When does an Ahmedabad business website need a redesign?
Redesign when the site actively costs you enquiries: it looks dated beside competitors, breaks on phones, loads slowly, or cannot be updated without calling someone who no longer answers.
In Ahmedabad, as in most of Gujarat, we see a few recurring patterns. Factory websites in Naroda, Odhav and Vatva built ten or more years ago, with Flash-era layouts converted badly, product lists as PDF downloads and contact forms that silently fail. Retail and clinic sites around Satellite and Navrangpura stuck on an old WordPress theme that no longer receives updates. Builders whose project pages have multiplied into a maze. Coaching classes whose site was made for desktop, while almost every parent now opens it on a phone.
Other triggers are business changes: a new product line, export ambitions that need English pages written for overseas buyers, a second location, or the decision to add Gujarati pages for local customers. A brand refresh with a new logo is also a natural moment.
If the site is merely unattractive but brings steady enquiries, move carefully. That traffic is an asset, and a website redesign in Ahmedabad should protect it first and improve it second.
Why do redesigns lose Google rankings?
Most ranking losses after a redesign come from four mistakes, and all of them are avoidable with planning.
- Changed URLs without redirects. Google and every saved link hit error pages, and the authority those pages built is thrown away.
- Deleted content. A page that answered a search well is removed because it “looked old”, and the ranking leaves with it.
- Lost titles and headings. New templates replace carefully worded titles with generic ones like “Products”.
- Blocked crawling. The staging site's noindex setting or robots rule is copied to the live site by mistake.
Smaller causes include slower pages from heavy new design, internal links that still point at old addresses, and sitemaps that list URLs which no longer exist. Google's own guidance on site moves with URL changes describes the redirect approach, and recommends keeping redirects in place for a long time, generally at least a year. We keep them permanently unless there is a reason not to.
The audit we run before any website redesign in Ahmedabad
Before any design work, we build a complete list of what the current site contains and what each page is worth. That list becomes the backbone of the whole project.
We crawl the site to capture every URL, title, heading and status code. We combine that with your XML sitemap and, with your permission, Search Console data showing which pages earn impressions and clicks and for which searches. If you use analytics, we add visits and enquiry pages. We also check which pages have links from other websites, such as trade directories, supplier lists, news mentions or partner sites, because those links lose value if their target vanishes.
The result is a spreadsheet you can read: each URL with its traffic, top searches, backlinks and a recommended action. Typical actions are keep as is, keep and improve, merge into another page, or retire with a redirect. You approve the actions before design starts, so the new structure is built around the pages that matter.
If you do not have Search Console access, we help you verify the site first. Even a few weeks of data is better than guessing.
How should 301 redirects be planned during a redesign?
Every old URL that has traffic, backlinks or a place in Google's index should redirect permanently, with a 301, to the single most relevant new page. Redirecting everything to the home page is a shortcut that wastes most of the value.
We build the redirect map as part of the audit spreadsheet: old URL in one column, new URL in the next, with the reason for each pairing. A product page moves to the matching new product page; two thin pages merged into one both point to the merged page; a retired page points to its nearest parent category. Query-string URLs, uppercase variants and old file extensions like .php or .html get their own rules.
Redirects are implemented on the server or platform, tested in bulk on staging with a script that checks every pair returns a single 301 hop to a working page, and tested again after launch. Chains of several redirects are flattened, because each extra hop slows crawling and loses a little reliability.
If the domain itself is changing, Search Console's Change of Address tool is used after redirects are live. Our guide to changing domains without losing SEO covers that case.
Keep, merge or rewrite: deciding what content survives
Content that earns traffic stays and gets better; content that earns nothing and helps nobody goes. The decision is made page by page with you, not by a designer's preference for fewer pages.
Pages that rank well keep their core text, title intent and heading structure, refreshed only where facts are outdated. Pages competing with each other for the same search, which happens often on older Ahmedabad sites with near-duplicate city or product pages, are merged into one stronger page. Pages with real buyer value but weak writing are rewritten. Empty pages, outdated news and test pages are retired with redirects.
A redesign is also the right time to add what buyers now search for: specification tables, application pages, FAQs, project details or price guidance. For manufacturers, that might mean separate pages for each product family; for clinics, one page per treatment. New text is drafted in English or Hindi by the BtechWaleTech team if you want, and approved by you before it goes live.
What changes in the design itself?
The design is rebuilt for phones first, with clearer navigation, faster pages and obvious next steps such as a WhatsApp button, call link or enquiry form on every page.
We keep what your customers recognise, such as logo, colours and familiar section names, while fixing what drives them away. Typical improvements on older Ahmedabad sites include replacing auto-rotating sliders with one clear message, turning product PDFs into readable pages, making phone numbers tappable, adding real photos of your premises and team in place of stock images, and simplifying menus that grew one item at a time over the years.
Designs are shown on a private staging link that you open on your own phone, wherever you are. You compare old and new side by side on screen-share, and we adjust before building inner pages. Accessibility basics, such as readable contrast, proper headings and form labels, are part of the job rather than extras. Our website designer in Ahmedabad page goes deeper on the design side.
Change the platform only if the current one is holding you back. A redesign is a good moment to move, but every platform change adds migration lines to the quote.
Reasons to move include an old custom PHP system nobody can maintain, a Joomla or Drupal install that is far behind on updates, a website-builder site you cannot export or speed up, or a WordPress site so tangled with plugins that a clean rebuild is cheaper than repair. Common destinations are a static site for rarely changed brochure content, a fresh WordPress install for teams that publish often, Shopify for product-led stores, and Next.js for sites mixing content with app features.
During a platform move, the URL structure often changes because each platform formats addresses differently. That makes the redirect map even more important. We also export blog posts, images and form submissions where the old platform allows. The Wix to WordPress migration and WordPress to Next.js migration guides cover two of the most common moves.
Will my email stop working when the website is redesigned?
It should not, provided the person changing DNS knows which records belong to email. Broken email after a website launch is one of the most common and most avoidable redesign problems.
Before launch we record every DNS record on your domain: MX records that route mail, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records that protect it, and any verification records for Google, Microsoft or other tools. When the website moves to new hosting, only the records that point to the website change. If your email is hosted on the same old server as the website, we plan a separate email move first, so your inbox is safe before the website switches.
We schedule the DNS change at a quiet hour, usually late evening or a Sunday for Ahmedabad and Gujarat visitors, and test sending and receiving immediately afterwards. You also get a copy of the full record list for your files. If emails were already landing in spam before the redesign, our emails going to spam guide explains the fixes.
Adding Gujarati pages during a redesign
A redesign is the cheapest moment to add a Gujarati version, because templates, navigation and URL structure are being planned anyway.
We give each language its own URLs, usually under a folder such as /gu/, add hreflang tags so Google pairs each Gujarati page with its English twin, and place a language switcher in the header. Gujarati text is stored as Unicode and shown in a web font designed for the script, such as Noto Sans Gujarati or Mukta Vaani from Google Fonts, tested for line height on small screens.
The BtechWaleTech team writes in English and Hindi, not Gujarati. You or your translator supply the Gujarati copy, or approve your translator's drafts, and we build and format it. Many Ahmedabad businesses start with Gujarati versions of the home, services and contact pages and add more later. If your old site had Gujarati text as images, we replace them with real text so it can be searched and read aloud by phones.
What happens on launch day and in the weeks after?
Launch day is a checklist, not a leap of faith. The weeks after are monitoring, because problems that slip through usually show up in Search Console within days.
- Full backup of the old site and its database, kept safely
- Redirects deployed and tested in bulk against the map
- Noindex and staging password removed; robots.txt checked
- New XML sitemap submitted in Search Console
- Forms, WhatsApp buttons and call links tested on real phones
- Email sent and received after DNS changes
- Analytics and conversion tracking confirmed
For two months afterwards, care is free. We watch Search Console for spikes in 404 errors, crawl issues and drops in impressions on key pages, and fix anything that appears. Some movement in rankings during the first weeks is normal while Google processes redirects; steady, unexplained drops on important pages are what we investigate. Nobody can guarantee rankings after a redesign, but a mapped and monitored launch removes the usual causes of loss.
How much does a website redesign in Ahmedabad cost?
With us, a redesign of a business site starts at ₹10,000, a large SEO site at ₹20,000 and an online store at ₹50,000. The migration work is added as its own lines, so you see exactly what protection your traffic gets.
Four things move the figure. Page count, because every URL needs an action and many need redirects. Platform change, because exporting content and rebuilding templates takes longer than restyling. Content work, if pages need rewriting or merging. New features, such as booking, catalogues or a Gujarati version.
What should not change much is the design style itself. A redesign that charges heavily for visuals but lists no audit or redirect work is the one most likely to cost you traffic later. Hosting and domain remain yours and are paid by you directly. National benchmarks sit on our website redesign cost in India page, and every Ahmedabad build type appears in the Ahmedabad cost guide.
How long does a redesign take, and how does it run remotely?
A business site of modest size usually takes two to three weeks from approved scope to launch; large sites and platform migrations take four to five weeks or more. The audit adds a few days at the start and saves weeks of repair later.
Everything runs remotely from India. You share access to the current site, hosting and Search Console, or add us as users. We run the audit and send findings with an itemised quote in about two working days. After approval, the new design appears on staging, followed by inner pages, content changes and the redirect map. You review on your own phone and on screen-share calls, sending one combined list of changes per round. Launch happens at a quiet hour you choose, and monitoring begins straight away.
The main cause of delay is approvals on content decisions, especially on sites with hundreds of pages. A single decision-maker for the keep, merge and retire list keeps the project moving.
A worked example: redesigning an engineering exporter's site in Odhav
This scenario is hypothetical and exists only to show the steps. It is not a client story, and no results are implied.
Imagine a valve and fittings manufacturer in Odhav with a website built over a decade ago on custom PHP. It has about 140 URLs, including product pages with .php addresses, a dozen near-duplicate “valves supplier in [city]” pages, catalogue PDFs and a news section last updated years back. Enquiries still arrive from overseas buyers searching specific valve types.
The audit would show which product pages earn impressions and which directory listings link to deep pages. The plan might keep and improve every product page, merge the city pages into one export page plus a few genuinely useful regional pages, convert PDF specs into readable tables with downloadable sheets, and retire the old news. The new site might be static, with clean URLs, and every old .php address would redirect to its matching new page.
The quote would separate audit and redirect mapping, design and build, product content conversion and an optional Gujarati contact page for local suppliers. After launch, Search Console would be watched for two months. Related guides: manufacturer website design in Gujarat and export business websites.
Red flags when hiring someone for a website redesign in Ahmedabad
The biggest red flag is a redesign quote with no mention of URLs or redirects. It suggests the developer sees the job as design only, and your search traffic is the part left to chance.
- No audit of existing pages, traffic or backlinks before design
- “We will redirect everything to the home page”
- Plans to switch DNS without listing your email records
- Staging sites left open to Google, creating duplicate content
- Promises that rankings will rise or be guaranteed after launch
- Old site deleted immediately with no backup kept
- Domain or new hosting registered in the developer's name
A careful developer welcomes questions about these points and answers them in writing. If you are weighing freelancers against an agency for the job, our page on choosing a freelance web developer in Ahmedabad may help, and website redesign freelancer explains the national picture.
Ownership, ongoing care and redesigns beyond Ahmedabad
When the redesign is done, everything is yours: the domain, the hosting account, the code repository and the audit spreadsheet with its redirect map, which is worth keeping for any future change. You also receive logins, DNS records and a short editing guide.
Care is free for two months after launch and includes the post-launch monitoring. From the third month it is optional, starting at ₹8,000/mo a month, covering updates, backups, edits and periodic redirect and 404 checks. Our website maintenance in Ahmedabad page lists what that includes.
Because the work is remote, firms in Gandhinagar, Sanand, Changodar, Kalol or anywhere in Gujarat get the same process. Surat businesses can read our website redesign in Surat page, and the statewide approach is on website redesign across Gujarat. For other IT services in the city, see the Ahmedabad services page.
