Sivakasi: a town built by three industries
Few towns of its size have shaped an entire country's festivals and stationery the way Sivakasi has. In the mid-1920s, P. Ayya Nadar and his cousin A. Shanmuga Nadar trained in match-making and returned to set up a factory here. Matches led to fireworks, and the need for colourful labels and boxes led to printing. A century later, those three trades still define the town.
The numbers explain the scale. The town has around 520 registered printing units, about 53 match factories and a large number of licensed fireworks manufacturers, along with chemical, packaging and paper suppliers. Printing here produces a large share of India's diaries, and calendars, labels, cartons and notebooks go to buyers across the country.
The town's nickname, “Kutty Japan”, reflects that history of building its own industry. Today Sivakasi is a municipal corporation in Virudhunagar district, with Thiruthangal right next door and Sattur, Srivilliputhur and Virudhunagar within easy reach.
That industrial base means websites here are mostly about business buyers, dealers and bulk orders, not casual shoppers. We design for that.
Websites for printing presses and packaging units
A company in Chennai, Bengaluru or Delhi looking for someone to print 5,000 diaries or 20,000 calendars will search online, shortlist a few Sivakasi printers and ask for samples and rates. Many presses still depend on old contacts and trade portals, which means competing on price with everyone else listed there.
A good printing website changes the conversation. We build pages for each product type (wall calendars, table calendars, diaries, notebooks, labels, cartons, brochures), each with sizes, paper options, binding and finishing choices, minimum quantities and typical turnaround. A machinery and capability page lists your presses, cutting, lamination, foil stamping or UV facilities. A gallery of real past jobs, with client permission, does more than any sales pitch.
The key feature is a proper enquiry form. It asks for product, size, quantity, paper, colours, finishing and delivery date, and lets the buyer upload artwork or a reference file. Your estimator gets everything needed for a quote on the first message instead of the fifth.
Such sites usually start from ₹10,000, or from ₹20,000 when you want a separate search-optimised page for every product and finish.
- Product pages for calendars, diaries, notebooks, labels and cartons
- Machinery and finishing capability page
- Enquiry form with file upload and specification fields
- Sample gallery of real jobs shared with permission
Planning around the calendar and diary season
Sivakasi printers live by the year-end rush. Companies, banks, jewellers and traders order calendars and diaries months ahead, and a press that is booked out by autumn cannot take new work at any price. Getting found early matters more than getting found cheaply.
We plan websites and search pages to go live well before buyers start looking, usually by the middle of the year. New season designs can be added as a catalogue with codes, so resellers and corporate buyers can pick templates and send their logo for customisation. A clear “last date for bulk orders” message on the site reduces the late-season panic calls.
During the rush, the website also saves time. Order status pages, a WhatsApp update when proofs are ready and a simple approval link mean fewer calls asking “is my job done?” Presses that sell template calendars and diaries to small businesses can even take advance payments online.
Fireworks manufacturers: dealer catalogues, not online checkout
Fireworks are Sivakasi's most famous product and the most regulated. Court orders and licensing rules govern what can be made, which chemicals can be used, and how crackers are stored, transported and sold. The Supreme Court's 2018 directions restricted barium-based crackers and pushed the industry towards green crackers certified through CSIR-NEERI, and online sale of firecrackers has been restricted.
Because of that, we do not build shopping carts that sell fireworks to the public. What we do build is useful and within the rules: company websites that explain your licences, safety practices and green-certified product range; dealer and distributor catalogues behind a login, showing product codes, pack sizes and specifications to licensed traders; and enquiry forms that route dealer requests to your sales team.
Buyers increasingly want proof that a manufacturer takes safety seriously, given the history of accidents in the industry. A factual page on your safety training, storage and compliance, based only on what you actually do, supports trust with dealers and officials alike. We will not publish claims you cannot back up, and we advise you to have a legal adviser review any compliance statements.
Match factories and allied chemical suppliers
Sivakasi's match industry supplies a large share of India's safety matches, alongside units in nearby towns. Match makers sell mainly to distributors and exporters, and their buyers want brand names, pack formats, carton sizes, stick counts and dispatch capacity.
A match unit's website is usually simple: brands and pack sizes with photos, export capability, certifications you hold, factory photos and a contact route for distributors. Where a unit has its own brands, a page per brand helps distributors and retailers find it by name. For export enquiries, we add English pages written for overseas buyers with clear information on minimum orders and container loads.
Chemical, paper, splints and packaging suppliers to these units benefit from similar product listings with enquiry forms. These businesses are often family-run and rarely advertise, so even a modest, well-organised website makes them easier to find than competitors who rely on word of mouth alone.
Where units share a common brand or work through a cooperative, a shared catalogue with separate contact routes for each member can keep costs down while still giving every unit its own page.
Website prices for Sivakasi businesses
Sivakasi owners hear everything from ₹3,000 template offers to agency quotes in lakhs. The first usually leaves your domain with the builder and ignores search; the second carries overheads you never see. We publish our starting prices so you can compare honestly.
A static site of up to 100 pages starts at ₹10,000, typically live in one to two weeks. A search-led site of 299+ pages, useful for printers with many product and finish combinations, starts at ₹20,000 and takes three to five weeks. Automation starts at ₹40,000, online stores at ₹50,000 and custom software at ₹60,000. Monthly SEO is from ₹10,000. Details are on our pricing page.
These are the lowest starting points. Large catalogues, dealer logins, file uploads and Tamil translations add to the quote, and each item is spelt out in writing before you commit.
- From ₹10,000: company site with enquiry form, map and WhatsApp button.
- From ₹20,000: 299+ page site covering every print product and finish.
- From ₹50,000: online store for diaries, notebooks or stationery.
- From ₹60,000: print job tracking or dealer ordering software.
Job tracking software for print units
Inside a busy Sivakasi press, jobs move from enquiry to design, proof, plate, printing, finishing, packing and dispatch. When that flow lives on paper job cards and phone calls, jobs get delayed, proofs are approved on the wrong version, and nobody knows which order is stuck.
We build web-based job tracking to match your process. Each job gets a card with specifications, artwork files, proof versions and approvals. Supervisors update stages from a phone. The customer gets a WhatsApp message when a proof is ready and approves it through a link, so there is a record. Paper, board and plate stock can be tracked alongside, with alerts when stock runs low.
Custom software starts from ₹60,000 and typically takes six to twelve weeks. We start with the part that causes most trouble, usually proofing or dispatch, and add the rest once it is working well.
Selling diaries, notebooks and stationery online
Printing is the one Sivakasi trade that fits comfortably into ordinary online selling. Diaries, notebooks, planners, greeting cards, wedding invitations and personalised calendars can all be sold directly to schools, offices, small businesses and individual buyers anywhere in India.
We build stores that handle what printed goods need: bulk price slabs so a buyer ordering 500 notebooks sees a lower rate than one ordering 50, a logo or name upload for personalised items, a proof step before printing, and shipping calculated by weight and pin code. Payments run through UPI, cards and netbanking via Razorpay, and GST invoices are generated automatically for business buyers.
Wedding card and invitation printers can add a design gallery with codes, text entry fields and a WhatsApp proof link, which reduces the endless back-and-forth over spelling and dates. Schools ordering notebooks with their own cover can reorder each year from a saved design. Stores start from ₹50,000 and take four to eight weeks.
Reading your own numbers before the next season
Every Sivakasi industry is seasonal. Calendars and diaries peak before the new year, fireworks before Deepavali, and wedding cards around the marriage months. Owners usually plan paper purchases, labour and credit on instinct and last year's memory.
Most firms already hold the data needed to plan better, scattered across billing software, Tally exports, order books and WhatsApp. We bring it into one simple dashboard showing orders by month and product, paper and board consumption, pending dues by customer and the share of repeat buyers. After a season or two, it becomes clear which products earn the most, which customers pay late and when to start buying stock.
These dashboards run on Google Sheets or a small database, with no expensive licences, and are usually built alongside automation or job tracking work. Your accountant and partners can view them without touching the underlying files.
Shops, schools and clinics in the town
Beyond the factories, Sivakasi is a busy town with textile and jewellery shops, electronics dealers, hotels, restaurants, schools, colleges and hospitals serving workers and families from the surrounding villages. Many of these businesses rely on word of mouth and a Google listing that may not even show the right timings.
For schools and colleges, including the engineering and arts colleges in the area, parents and students want courses, fees, facilities, hostel and transport details and an admission enquiry. Clinics need doctor profiles, timings and directions. Shops benefit most from a clean Google Business Profile and a simple site with products, offers and a WhatsApp button.
We write these sites in Tamil first where that suits the customers, with English alongside, and keep them light enough to load quickly on any phone.
Temples such as the Kasi Viswanathar and Badhrakali Amman temples draw devotees during festivals, and hotels, restaurants and sweet shops near them can pick up extra visitors with an accurate map listing, current photos and clear timings. Workers moving to the town for the season also search for lodges, mess facilities and rented rooms, and a simple page with prices and a WhatsApp number answers most of their questions before they arrive.
Local SEO in Sivakasi: Tamil searches and real places
Sivakasi businesses face two kinds of search. National buyers look for “calendar printers in Sivakasi” or “diary manufacturers Sivakasi”, while locals look for a clinic, a school or a shop nearby. Our SEO service handles both.
For national searches, we build detailed product and capability pages, help you gather reviews from real business customers and get listed correctly on trade directories. For local searches, the Google map pack matters most, so we fix your Business Profile, categories, photos and hours. People type in Tamil, English and Tanglish: “Sivakasi calendar printing rate”, “Thiruthangal road printing press”, “Sattur road hospital”. We write for those phrases.
We name only the areas you truly serve, such as Thiruthangal, Paraipatti, Sattur Road or Viswanatham, rather than creating fake pages for places you have never delivered to. Monthly SEO starts at ₹10,000, and we do not promise first-page rankings.
- Business Profile clean-up with real factory and shop photos
- Tamil and English pages matching real search phrases
- Product pages that national print buyers look for
- Consistent listings on trade directories and Justdial
WhatsApp and AI automation for Sivakasi firms
Most Sivakasi business happens on WhatsApp. Print buyers send artwork, dealers send order lists, and agents forward photos of shop signboards. During peak season a single number can receive hundreds of messages a day, and important ones get buried.
We connect your WhatsApp Business number to your website and a sheet or small CRM. An assistant can collect print specifications, answer routine questions about sizes, paper and delivery times from information you approve, share catalogue links and hand the chat to an estimator. Manufacturers can send dealers updates on new catalogues or dispatch dates.
AI automation starts from ₹40,000. Pricing discussions, complaints and anything touching regulation stay with your people, and we will tell you if a bot would not help your business.
What to check before hiring a web developer
Before you pay any developer, ask whose name the domain will be in, whether you will get the hosting login, and what happens if something breaks after launch. If they avoid clear answers, move on.
Ask to see live sites they have built and open them on your phone using mobile data. For a printing or manufacturing business, check whether they understand bulk buyers and dealer enquiries, not only retail stores. For a fireworks company, check that they know the rules around online sales and will not build something that puts your licence at risk.
Be careful with anyone promising the top spot on Google in weeks. And watch how quickly they reply before you pay, because it rarely gets faster afterwards. Finally, ask who will actually do the work, and whether you can speak to that person directly once the project starts.
How our remote team works with Sivakasi clients
We do not have a Sivakasi office, and we will not invent one. We are three engineers working remotely for businesses across India, and you speak directly to the people who build your project.
One of us is our full-stack developer. Another of us handles AI, machine learning, AWS and data work. The third of us manages projects and covers data science and automation. A project starts with a WhatsApp chat or call about your business, followed by a page plan and itemised quote in about two working days. You check progress on your own phone through a preview link.
We keep IST hours and reply seven days a week, including during your busy season. To begin, send us a message with what you make and who buys it.
You own everything, and support continues after launch
Many Sivakasi firms have had a website vanish because the domain was booked by a developer who later stopped answering. We set up every project to avoid this. Domain and hosting are in your name, every login is handed over at launch and the code belongs to you.
For two months after launch we provide free updates, fixes, security patches, backups and uptime checks. After that, maintenance starts from ₹8,000 a month, or you can contact us only when needed. There is no exit fee if you move to another developer, and we leave a simple handover note.
Read more about each type of build on our web development page.
