Motihari: history, administration and a district market
Motihari is the headquarters of East Champaran district, part of the Tirhut division of north Bihar. The town is split by the Motijheel lake and is best known for two historical connections. Mahatma Gandhi arrived here in April 1917 to begin the Champaran Satyagraha against the exploitation of indigo farmers, an event marked by a memorial pillar designed by Nandalal Bose. George Orwell was born in Motihari, and his birthplace is now a museum.
Today the town is the administrative, educational and commercial centre for a large and mostly rural district. Courts, government offices, hospitals, coaching centres and wholesale markets draw people from blocks across East Champaran every day. Hindi is used for business, Bhojpuri is spoken widely at home, and Urdu is also an official language.
The district economy rests on agriculture, including paddy, wheat, sugarcane and litchi, on small agro-based and engineering units, and on trade with Nepal through Raxaul. Mehsi, within the district, is home to a pearl button industry that the Bihar government describes as the only one of its kind in India. A Motihari website succeeds when it reflects this mix of local, regional and cross-border customers.
How much a website costs in Motihari
Website quotes in Motihari range from very cheap templates offered by a local cyber café to expensive packages from Patna or Delhi agencies. The difficulty is that few quotes say what is included, who will own the domain, or what changes will cost after launch. We prefer to itemise everything.
Here is where our numbers begin. Ten thousand rupees is the entry point for a static site of up to 100 pages, normally finished inside a fortnight. Twenty thousand rupees onwards buys a 299+ page SEO build, where every course, specialty, product line or service gets its own page; allow three to five weeks. Automation on WhatsApp or with AI begins at ₹40,000, a proper online shop at ₹50,000 and bespoke software at ₹60,000, while ongoing monthly SEO begins at ₹10,000. Every one of these is a floor, not a ceiling, and the pricing page lays them side by side.
What you pay depends on scope. A coaching institute with batch registrations and fee payments, or a button unit with a buyer portal, needs more than a mobile shop with one page. If the quote is higher than you expected, we show which items can wait until later.
- Starter site, ₹10,000 onwards: as many as 100 pages, click-to-WhatsApp, a contact form and your map location.
- Large SEO site, ₹20,000 onwards: 299+ pages with structured data, an XML sitemap and Search Console linked.
- WhatsApp automation, ₹40,000 onwards: instant answers, an enquiry sheet and fee or appointment reminders.
- Online shop, ₹50,000 onwards: product listings, UPI and card payments, courier charges by pin code, order pings on WhatsApp.
Coaching institutes, schools and colleges
Education is one of Motihari's largest service sectors. Mahatma Gandhi Central University, MS College and Motihari College of Engineering bring students and faculty from across Bihar and beyond. Coaching institutes prepare students for board exams, NEET, JEE, BPSC, SSC, railway and banking recruitment, and they compete hard for the same families.
Parents and students compare institutes on their phones before visiting. A coaching website should give each batch its own page: the exam, the start date, timings, duration, medium of teaching, fee range if you choose to publish it and a registration form. A notice page that staff update from a phone saves the office from answering the same question fifty times.
Results are shown with each student's consent and with exact exam names and years, never vague claims. For larger institutes, online registration with UPI fee payment and an automatic receipt makes admission season far easier. Schools can add admission steps, transport routes and circulars as downloadable files.
Hospitals, nursing homes and labs
Motihari's hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and diagnostic labs serve patients from all over East Champaran and from neighbouring districts. Families often travel from blocks like Chakia, Dhaka or Sugauli and decide where to go the night before based on what their phone shows them: which doctor is available, what the timings are and how to reach the hospital.
Each doctor and department gets a page listing OPD days and hours, the emergency number and a route from Chhatauni bus stand or Bapudham station, and a booking button drops the request straight into the reception WhatsApp. Labs get test lists with fasting and preparation notes and report timings. Pages are written in Hindi and English, with key instructions in simple language.
Medical content is written carefully. We avoid promises of cures and unverified success figures, and your doctors approve every page before it goes live. We also keep patient details out of public forms, collecting only what reception needs to confirm an appointment.
Mehsi's button industry began in 1905, when Bhulawan Lal started handcrafting buttons from oyster shells gathered from the Sikrahna river. According to the district administration, about 160 units spread over 13 panchayats now employ around ten thousand workers directly and twice that number indirectly. Most sell through traders to garment makers far away, often without the buyer knowing where the buttons were made.
A website can change that for units ready to sell directly. We build catalogue sites with sizes, shapes, finishes, hole patterns and packing formats, photographed clearly against a plain background. A buyer enquiry form asks for size, quantity, finish and delivery location and forwards the request to your WhatsApp. For repeat buyers, a simple portal from ₹60,000 can show available stock and order status.
We describe the product honestly: natural shell, handmade or machine-finished, and any treatment used. We only mention certifications or export registrations you actually hold. A clear story about Mehsi's century-old craft, told with real photographs of the workshop, is a genuine advantage with garment and fashion buyers.
Border trade through Raxaul and Birgunj
Raxaul, on the border with Nepal opposite Birgunj, is East Champaran's main gateway for cross-border trade and hosts the district's industrial area. Wholesalers, transporters, clearing agents, warehouses and hotels in Raxaul and Motihari serve traders from both sides of the border.
For these businesses, a website works as a credibility check. A Nepali trader or an Indian supplier who has never met you wants to know what you deal in, the routes you serve, your warehouse capacity, your GST details and how to reach you. A clear site with real photographs and a named contact person answers those questions before the first call.
We are careful with anything related to customs, permits or duties. We only publish procedures you confirm are current, and we point readers to official sources rather than giving advice we cannot stand behind. Internal tools, such as consignment registers and dispatch tracking, start at ₹60,000.
Shops and wholesalers in Motihari's markets
Motihari's markets, around Chhatauni, Raja Bazar, Meena Bazar, Janpul Road and Balua, supply the town and a wide rural area. Wholesalers of groceries, cloth, electronics, hardware, medicines and building materials sell to shopkeepers from surrounding blocks, while retail shops serve families who come into town for weddings, festivals and monthly shopping.
For retail, the Google Business Profile often matters more than the website itself: correct category, opening hours, photographs of the shop front and products, and genuine reviews. A small website adds product highlights, offers and a WhatsApp button. For wholesalers, a price-on-request catalogue with a WhatsApp order route and a clear delivery area works well.
Wedding and festival seasons bring the biggest rush. We help you publish seasonal pages early enough for search engines to find them, and we keep them editable from your phone so you can update stock or offers without calling anyone.
Farm inputs, litchi and agro-based units
Agriculture remains the base of East Champaran's economy. Paddy, wheat, sugarcane, maize and litchi are grown widely, and Mehsi is known for its litchi orchards as much as for its buttons. Agro-based units make up the largest share of registered small industries in the district, and the district also has a sizeable inland fishery.
Seed, fertiliser and pesticide dealers, tractor and pump sellers, rice and flour mills, and litchi traders all benefit from a Hindi-first website that lists products by crop and season, gives licence details and offers a WhatsApp button for availability checks. Litchi growers and traders can publish harvest-season pages for buyers in other states.
We are careful with agricultural claims. We do not publish yield promises or dosage advice that has not come from the manufacturer or an agriculture officer. Honest, specific pages with your own photographs of stock, orchards and packing earn more trust than bold slogans.
Heritage visitors, hotels and travel services
Motihari draws visitors interested in the Champaran Satyagraha, the Gandhi memorial and Orwell's birthplace. The district also has the Kesaria stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in India, and Buddhist pilgrims travelling between Vaishali and Kushinagar pass through the region. Travellers heading to Nepal through Raxaul add to hotel demand.
Hotels, lodges, restaurants and taxi operators benefit from clear websites with room photographs, tariff ranges, directions, and routes to Kesaria, Raxaul, Bettiah and Muzaffarpur. A WhatsApp booking button and a correct map pin are usually the two features that bring the most calls.
We only publish heritage details that are documented, and we avoid inflating the significance of any site. A calm, accurate page that tells a visitor how to reach a place and what to expect is more useful than decorative prose.
Local search, Maps and Hindi queries
Most people in Motihari search in Hindi or Hinglish, and many use voice search. Typical queries include a place name, such as “Chhatauni ke paas hospital”, “Motihari me coaching”, or “Raja Bazar mobile shop”. Bhojpuri phrasing appears in voice searches. Your Google Business Profile carries most of the weight for these nearby searches.
Your map listing gets the right category, fresh photographs of the counter and the frontage, festival-season hours and a simple way to request reviews after a sale. Scattered directory entries are cleaned up so the shop name, address and phone number read the same on every site. For businesses serving the wider district, we add pages for Sugauli, Chakia, Raxaul or Mehsi only if you truly serve customers there.
Our monthly SEO work starts at ₹10,000 with a report in plain language. We never promise the first position on Google. We focus on accurate pages, correct listings and content written for the way Motihari actually searches.
- Google Business Profile set-up, categories, photos and reviews
- Hindi, Hinglish and English keyword research
- Pages for nearby blocks only where you really serve
- Directory clean-up so details match
- Schema, sitemap and Search Console at launch
WhatsApp and AI automation for local businesses
Motihari businesses already live on WhatsApp, but volume is the problem. A coaching centre answers batch timings all day in admission season. A clinic repeats doctor availability. A wholesaler receives order lists as voice notes and photographs. Staff spend hours typing and copying details into registers.
We take the repetition off your staff. The questions you hear twenty times a day are answered the moment they arrive, rate lists and prospectuses go out by themselves, and each conversation is written into a Google Sheet or a small CRM with its date, number and requirement. An AI helper copes with Hindi, English and everyday Hinglish, and it steps aside for a named person whenever fees, admissions or health come up.
Such projects begin at ₹40,000 and take between two and four weeks. Before we build, we spend a few days reading how your messages actually come in, and the final word on fees, admissions or treatment is never handed to a bot.
Working across East Champaran and nearby districts
Businesses in Sugauli, Raxaul, Chakia, Mehsi, Dhaka, Kesaria and other towns of East Champaran face the same problem: customers search on phones, but there are few web developers nearby. The same is true in Bettiah, Narkatiaganj and Bagaha in West Champaran, and in Sheohar and Sitamarhi to the east.
In a block town, a compact site plus a carefully kept map listing tends to ring the phone more often than an elaborate site nobody updates. Few competitors there have bothered with search at all, so correct categories, genuine photos and a steady trickle of honest reviews can lift a shop or clinic noticeably within a few weeks.
Distance does not change our quote. A dealer in Chakia or a hotel in Raxaul is served exactly like a shop in Chhatauni, over video calls, a preview link and chat, with no travel line on the invoice.
Our remote team and how a project runs
Let us be plain: there is no BtechWaleTech counter in Chhatauni or anywhere else in Bihar, and we will never pin a fake address on Google. The team is three engineers who work from their own desks. One of us writes the front and back end of every site and app. Another of us looks after AI, machine learning, AWS and data pipelines. The third of us keeps projects on schedule and builds the automation and data science pieces.
First comes a phone or video call where you tell us who buys from you and when business peaks. Two working days later, give or take, a written page list, schedule and line-by-line quote reaches you. Once you sign off, a preview link follows quickly; you open it on your own mobile, mark what you dislike and send notes as WhatsApp messages or voice notes.
Messages get answered every day of the week on Indian time, Sundays and Chhath week included. You always know which of us is working on your project and can message that person directly.
Ownership, handover and maintenance
A common story in smaller towns: a business paid for a website, the developer kept the domain in his own name, and when he stopped answering calls the site expired. Visiting cards, hoardings and pamphlets then pointed customers to an error page, and recovering the domain took weeks.
So the domain is bought under your own name from day one, and the hosting bill comes to your email, not ours. On launch day we pass over the passwords, a copy of the code and a one-page note on how the pieces connect. If a nephew or another agency takes over later, nothing stops them and nobody charges you for leaving.
For the first two months after launch, we look after edits, bugs, patches, backups and uptime at no charge. From the third month, a plan costs from ₹8,000 a month, or you can pay only for the changes you ask for. Coaching institutes often keep a plan from March to July, when admissions run, and drop to pay-per-change afterwards.
