Why Dharmavaram's web needs start with the saree
Dharmavaram calls itself the Silk City of Andhra Pradesh, and for once the label is not an exaggeration. The town's working life revolves around mulberry silk, zari and the loom. Handloom pattu sarees and paavadas from here carry a Geographical Indication, and the district administration lists the silk saree as its One District One Product. Its own count puts the weaving community at more than 28,000 families across Sri Sathya Sai and the wider Rayalaseema belt.
That tells you who needs a website here. There are master weavers who give out yarn and collect finished pieces, showrooms selling to brides' families, wholesale houses supplying shops in Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, dyers, zari dealers, loom and jacquard repairers, and transport agents moving parcels. Around them sit the ordinary town businesses: schools, clinics, hardware shops and groundnut traders.
Most saree buyers now look online before they travel. A family in Hyderabad planning a wedding will compare Dharmavaram prices on their phone, read about handloom versus powerloom, and message two or three sellers. The seller whose site answers those questions clearly tends to get the visit or the order.
We are three remote engineers, and we build for that buyer first, while keeping every site light enough to open on a village mobile connection.
Proving a saree is genuine handloom
The biggest worry of a Dharmavaram weaver is not the lack of buyers. It is the flood of powerloom and imitation sarees sold under the town's name. Reports from the weaving community describe traders passing off machine-made pieces as original handloom, which undercuts families who spend days on a single saree with two weavers working the loom together.
A website cannot solve that problem, but it can help an honest seller stand apart. We build product pages that separate handloom and powerloom pieces openly, show close-up photos of the reverse side and selvedge, note the weaving time, and mention the GI registration and any Handloom Mark or Silk Mark labels you genuinely hold. Where you have them, short videos of the loom at work are more convincing than any paragraph.
We also add a plain “How to check a Dharmavaram saree” page written in Telugu and English. It explains what a buyer can look for, what the labels mean, and why a real handloom piece costs what it costs. Buyers remember the seller who taught them something, and these pages are often the ones that bring visitors from search.
We will not help write claims you cannot support. If a saree is powerloom, the page says so and prices it accordingly. That honesty is what makes the handloom pages believable.
Online stores for pattu sarees and paavadas
Selling silk online is different from selling T-shirts. Each saree is close to one of a kind, colours shift under different light, and the buyer wants to know border width, pallu design, body pattern, zari type and weight before paying several thousand rupees. We design stores around those details.
A typical Dharmavaram store has collections by occasion (bridal, festival, daily silk), by border and by price band, with a quantity of one for single pieces so nothing is sold twice. Payments run through UPI, cards and netbanking via Razorpay, and shipping is set by pin code, with insured courier options for high-value pieces. Paavadas and children's pattu sets can sit in their own section with size charts.
Photography matters more than design. We give you a simple shooting guide: daylight near a window, one full drape, one border close-up, one pallu shot, one reverse side. If a relative with a good phone follows it, your catalogue will look trustworthy.
Stores start from ₹50,000 and take four to eight weeks. Sellers not yet ready for checkout can begin with a WhatsApp catalogue site inside the ₹10,000 build, where every saree has a code and an enquiry button.
- Single-piece stock so a sold saree disappears automatically
- Border, pallu, zari and weight fields on every product
- Insured shipping rules for higher-value orders
- Separate sections for bridal, festival and paavada sets
Master weavers and wholesale saree houses
Much of Dharmavaram's trade never reaches a retail counter. Master weavers supply showrooms in larger cities, and wholesale houses sell by the dozen to shops across South India. These buyers do not want a retail store. They want to see current designs quickly, know the minimum order and understand dispatch times.
For them we build a trade catalogue behind a simple login. Approved shop owners see wholesale rates, available colours per design, pack sizes and expected production time. They can place an order that drops straight into a Google Sheet or a small order system, and your team confirms it on WhatsApp. New designs can be uploaded from a phone in a few minutes.
Behind the scenes, many master weavers track yarn issued, pieces received and wages paid in notebooks. A custom web app can hold that record per loom and per weaver, show pending pieces and advances, and send a weekly statement on WhatsApp. These systems start from ₹60,000 and grow only as far as you need.
What a Dharmavaram website actually costs
Quotes in town range from a few thousand rupees for a template to big numbers from city agencies. The cheap option rarely includes your own domain or any search setup, and the expensive one often includes an office and sales team you are paying for indirectly. We publish our starting prices so you can compare without guessing.
A static business site of up to 100 pages starts at ₹10,000 and takes one to two weeks. A search-focused site of 299+ pages, useful when you want a page for each saree style, colour family or buyer question in Telugu and English, starts at ₹20,000 and takes three to five weeks. Automation starts at ₹40,000, online stores at ₹50,000 and custom software at ₹60,000. Monthly SEO is from ₹10,000. The full breakdown is on our pricing page.
These are floors. Photography help, large catalogues, a login for wholesale buyers or a third language all move the figure upward, and the quote will say exactly by how much.
- From ₹10,000: showroom or business site with WhatsApp button, map and basic SEO.
- From ₹20,000: 299+ page bilingual site with schema, sitemap and Search Console.
- From ₹50,000: saree store with UPI, cards, shipping rules and order alerts.
- From ₹60,000: loom, yarn and wage records or a wholesale order system.
Leather puppets, crafts and small makers
Silk is not the only craft near Dharmavaram. The village of Nimmalakunta is known for tholu bommalata, the leather shadow puppets of Andhra Pradesh, and its artisans also make lamp shades, wall hangings and decorative pieces from the same painted leather. Buyers include collectors, interior designers, museums and gift shops in metros and abroad.
A small craft site does a lot for such makers. It tells the story of the puppet tradition in plain words, shows each piece with size, material and care notes, and gives a clear way to order or commission. International buyers want shipping options and payment by card, which Razorpay handles. We keep the catalogue small and well photographed rather than stuffed with every item made in a year.
The same approach suits other small producers around the town: people making jute or cloth bags from saree offcuts, embroidery units, and home-based food businesses. A modest site with ten or fifteen products, honest descriptions and quick WhatsApp replies can be enough to start taking orders from outside Andhra.
Schools, clinics and shops in town
Dharmavaram is a municipality of around 1.2 lakh people, with 40 wards and schools teaching in Telugu, English and Urdu. Its everyday businesses need websites for different reasons from the saree trade. Parents compare schools, patients look up doctors, and farmers look for input dealers and tractor mechanics.
For schools, the site should show medium of instruction, classes, fee structure, bus routes and a calendar, with an admission enquiry that reaches the office on WhatsApp. Clinics need doctor profiles, timings, languages spoken and directions from the railway station or bus stand. Hardware, electrical and furniture shops benefit mostly from a strong Google Business Profile and a simple product page or two.
Farm businesses tied to groundnut, the main rain-fed crop in the area, can list seed varieties, fertiliser and pesticide stock, and the villages they deliver to. We keep these sites short, fast and in Telugu first, because that is how the customers read.
Getting found: Telugu searches, Maps and real place names
Two kinds of people search for Dharmavaram businesses. Locals look for a doctor or a shop near them, and outsiders look for the town's sarees. Our SEO work treats them separately.
For local searches, the Google map pack decides most outcomes. We set up or clean your Business Profile with the right categories, timings and photos, get reviews flowing from real customers and correct your listing on Justdial and other directories. Searches are often typed in Telugu written with English letters: “Dharmavaram lo pattu cheeralu”, “Dharmavaram station daggara hospital”, “Bathalapalli road hardware shop”. We write for those phrases and name only the areas and nearby mandals you truly serve.
For saree searches from outside, the competition is national marketplaces and big retailers. A small seller wins with specific pages: a guide to bridal Dharmavaram colours, a page on handloom identification, a clear price range explanation. Results usually take months, and we never promise a top position. Monthly SEO starts at ₹10,000.
- Business Profile clean-up with real loom and showroom photos
- Telugu and English pages for phrases buyers actually type
- Guide pages that answer handloom and pricing questions
- Consistent details across Justdial and saree directories
WhatsApp and AI automation for saree sellers
A Dharmavaram showroom's WhatsApp can get dozens of messages a day during the wedding season, mostly the same few questions: price range, available colours, whether a design is in stock, and how long delivery takes. Staff answer each one by hand, and serious buyers get lost among casual ones.
We connect your WhatsApp Business number to your catalogue and a simple order sheet. An assistant replies to routine questions using information you approve, sends the right catalogue link, asks for budget and occasion, and hands the conversation to a salesperson once the buyer is serious. Master weavers can use the same system to message shop owners when new designs are ready.
AI automation starts from ₹40,000. We keep bargaining, custom orders and payment problems with people, because that is where trust is built or lost, and we will tell you plainly if your volume is too low for automation to be worth it.
Using sales data before the wedding season
Silk sellers carry stock for months, and yarn and zari prices move. Guessing which colours and price bands will sell ties up money in slow pieces. Most shops already have the data they need, spread across billing software, WhatsApp chats and notebooks.
We pull that into a simple dashboard: sales by month, colour family, border type, price band and buyer city. After one season, patterns usually appear, such as which bridal colours sell to Bengaluru buyers and which stay on the shelf. Master weavers can see output per loom and pending pieces at a glance.
These dashboards run on Google Sheets or a small database, so there is no expensive licence. We set them up as part of automation or custom software work, and your staff can keep feeding them with the tools they already use.
Selling to families in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and abroad
A large share of Dharmavaram silk ends up far from the town. Families in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai buy for weddings and housewarmings, and Telugu families living in the Gulf, the United States or Singapore often order sarees for relatives back home. These buyers cannot touch the fabric, so everything depends on what your pages and your replies tell them.
We plan the site around their doubts. Each product shows the colour under daylight and indoor light, the exact length and whether a blouse piece is included. A delivery page explains courier partners, insurance, typical time to each metro and how returns work for damaged parcels. For overseas buyers, card payments through Razorpay and a clear note on customs and shipping cost prevent awkward surprises after the order.
Video calls help too. Many sellers already show sarees live on WhatsApp video. We add a simple “book a video viewing” form so the buyer picks a time, the salesperson gets a reminder, and nobody is caught unprepared in the middle of a busy afternoon at the showroom.
Gifting is another steady stream. People buying for a mother's birthday or a sister's seemantham want gift wrap, a printed message and delivery to a different address. These are small features, but they make the difference between a buyer who orders once and one who returns every festival season.
How we work with Dharmavaram clients from a distance
We have no office in Dharmavaram and will not pretend otherwise. We are three engineers working remotely for clients across India, and you talk directly with the people writing your code.
One of us builds the websites and stores as our full-stack developer. Another of us handles AI, machine learning, AWS and data work. The third of us manages projects and looks after data science and automation. A project starts with a WhatsApp conversation about what you sell and to whom, followed by a page plan and an itemised quote within about two working days.
You review a preview link on your own phone, send corrections as voice notes or photos if that is easier, and we reply seven days a week on IST hours. When you are ready, send us a message with a line about your business and, if you have one, your Instagram or catalogue link.
Your domain, your code, and who fixes things later
Several Dharmavaram sellers have lost websites because the domain was booked in a developer's name and nobody renewed it. We set up every project so that cannot happen. The domain and hosting are registered to you, all logins are handed over at launch, and the code is yours to keep or move.
For two months after launch, we handle updates, bug fixes, security patches, backups and uptime checks at no cost. After that, maintenance continues from ₹8,000 a month, or you can call us only when something needs changing. There is no exit fee if you choose another developer, and we leave a short note explaining how everything is set up.
Our web development page explains each type of build in more detail if you want to read before talking to us.
