Is WordPress the right choice for a Saudi company website?
WordPress is a good choice when your team needs to edit pages, publish news or add projects often, in Arabic and English, and you want to own the site outright. It is less suited to a simple store that only sells inside the Kingdom, where a Saudi hosted platform may be less work.
We recommend WordPress website design in Saudi Arabia for corporate and B2B sites, contractors and engineering firms, clinics, schools, real estate developers, hospitality and professional services. These organisations publish content, need forms that route enquiries, and want search visibility in both languages. WordPress handles all of that well, and any competent developer can maintain it later, which protects you from lock-in.
It is the wrong tool if your team will never edit the site (a static build is lighter), if you need a complex application such as a booking platform with live availability (custom software fits better), or if you want a quick Saudi-only store with local payments built in (see our Salla store developer page). We will say so during the first call rather than force WordPress onto the wrong project.
WordPress website design in Saudi Arabia without plugin bloat
Plugin bloat means a site running many plugins that each add scripts, database queries and security risk. The fix is simple to state: every plugin must earn its place, and anything the theme or a few lines of code can do should not be a plugin.
On a typical lean Saudi build we use a multilingual plugin, an SEO plugin, a forms plugin, a backup tool and, for stores, WooCommerce plus the payment provider’s plugin. That is often it. Sliders, icon packs, social feeds, “all-in-one” optimisation suites and page builders are the usual sources of bloat on sites we are asked to rescue. We replace sliders with a single strong hero, social feeds with a link, and builder layouts with block patterns.
Each plugin we install is listed in the handover document with what it does, who maintains it and whether it is free or paid. That list is also your security inventory: fewer components mean fewer updates and fewer ways in. If a feature needs a plugin we do not trust, we write the small piece of code ourselves and keep it in a site-specific plugin under version control.
- Multilingual: WPML or Polylang
- SEO: one SEO plugin, configured for both languages
- Forms: one forms plugin with spam protection
- Backups: automated off-site backups
- Stores only: WooCommerce and your payment provider’s plugin
WPML or Polylang for an Arabic-English WordPress site?
Both WPML and Polylang can run a solid Arabic-English WordPress site. WPML is a paid plugin with deeper WooCommerce and string translation tools; Polylang is lighter and has a free version, which suits content sites with modest translation needs.
We pick WPML when the site includes WooCommerce with many products, complex custom fields, or a translation workflow with outside translators, because its tools for those cases are more complete. We pick Polylang for corporate and content sites where the team writes both languages in-house and wants fewer moving parts. Either way, each language gets its own URL, for example /ar/ for Arabic and /en/ for English, or Arabic at the root if most visitors are Arabic speakers.
The plugin handles hreflang tags, but we check them against Google’s localized versions guidance, which requires language codes in ISO 639-1 format and pages that reference each other in both directions. We also set an x-default where a language chooser page exists. For more on bilingual structure beyond WordPress, see our Arabic-English website page.
Setting up Arabic right-to-left properly in WordPress
WordPress switches the admin and front end to right-to-left automatically when a page is in Arabic, but only a theme written with RTL in mind makes the result look designed rather than mirrored. Most RTL problems come from the theme and plugins, not from WordPress itself.
We build or adapt themes using CSS logical properties, such as margin-inline-start instead of margin-left, so one stylesheet works in both directions without a separate RTL file full of overrides. Then we test the details that break most often: icons that imply direction (arrows, chevrons, “next” buttons), phone numbers and prices inside Arabic sentences, forms with mixed Arabic and English placeholder text, and tables that must read from the right.
Numbers need a decision too. Some Saudi organisations prefer Western digits throughout, others use Eastern Arabic digits in Arabic copy. We follow your brand guide and keep the choice consistent across content, forms and WooCommerce prices. Arabic copy itself is supplied or approved by you; we build and lay it out but do not write native Arabic text.
Arabic web fonts and Core Web Vitals on WordPress
Arabic fonts are larger files than Latin fonts because they carry more glyph shapes, so an Arabic WordPress site can be slow simply because of how fonts are loaded. Self-hosting, subsetting and limiting weights usually fixes most of the problem.
We choose one Arabic family and one Latin family, load only the weights the design uses (often regular and bold), host the files on your own server in WOFF2 format, preload the main text font and use a font-display setting that shows text immediately. That removes the calls to third-party font servers and the flash of invisible text that hurts both reading and metrics.
Google defines good Core Web Vitals on web.dev as Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of page loads. Fonts affect all three: late fonts delay the largest text block and can shift the layout when they swap in. We check the field data in Google Search Console after launch, because that reflects your real Saudi visitors on real phones.
WooCommerce with mada and Apple Pay for Saudi stores
WooCommerce can take mada, Apple Pay and card payments through the WordPress plugin of a licensed Saudi payment provider. You sign the merchant agreement with the provider; we install, configure and test the plugin.
Check three things before choosing a provider for WooCommerce: that its plugin is actively maintained for current WooCommerce versions, that it supports mada and Apple Pay on mobile checkout, and that refunds can be issued from the WooCommerce order screen. Apple Pay on the web also needs domain verification, which we handle during setup.
A Saudi WooCommerce store also needs shipping zones for Saudi cities and regions, VAT settings agreed with your accountant, invoice fields for business customers, and an e-invoicing route for ZATCA, often through an accounting integration. We keep the store lean: WooCommerce’s own features first, a small number of extensions second. For stores selling across the GCC, compare this route with our Shopify developer page, and for payment details see payment gateway integration.
WordPress security hardening for Saudi business sites
Most WordPress break-ins come through outdated plugins and themes, weak or reused passwords, and admin accounts that should not exist. Hardening closes those doors first and then adds layers.
Our baseline on every Saudi WordPress site: current WordPress, theme and plugin versions; PHP on a supported release (WordPress.org currently recommends PHP 8.3 or newer and MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.11 or newer, with HTTPS); two-factor login for every administrator; separate accounts per person with the lowest role that works; file editing disabled in the dashboard; login attempt limits; daily off-site backups with a tested restore; and a web application firewall at the host or CDN level.
Forms get spam protection and send data only where it needs to go. If the site collects personal data, the privacy page and consent choices are built in, and we keep form submissions out of the WordPress database where email or a CRM is enough. The SDAIA data protection portal is the official reference for Saudi Arabia’s Personal Data Protection Law; our build supports your obligations, and your counsel confirms compliance.
- Supported PHP and database versions, HTTPS everywhere
- Two-factor login and one account per person
- Dashboard file editing turned off
- Daily off-site backups with a tested restore
- Firewall and login rate limiting at host or CDN
Where should a Saudi WordPress site be hosted?
Host where your visitors are close and where your data rules are met. For most Saudi business sites, a quality managed host in a nearby region plus a CDN gives fast pages across the Kingdom; organisations with data residency needs may prefer hosting inside Saudi Arabia.
Latency from Riyadh or Jeddah to servers in Europe or the wider Gulf is usually acceptable when a CDN serves cached pages and images from nearby edge locations. Where you need servers in the Kingdom, cloud options exist: Google Cloud, for example, operates a Dammam region, which Saudi-based customers access through its local reseller. Some local hosting providers also offer WordPress hosting inside Saudi Arabia.
We deploy to whichever host you choose and put the account in your company’s name. The decision should consider support hours, backup policy, PHP version options, staging sites and the ability to scale during campaigns such as Ramadan offers or Riyadh Season events. If your sector has rules on where data must be stored, confirm them with your legal adviser before we migrate anything.
How much does WordPress website design cost in Saudi Arabia?
With us, a bilingual business WordPress site starts from US$150 for up to 100 pages and takes about 1–2 weeks; content-heavy SEO builds start from US$300; WooCommerce stores from US$750. Quotes are itemised in US dollars.
What pushes a WordPress quote above the starting price in Saudi projects: custom templates such as project galleries, property listings or branch pages; complex forms with routing to departments or WhatsApp; WooCommerce with many variants, payment and invoicing integrations; migration from an old site with hundreds of URLs; and the multilingual setup when content types are complex. What does not push it up: the Arabic right-to-left layout itself, which is part of every build.
Running costs are separate and paid by you: hosting, domain, premium plugin licences such as WPML if chosen, and payment fees for stores. After launch, maintenance is free for two months, then care plans start from US$120/mo. Quotes elsewhere in the Kingdom vary widely for good reasons; our website design cost page explains what drives the differences.
How to choose a WordPress website designer in Saudi Arabia
Choose a WordPress designer who can show you a fast Arabic site they built, name every plugin they plan to install, and hand the hosting and admin accounts to you. Those three things predict how the site will behave in year three.
Open their Arabic sample sites on your phone over mobile data. Do pages appear quickly? Does the menu open from the right? Do contact forms look right in Arabic? Run one page through Google PageSpeed Insights and look at the field data if the site has enough traffic. Then ask for the plugin list they would use for your site and the reason for each.
Ask who owns the hosting, domain and admin accounts; the answer should be you. Ask how updates are handled after launch, how backups are tested, and what happens if the site is hacked. Ask whether they write native Arabic copy; if not, plan who will. Good designers answer all of this in writing without hesitation.
- Fast Arabic sample sites on mobile
- Written plugin list with reasons
- Accounts in your company’s name
- Clear update, backup and incident plan
- Agreed source of Arabic copy
SEO and AI search visibility for bilingual WordPress sites
A bilingual WordPress site gets found when each language has its own indexable URLs, correct hreflang, fast pages and genuinely useful content written for how people search in that language. Technical setup is the easy half; content is the other half.
We configure one SEO plugin for both languages, with separate titles and descriptions for Arabic and English pages, clean URL slugs, XML sitemaps per language, and structured data for your organisation, services and, where relevant, products or articles. Arabic pages should target the words Saudi searchers actually type, which are often different from a direct translation of the English keyword.
AI assistants and Google’s AI Overviews quote short, clear passages. Pages that answer common questions in a few direct sentences, list services plainly and state facts like service areas and working hours are easier for them to cite accurately. Monthly SEO with us starts from US$150/mo, covered on our SEO services in Saudi Arabia page. No one can honestly promise a ranking position, so be cautious of quotes that do.
Working with a WordPress team in India from Saudi Arabia
We work remotely from India, two and a half hours ahead of Saudi time, so your whole Sunday-to-Thursday working day overlaps with ours. Calls are on video, day-to-day questions on WhatsApp, and there are no office visits or site meetings.
Over the first two weeks: after you approve the written quote, you set up or share hosting and domain access in your company’s name. Within the first days we agree the sitemap for both languages, the page templates and the plugin list. By the end of week one you see the homepage design in Arabic and English on a staging link. In week two the inner templates are built and your team starts loading content, with a short screen-share showing how the editor works.
Quotes are in US dollars and paid in milestones by Wise, bank wire or PayPal; nothing is billed before your written approval. Invoices come from India, and your accountant can advise on how payments to a non-resident provider are treated. Terms are on our terms page.
WordPress maintenance for Saudi sites: what it covers
WordPress needs regular care: core, theme and plugin updates, backups, security checks and small content changes. A site left alone for a year is the most common hacking target we see.
For two months after launch, maintenance is free. After that, care plans start from US$120/mo and are quoted in USD. A typical plan covers scheduled updates tested on a staging copy before going live, daily off-site backups with a monthly restore test, uptime monitoring, a monthly check of Core Web Vitals in Search Console, and a set number of small edits in either language.
Plans also include a yearly plugin review: we remove anything no longer needed, replace abandoned plugins, and check that the PHP version on your host is still supported. Larger changes, such as a new section or a WooCommerce extension, are quoted in writing before work begins.
Worked example: a bilingual WordPress site for a Dammam engineering contractor
This is a hypothetical example. Say a mid-sized MEP contractor in Dammam wants a WordPress website that presents its projects to Saudi and international clients, accepts tender enquiries and lists job openings, in Arabic and English.
The build would use a lightweight block theme with CSS logical properties, Polylang because the contractor’s team writes both languages and the site has no store, and three custom post types: projects (with sector, city, client type and photos), services and vacancies. The Arabic version sits at the root because most visitors are Saudi; English lives under /en/. Tender enquiries go by email to the bids team, with a WhatsApp button on mobile.
The plugin list stays short: Polylang, an SEO plugin, a forms plugin, backups and a security plugin configured at the host. Fonts are self-hosted and subset. Hosting is a managed WordPress plan with a CDN, in the contractor’s own account. That scope fits our US$150 starting plan, with the project gallery templates as the main itemised addition, then two months of free maintenance.
WordPress website design checklist for Saudi businesses
Use this list to brief any WordPress designer, or to check a site you already have. Each point is something we test before launch.
- Arabic and English on separate URLs with correct hreflang
- Theme tested right-to-left on iPhone and Android
- Plugin list short and written down, with reasons
- Arabic and Latin fonts self-hosted, subset and preloaded
- Core Web Vitals checked in PageSpeed Insights and later in Search Console
- Two-factor login, one account per person, backups tested
- Privacy page and consent choices in both languages
- Hosting, domain and admin accounts in your company’s name
- WooCommerce: mada and Apple Pay tested, refunds from the order screen
If your project is more application than website, such as bookings with live availability or a customer portal, compare it with custom software development. For apps, see app development cost in Saudi Arabia.
