ₹20,000.
A redesign often costs a little more than a new site with the same pages, and the reason is the work new sites skip: auditing old pages, mapping URLs, testing redirects, moving content and protecting email during the switch. That extra work is where your rankings are protected, so it should appear on the quote, not be quietly dropped.
The main cost drivers are the number of old URLs, the amount of content to rewrite or merge, whether the platform or domain changes, and the features to rebuild, such as product catalogues, booking forms or downloads. A twelve-page site moving to a new design on the same domain is a small job. A 900-page catalogue moving platforms is not.
National benchmarks are on website redesign cost in India, and city-wide prices for new builds are on website development cost in Surat.
Step one: audit what your old Surat site already earns
Before any design, we record what the current site does well. This is the step most redesigns skip, and it is the one that protects you.
We pull data from Google Search Console to see which pages earn impressions and clicks, and for which searches. Analytics shows which pages lead to enquiries. A crawl lists every URL on the site, including forgotten pages and PDFs. Backlink data shows which pages other websites link to, such as a trade directory or a news site. Your Google Business Profile tells us which page it points at.
From that we build a single sheet: every old URL, its traffic, its links, its enquiries and a decision. For a typical Surat business site, a handful of pages bring most of the search traffic, often a product or service page with the city name in it, and those pages are treated with special care.
If you have no Search Console access today, we help you verify the site first. Even a few days of data is better than none, and Search Console also shows historic performance once verified.
Step two: URL mapping and 301 redirects
Every old URL that has traffic, links or enquiries gets a permanent 301 redirect to the most relevant new page. That is the single most important technical step in any website redesign in Surat.
A redirect tells browsers and search engines that a page has moved for good. Google’s own documentation on redirects explains that permanent redirects are a strong signal that the new address should replace the old one in search results.
The rules we follow are simple. Redirect each old page to its closest equivalent, not everything to the home page. Avoid chains where one redirect leads to another. Keep the same URL wherever the page still exists, because no redirect is better than a good redirect. Retire pages that are truly obsolete with a clear “gone” response rather than a misleading redirect.
Every redirect is tested on staging with a script that visits each old URL and records where it lands. After launch, the same test runs on the live domain, and Search Console’s error reports are watched for any address we missed.
Keep, merge, rewrite or drop: deciding what content survives
Keep what ranks, merge what overlaps, rewrite what is thin and drop what nobody needs. Content decisions should follow the audit numbers, not taste.
Old Surat sites often carry three pages saying nearly the same thing, such as “Fabric Exporter”, “Fabric Exporters in Surat” and “Fabric Export Company”, each with a few lines. Merged into one solid page with a redirect from the other two, they usually perform better than they did apart.
Pages that rank should keep their main topic, headings and most of their substance, even if the wording improves. Changing a ranking page from “Polyester fabric wholesaler” to a vague “Our Collections” title is a common way to lose a position you held for years.
We can draft rewritten pages from your notes and old content for your approval, priced as its own line in the quote. If you prefer to write, we send a template for each page type. Either way, nothing goes live until you have read it.
Change only what you must, and change it in a controlled order. Each change, whether platform, domain or hosting, adds risk; doing all three at once is possible but needs extra care.
Platform changes are common. Many Surat redesigns move from an old WordPress theme loaded with plugins, or from a builder such as Wix, to a lean static site or a cleaner WordPress setup. Content, images and metadata are exported, cleaned and rebuilt, with the URL map deciding addresses.
Domain changes are riskier. If you are moving from an old domain to a new brand domain, every page on the old domain must redirect to its match on the new one, and Search Console’s change-of-address tool should be used. Google’s guide to site moves with URL changes sets out the official steps.
Hosting changes threaten email more than rankings. When DNS moves, mail records must move too, or your business email stops. We list your existing mail records before touching anything and confirm mail flows after the switch.
What the new design should fix: phones, WhatsApp and enquiries
The new design should make the next step obvious on a phone: call, WhatsApp, request a quote, book, pay. Most redesign briefs in Surat are really about that, even when they start with “make it look modern”.
We design for small screens first. Phone numbers become tap-to-call, buttons are large enough for thumbs, forms ask for the minimum, and text is readable without zooming. Images are resized so a page full of fabric or jewellery photos still opens quickly on mobile data.
WhatsApp gets a permanent button with a prefilled message that tells your team which page the visitor came from. For businesses that take payment, UPI and card options are added through a payment provider you contract with, and for stores, checkout is rebuilt and tested with small real payments.
Accessibility basics come along too: readable contrast, labels on form fields and images with descriptions. They help visitors and search engines alike, and they cost almost nothing when included from the start.
Adding Gujarati pages as part of the redesign
A redesign is the cheapest moment to add a Gujarati version, because the structure is being rebuilt anyway. We set up Unicode Gujarati text, a web font such as Noto Sans Gujarati, Hind Vadodara or Baloo Bhai 2 from Google Fonts, a language switcher and separate URLs with the right language tags.
The Gujarati copy itself comes from you or your translator, or you approve a draft you commission. The BtechWaleTech team writes in English and Hindi, so we never publish Gujarati text we cannot vouch for.
For most Surat businesses, a sensible first step is Gujarati versions of the home, about, main service and contact pages. Local customers, patients and parents feel at home, while buyers elsewhere in India and abroad continue with English or Hindi.
Plan who will translate new pages after launch, otherwise the Gujarati side falls behind the English one within months. Our Gujarati website development guide covers workflow and URL choices in more detail.
After launch: watching rankings, Google Business Profile and AI answers
Expect some movement in rankings for a few weeks after any redesign, even a careful one. The goal is that it settles at the old level or better, and that any drop is spotted and fixed quickly. Nobody can guarantee rankings, before or after a redesign.
In the first days we submit the new sitemap, check that Google can crawl key pages, run the redirect test on the live domain and watch for 404 errors. Over the following weeks we compare impressions and clicks for the pages that mattered in the audit. If one slips, we look at what changed on it and fix it.
Your Google Business Profile must point to the right page and match the site’s name, address and phone exactly. If the redesign changed your contact page address, update the profile link the same day.
For AI assistants and Google’s AI Overviews, structure helps: one question per heading, a direct answer in the first paragraph, tables for comparisons and schema for your organisation, services and FAQs. We build redesigned pages that way. Optional monthly SEO starts at ₹10,000/mo.
How long does a website redesign in Surat take, and how does it run?
Most business-site redesigns take 2–4 weeks, including the audit; stores and large catalogues take longer. All of it runs remotely over WhatsApp, calls and screen-share, while your current site stays live.
- Day 1–2: you share the site address and Search Console or analytics access; we audit and send an itemised quote
- Week 1: URL map and content decisions agreed; design of key pages shared on staging
- Week 2: full build, content moved or rewritten, forms and WhatsApp connected
- Week 3: redirects written and tested, speed checked, your review on your own devices
- Launch: DNS switched in a quiet hour, email checked, redirects re-tested, sitemap submitted
- Next 8 weeks: Search Console, 404s and enquiries monitored during free maintenance
The longest delays come from missing logins to the old hosting or domain. Finding those early saves days.
Choosing who redesigns your site, and the warning signs
Choose the person who asks about your traffic before showing you designs. A redesign proposal without a word about redirects or Search Console is a proposal to gamble with your rankings.
Ask each candidate how they would protect your top five pages, what they will do with old URLs, and how they will check email after the DNS change. Ask to see a site they redesigned and, if possible, what happened to its search traffic afterwards.
- Warning sign: no audit, just a mood board and a price
- Warning sign: “we’ll redirect everything to the home page”
- Warning sign: plan to change domain, platform and hosting with no written steps
- Warning sign: domain or hosting to be moved into the developer’s name
- Warning sign: guarantees of better rankings after launch
- Good sign: a URL map you can open and understand

Recovering old logins and keeping ownership in your name
Many Surat redesigns start with a hunt for logins. The old developer registered the domain, the hosting is on someone’s personal card, and nobody knows the admin password.
We help you recover each account in your business name before the redesign begins. Domain control is first, because without it nothing can be switched. Hosting comes next, then the old site’s admin and any analytics or Search Console properties. Where a former developer holds an account, we explain exactly what to ask for and how to transfer it.
The new site is set up in your name from the first day: domain, hosting, Search Console, analytics and the code repository. We work through separate access you can remove.
At handover you receive the URL map and redirect list for your records, a list of every account and renewal date, a short recording on editing content and a backup. If anyone ever redesigns the site again, that URL map saves them days.
A worked example: redesigning a spares supplier’s site in Udhna
The following scenario is hypothetical and exists only to show the steps. It describes no real client and claims no results.
Say a supplier of embroidery and textile machine spares in Udhna has a site built about ten years ago: 140 pages, many of them near-identical product listings, no SSL certificate, a layout that breaks on phones and a domain registered by a former employee. Enquiries from Google still arrive, mostly through four product category pages.
First, the owner recovers the domain with our guidance. The audit shows those four category pages earn most clicks, and twenty product pages have links from trade directories. The URL map keeps the four category URLs exactly, merges 60 thin product listings into 15 fuller pages with redirects, and retires obsolete items.
The new static site launches on the same domain with SSL, a quote form that accepts photos of worn parts, a WhatsApp button and Gujarati versions of the category and contact pages written by the owner’s son. The scope starts from ₹10,000, with lines for the audit, merging content and the Gujarati pages. Search Console is watched closely through the two free maintenance months.
Maintenance after a redesign, and redesigns around Surat
Every redesign includes two months of free maintenance after launch, which we use for monitoring as much as for fixes: redirect checks, 404 reports, form tests, backups and small edits. After that, optional care starts at ₹8,000/mo, explained on website maintenance in Surat.
The same remote process works for older sites across south Gujarat. Industrial units around Hazira and Sachin GIDC, chemical firms in Ankleshwar and Vapi, and schools and hospitals in Navsari often have sites a decade old that still hold useful rankings worth protecting.
