Why does website design cost in Singapore vary so much between quotes?
Quotes vary because each supplier is pricing a different job, even when the brief looks identical. One vendor assumes you will supply every word and photo; another assumes a copywriter, a photographer and three rounds of revisions. One uses a purchased theme; another designs every template from a blank canvas. Until the scope is itemised, you are comparing guesses.
The labour behind a company website splits into roughly five buckets: discovery and planning, visual design, content, development, and launch plus aftercare. A low quote usually trims discovery and content to almost nothing. A high quote often includes account management, strategy workshops and a retainer. Both can be honest; they just buy different outcomes.
Location and overheads matter too. A studio with a CBD office, sales staff and project managers must recover those costs in every project. A remote freelance team carries less overhead, which is why our business sites start at US$150. What you should never accept is a quote that hides the split. Ask every supplier to show the website design cost in Singapore dollars or US dollars against named deliverables, then compare line by line.
- Number of unique page templates, not total pages
- Who writes, edits and uploads the copy
- Custom illustrations, photography or stock licences
- Forms, booking, payments, CRM or accounting links
- Languages published (English only or English plus Chinese)
- Maintenance, hosting and SEO bundled in or left out
What are the main price bands for a website in Singapore?
There are four practical bands: do-it-yourself builders, solo freelancers, local agencies and remote teams. Each sits at a different point on the trade-off between cash, your own time and the level of care you get after launch.
We don't publish other suppliers' figures because they change and vary by scope, but the pattern is consistent. DIY builders charge the least upfront and the most in your hours. Solo freelancers in Singapore sit in the middle, with quality ranging from excellent to risky. Local agencies charge the most because they sell strategy, meetings and account managers along with the site. Remote teams, like our group of three in India, usually land between a DIY subscription and a local freelancer for the build itself.
DIY builder
Good for a one-page presence you will update yourself. The real website design cost here is your weekends, plus a subscription that never ends.
Solo freelancer
Can be great value. Ask what happens if they fall ill or take on a full-time job, and insist that logins sit in your name from day one.
Local agency
Worth it if you need in-person workshops, a brand identity and a single team for design, photography and ads.
Remote freelance team
Lower overheads, near full-day overlap with Singapore time, and three people instead of one. Business sites start at US$150.
What should a website design quote in Singapore include?
A proper quote names every page template, every integration, the number of revision rounds, who supplies the content, the launch tasks and exactly what happens after go-live. If a line says only “5-page website package”, you cannot hold anyone to anything.
Ours arrives in about two working days and lists each item with its own USD amount. You approve it in writing before anything is billed, and you can remove lines you don't need. That structure is also the best defence against surprise invoices later, because any new request gets its own line and its own approval.
- Sitemap: the list of pages and which template each one uses
- Design: number of concepts and revision rounds
- Content: who writes, who proofreads, who uploads
- Technical SEO: titles, meta descriptions, schema, XML sitemap, Search Console
- Speed targets: Core Web Vitals checked on a mid-range phone
- Forms: where enquiries go and how consent is recorded
- Launch: DNS, SSL certificate, redirects from any old URLs
- Aftercare: free support period, then the monthly rate
If a quote leaves out redirects and you already have a site with rankings, you are paying for a redesign that might cost you traffic. Our website revamp guide for Singapore explains why redirect mapping belongs in the price.
What recurring costs come after the website design cost in Singapore?
After launch you keep paying for three things: the domain name, the hosting and some form of maintenance. Many cheap packages look attractive only because these are bundled into the first year and then renewed at a higher rate.
The .sg domain is registered through an SGNIC-accredited registrar; SGNIC publishes the list of accredited registrars. SGNIC's VerifiedID@SG process also asks the administrative contact to verify the registrant's identity, so the domain should be registered to your business with your own details, not to the web designer's account. Foreign applicants need a local administrative contact with a Singapore address, which is one more reason for the domain to sit with you.
Hosting depends on the stack. A static business site can live on low-cost static hosting or a content delivery network; a WordPress site needs PHP hosting, ideally in or near Singapore. We set the account up in your company's name, so the bill comes to you directly and nobody can hold your site hostage.
Maintenance covers updates, backups, monitoring and small edits. Ours is free for two months after launch and then starts at US$120/mo. Some businesses skip it for a static site that rarely changes; a WordPress site with plugins should never go unmaintained. See website maintenance in Singapore for what a plan ought to include.
What are the red flags in a cheap website design package in Singapore?
The biggest red flag is ownership: if the designer registers the domain or hosting in their own name, you rent your website instead of owning it. The second is vagueness, where the package lists a page count and nothing else.
Cheap is not automatically bad. Our own business sites start at US$150, and a well-built static site can be both inexpensive and excellent. The trouble starts when a low headline price is recovered later through lock-ins, compulsory hosting, paid edits for every typo or a builder that cannot be exported. Read the terms before the portfolio.
- Domain or hosting registered in the supplier's name
- “Free website” tied to a multi-year hosting or marketing contract
- No mention of who owns the design files and code
- Unlimited revisions promised with no defined scope
- Stock photos with no licence information
- Ranking guarantees; nobody can guarantee Google positions
- A quote with no timeline or milestones
- Payment demanded in full before any design is shown
You can check how we handle payment terms and cancellations on our terms page; the specifics for your project are written into your quote before you approve it.
Can the PSG grant reduce my website design cost in Singapore?
Only if you buy a pre-approved solution from a vendor on the government's list. Enterprise Singapore's Productivity Solutions Grant supports pre-approved IT solutions chosen through GoBusiness, and the quotation has to follow the approved package.
Two points trip up many SMEs. First, the grant is tied to specific vendors and packages, so a custom site from any supplier outside the list is not claimable. Second, Enterprise Singapore states that applicants must not have made payment or paid any deposit before submitting the application, so paying a deposit first can disqualify the claim.
We are not a PSG pre-approved vendor, and we won't pretend otherwise. For many small businesses the grant is still worth checking, because it can offset part of a packaged solution. Compare the final out-of-pocket amount, the scope of the approved package and the lock-in period against a straightforward quote. Sometimes the grant-supported route is cheaper; sometimes the package includes things you do not need and a smaller direct build costs less overall. Either way, decide on scope first and funding second.
Does GST change how much a website costs or how prices are shown?
For the build itself, you should ask your accountant how GST applies to services bought from an overseas supplier; we don't advise on tax treatment. What we can tell you is how GST affects the website's content.
IRAS states that GST-registered businesses must show GST-inclusive prices in all price displays to the public, including websites, and that the current rate is 9% from 1 January 2024. Its guidance on displaying and quoting prices also says that if you show both inclusive and exclusive prices, the inclusive one must be at least as prominent.
That matters for price lists, service menus and online stores. We build price components so the GST-inclusive figure is the main number, with an optional “before GST” line in smaller text for B2B buyers. If you are not GST-registered, the component can simply show the price without any GST label. It is a small design detail that saves a rework later.
Does the number of pages decide website design cost?
Not by itself. The number of unique layouts drives design and development effort far more than the raw page count. Ten service pages that share one template cost much less than ten pages that each need their own design.
That is why our static plan allows up to 100 pages from US$150: once a service-page template exists, adding another service page is mostly content work. The expensive parts are the home page, the first instance of each template, any interactive element (calculators, filters, booking) and anything that talks to another system.
Where page count genuinely changes the price is content. Every page needs words that are accurate and not copied, and someone has to produce them. If you write the copy, the build stays close to the starting price. If you want us to structure and edit your drafts, that is included. Original long-form writing across dozens of pages is a separate line, and you still approve every word before it goes live.
Cheap to add
Another service page, another team profile, another FAQ entry on an existing template.
Costly to add
A new template, a calculator, a members' area, a booking flow or a second language.
Is SEO included in the website design cost?
Technical SEO foundations should be included in any professional build; ongoing SEO campaigns should not be, because they are a separate monthly service. Be wary of any package that mixes the two into one vague “SEO included” line.
Every site we build ships with clean headings, unique titles and meta descriptions, schema markup for your business type, an XML sitemap submitted in Google Search Console, image compression and pages tested against Core Web Vitals on a mobile connection. We also structure key pages with short, direct answers so Google's AI Overviews and assistants such as ChatGPT or Perplexity can quote them accurately.
Ongoing SEO means researching queries people type on google.com.sg, writing or improving pages, fixing technical issues as they appear and earning mentions from other sites. That starts at US$150/mo with us, and the SEO cost guide for Singapore explains what each tier should include. Nobody can honestly guarantee a ranking; anyone who does is a reason to walk away.
Custom design or a theme: which gives better value?
A well-chosen theme gives better value when your business is a standard service business and speed matters. Custom design gives better value when your brand, your audience or your conversion path is unusual enough that a theme would fight you.
There is a middle route we use often: a lean base with custom-designed key templates. The home page, the main service template and the contact page get proper design attention; the rest reuses components. You get a site that does not look like thousands of others without paying for every template to be drawn from scratch.
Choose a theme when
You need to launch in days, your content is simple, and you would rather spend the budget on copy or ads.
Choose custom when
You sell a premium service, your visitors compare you closely with competitors, or you need layouts no theme offers.
Avoid
Heavy multipurpose themes stacked with plugins. They look cheap to start with and cost more to keep fast and secure.
If WordPress is your preference, the WordPress page for Singapore SMEs compares block themes with page builders in more depth.
How does working with a website designer in India work from Singapore?
It works much like working with a local freelancer, except that meetings are on video and the time difference is small. India is two and a half hours behind Singapore, so our normal working day overlaps with most of the Singapore business day; a 3 pm SGT call is 12:30 pm in India.
The first two weeks follow a set pattern. Day one is a video call to agree pages, goals and who supplies content. Within about two working days you receive an itemised quote in USD. After you approve it in writing, we share a sitemap and a first design direction, usually within the first week. Development follows on a staging link you can open on your own phone. For a business website, launch typically lands in week two.
Payments go by Wise, bank wire or PayPal, and invoices come from India. The domain, hosting, code and any analytics accounts are created in your business's name, and we are added as users. If we part ways later, you remove our access and nothing breaks. Contracts are your written quote and our standard terms; ask if your company needs its own agreement signed.
- Calls on Google Meet, Zoom or Teams, in English
- WhatsApp for quick questions, 7 days a week
- A staging link for every review round
- Weekly written progress notes
How long does a website take, and does a faster timeline cost more?
A business website with us usually takes one to two weeks, an SEO website three to five weeks and an online store four to eight weeks. The biggest variable is not development speed; it is how quickly content and feedback arrive.
Most delays happen while waiting for copy, photos, logins to an old domain or sign-off from a director who was not in the first call. You can compress a timeline far more by preparing those than by paying anyone extra. Ask about expedited delivery if you have a hard launch date; any change to the schedule is agreed in your written quote.
- Day 1–2: discovery call, itemised quote
- Days 3–5: sitemap, wireframes and first design
- Days 5–9: build on staging, content loaded
- Days 9–12: your review, fixes, speed and SEO checks
- Launch day: DNS switch, SSL, Search Console, analytics
What hidden costs push the website design cost up in Singapore?
The usual hidden costs are premium plugins, stock image licences, email hosting, paid form or booking tools, translation, and professional photography. None of them is bad; they just need to be visible before you approve a budget.
We list third-party subscriptions separately on the quote, with the provider named, so you know what you will pay them directly. Where a free or open-source option does the job, we suggest it. Where a paid tool is genuinely better, for example a booking system your front desk already knows, we explain why.
Email
Business email on your domain (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365) is billed per user by those providers, not by us.
Images
Stock images need a licence. Your own photos of your team and premises usually convert better anyway.
Translations
An English/Chinese site needs translated copy that you supply or approve; we build the bilingual structure.
Legal pages
Privacy policy and terms should be reviewed by your own lawyer; we place them and link them properly.
Worked example: pricing a website for a small Singapore consultancy
This is a hypothetical example, not a real client. Say a four-person HR consultancy near Tanjong Pagar wants a site with a home page, six service pages, an about page with team profiles, a resources section for articles and a contact page with a booking link.
That is five unique templates: home, service, about, article and contact. The six service pages share one template, and the articles share another. The consultancy writes its own drafts; we edit them for structure and search. They want a calendar booking link from a tool they already use and a PDPA-friendly enquiry form that records consent.
This project fits the business website plan, which starts at US$150, delivered in roughly two weeks. The itemised quote would show design, build, content editing, technical SEO, the form, and launch tasks separately. The recurring lines would list the .sg domain renewal and hosting paid to those providers directly, followed by two months of free maintenance, then maintenance from US$120/mo if they want it.
If the same consultancy later wanted 150 location-and-industry pages to target searches across Singapore, that would move them into the SEO website plan from US$300. The design would carry over; the new work is the data structure and the content.
How do I compare website design quotes from different Singapore suppliers?
Put every quote into the same table: templates, content, integrations, SEO foundations, revisions, timeline, ownership, recurring fees and support. Where a quote is silent, write “not included” until the supplier says otherwise.
Then total the first three years, not only the first invoice. A package with a low build price and a compulsory yearly bundle can overtake a higher build price with optional maintenance by year two. Finally, check who you would actually work with. An agency may assign a junior designer; a solo freelancer is one person. With us you get the same three developers from the first call to launch.
- Same scope written into every quote before comparing
- Three-year total, including domain, hosting and support
- Named owner of the domain, hosting and code
- Revision rounds and what counts as a new request
- Who you speak to, and how fast they reply
Website design cost checklist: before you pay a deposit
Run through this list before transferring any money in Singapore or abroad. It takes ten minutes and prevents most of the disputes we hear about from businesses who come to us after a bad first build.
- The quote is itemised and in writing
- The domain will be registered to your business
- The hosting account will be in your name
- You will receive admin logins at launch
- The design files and code are handed over
- Revision rounds and timeline are stated
- Recurring costs are listed with providers named
- Aftercare terms and monthly rate are clear
- Nobody has promised a guaranteed Google ranking
- If you want PSG funding, you have not paid anything yet
Want our version of this on paper? Send your page list on WhatsApp or through the contact page and you will have an itemised quote in about two working days.
