What is a Shopify store setup service, exactly?
A Shopify store setup service is paid help to configure every part of a new Shopify store so that a customer can find a product, pay, and receive it, without you learning each setting first. It is configuration and content work more than coding.
Shopify gives you the engine: hosting, checkout, an admin and a theme library. It does not choose your shipping rates, decide whether COD is allowed above a certain order value, write your refund policy or photograph your products. A setup service makes those decisions with you and enters them correctly.
The line between “setup” and “development” matters for the budget. Setup uses what Shopify and its apps already offer. Development writes new code: custom Liquid sections, checkout logic or integrations. Many stores need only setup at launch and add development later, once real orders show where the gaps are.
Setup
Theme configuration, products, payments, shipping, taxes, pages, domains, apps from the App Store and testing.
Who should pay for a Shopify store setup service, and who can skip it?
Pay for a Shopify store setup service if your time is worth more than the fee, your catalogue has variants or many products, or you need COD, GST and courier rules right from the first order. Skip it if you sell a handful of items with simple delivery and enjoy learning the admin.
The owners who gain most are the ones moving from Instagram or WhatsApp selling to a proper store, boutique brands with size and colour variants, manufacturers selling direct for the first time, and anyone who tried the free trial, got stuck at payments, and lost a month.
A middle path works too. Some owners upload products themselves and hire help only for payments, shipping, legal pages and a final audit. Tell us which parts you want to do; the quote is line-by-line so removing items is easy.
- More than 30 products or many variants per product
- Cash on delivery with limits or pincode restrictions
- Weight-based courier rates across India
- A launch date tied to a festival sale or an ad campaign
- No time to learn Shopify settings while running the business
The Shopify store setup sequence, step by step
The order of work matters because some settings depend on others: shipping needs product weights, taxes need HSN data, and payments need legal pages before a provider approves your site. Here is the sequence we follow.
- Accounts: Shopify store, domain and email created in your name
- Store settings: business name, address, currency, units, order ID format, staff access
- Theme: chosen, installed, branded and laid out for your catalogue
- Products: imported by CSV, with variants, weights, SKUs and images checked
- Collections and navigation: menus, filters and search that match how buyers shop
- Legal and trust pages: refund, shipping, privacy, terms, contact, about
- Payments: provider connected, UPI and cards tested, COD rules set
- Shipping: zones, rates, courier app, packaging dimensions
- Taxes and invoices: GST settings and invoice app with GSTIN
- Tracking and SEO: Search Console, analytics, pixel, titles and descriptions
- Launch test: real order, refund, notification emails, mobile checks
Doing legal pages before payments is not bureaucracy. Payment providers review the website during onboarding, and a store without a refund policy and contact details is a common reason for delay.
Choosing and setting up the Shopify theme
Pick a theme for your catalogue shape, not for the demo photos. A brand with 12 hero products needs a very different layout from a store with 2,000 SKUs and heavy filtering.
Shopify's free themes, such as Dawn and its siblings, are fast and maintained by Shopify. Paid themes add features like mega menus, lookbooks and advanced filtering. We start with the free option and suggest a paid one only when a specific feature is missing, because every extra feature adds page weight.
Setup means more than uploading a logo. We decide the home page order (offer banner, bestsellers, categories, trust points, reviews), design product page sections for size charts and delivery estimates, set the mobile menu and search, and check each template on a mid-range Android phone over mobile data. Anything beyond theme settings, such as a new section type, moves into theme customisation and is quoted as its own line.
Product and collection upload: the part that decides your launch date
Product upload is usually the longest step in any Shopify store setup service, and it depends on you more than on us. Ready photos and a clean spreadsheet can cut the timeline by weeks.
We send a product sheet template with the columns Shopify needs: title, description, vendor, product type, tags, options (size, colour, material), price, compare-at price, SKU, barcode, weight, stock count and image file names. You fill it; we tidy it, write missing descriptions if that line is in the quote, and import by CSV.
After import we check by hand: every variant shows the right image, weights are sensible (a 50-gram weight on a 2-kg item ruins shipping rates), and collections are built on rules such as tags or product type so new items fall into place automatically.
What speeds it up
Square photos on a plain background, consistent file names, one spreadsheet per category, sizes written the same way everywhere.
What slows it down
Photos sent in WhatsApp chats, prices that change during setup, missing weights and variants described differently on each product.
How do you set up UPI, cards and COD on a Shopify store in India?
On an Indian Shopify store, you sign up with a third-party payment provider, complete its KYC, and connect it from Shopify's payment settings; cash on delivery is added as a manual payment method. Shopify Payments is not available in India, so the third-party route is the norm.
The KYC part is yours because it involves your PAN, bank account and business documents. We prepare the store so it passes the provider's website review (policy pages, contact details, clear pricing), then connect the provider, place a small live UPI payment and a card payment, and refund both to confirm money flows both ways.
One cost to know: Shopify's India pricing page lists a transaction fee on third-party payment providers that falls as your plan rises (2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced), on top of what the provider charges. That affects which plan makes sense as sales grow; the numbers are worked through on Shopify store cost in India.
COD rules we set
Minimum and maximum order values for COD, blocked pincodes, and a note at checkout. Finer rules, such as hiding COD for certain products, need an app.
Payment failures
We check that a failed UPI payment leaves an abandoned checkout you can follow up, not a lost buyer.
Shipping setup: zones, rates and courier apps
Shipping on Shopify has two halves: the rates buyers see at checkout, and how you book and track parcels after the order. A setup service should configure both.
For rates, we create zones (your state, metro cities, rest of India, remote areas if you treat them differently), then weight-based or order-value-based rates, plus a free-shipping threshold if you use one. The rates come from your own courier costs, which we ask for, not guesses.
For fulfilment, most Indian sellers connect a courier aggregator app, such as Shiprocket, from the Shopify App Store, with the account in the seller's name. Orders flow into it, you choose a courier, print labels, and tracking numbers flow back to Shopify so the customer gets an update. We set default package sizes, pickup address and the return address, then book one test shipment with you.
If your parcels are bulky or fragile, tell us early. Volumetric weight can make a light pillow cost more to ship than a heavy book, and rates must reflect that.
GST settings and the policy pages every Shopify store needs
A Shopify store selling in India needs GST configured the way your accountant advises and a set of clear policy pages. We configure; your chartered accountant decides the tax treatment.
On the GST side we set whether prices include tax, enter the rate per product group, store HSN codes in product metafields and set up an invoice app so each order produces a GST invoice with your GSTIN, the buyer's state and the correct tax split. Registration questions, thresholds and rates are for your CA, not for us.
On the legal side, Shopify can generate template policies, but templates rarely match how you actually handle returns. We write refund and returns, shipping, privacy and terms pages from your real process (return window, who pays return shipping, how refunds are paid), and put your business name, address, email and phone on the contact page. India's consumer protection rules for e-commerce also expect sellers to show return, refund and delivery terms and a way to raise grievances, so these pages do legal as well as trust work. A lawyer should review them if your business carries any risk.
How long does a Shopify store setup take?
Our Shopify store setup service usually takes 4–8 weeks from approved quote to launch. A small catalogue with ready photos lands near four weeks; a large catalogue, custom sections or slow KYC push it toward eight.
The first week goes into accounts, the theme and the product sheet. Weeks two and three carry product import, collections, pages and the theme build. Payments and shipping follow once the pages exist and the provider's KYC is through. The final week is testing, fixes and launch.
The honest bottleneck is almost always content and approvals: photos, final prices, the returns policy decision, KYC documents. Send them together and early, choose one person to approve, and the store will go live sooner. Our week-by-week table below shows where each dependency lands.

How much does a Shopify store setup service cost in India?
With us, a Shopify store setup service starts at ₹50,000 (US$750 for overseas sellers). Separately, you pay Shopify for your plan, and you pay for any paid theme or app you choose.
What raises a setup quote: more products and variants to import, product descriptions written by us, custom sections beyond the theme, a bilingual store, integrations with accounting or WhatsApp, and migrating data from an older store. What lowers it: a free theme, your own product sheet, and fewer apps.
Quotes from other sellers of this service vary widely. The gap usually hides scope: one quote includes payments, shipping rules, legal pages and a test order, another stops at “theme installed and 20 products uploaded”. Ask every bidder to list what they will test before launch. That single question separates a setup from a template swap.
Shopify store launch checklist: what we test before going live
Every Shopify store setup ends with a checklist, run on real devices, before the password page comes down. These are the checks we sign off with you.
- A real UPI order placed, paid, fulfilled and refunded
- A COD order placed and cancelled, with the right emails sent
- Shipping rates correct for three pincodes: local, metro and remote
- Tax lines and invoice correct on a sample order, checked by your accountant
- Order confirmation, shipping and delivery emails branded and readable
- Every product page opened on a budget Android phone over mobile data
- Search and filters return sensible results for common queries
- Refund, shipping, privacy, terms and contact pages linked in the footer
- Domain connected, SSL active, and the old myshopify address redirecting
- Search Console verified, sitemap submitted, analytics recording the test order
Whose name should the Shopify store be in?
Yours, from the first minute. The Shopify account, the domain, the payment provider account and the courier account should all be created with your email and paid from your card.
We ask you to start the Shopify trial yourself, or we do it together on a call, and then you add us as collaborators or staff with limited permissions. Collaborator access lets us work without your password and can be removed by you at any time.
This matters later. If the store sits in a setup seller's account, transferring ownership needs their cooperation, and a store with orders cannot simply be recreated. At handover you get a short document: which apps are installed and what each costs, where the courier and payment settings live, how to add a product, and how to process a return.
Which apps does a new Shopify store really need?
Fewer than most owners think. A new store usually needs an invoice app, a courier app, a reviews app and maybe a WhatsApp chat button; everything else can wait for real order data.
Each app adds a monthly cost and often a script that slows the storefront. We install only what the launch needs and write down the reason for each one. Popular add-ons such as upsell pop-ups, spin wheels or countdown timers can come later if your numbers show a need; many stores never add them.
When an app keeps failing to do what you need, the next step is a small custom build, covered on Shopify app development. When the store grows slow from app clutter, speed optimisation is the fix.
SEO and AI-search basics built into the store setup
Shopify handles hosting and sitemaps, but it cannot write your titles or decide your collection structure. A setup service should cover the basics so the store is readable by Google and by AI search tools from day one.
We set unique titles and meta descriptions for the home page, collections and top products, keep product handles short and clean, add alt text to images, write a short introduction on each main collection, and verify Google Search Console with the sitemap submitted. Product structured data comes from the theme, and we check it with Google's Rich Results Test.
This is groundwork, not a ranking promise. Nobody can guarantee where a new store will rank. Ongoing growth comes from content, collection pages and links over months, which is what our Shopify SEO work covers from ₹10,000/mo.
A worked example: setting up a chikankari brand's first Shopify store
This is a hypothetical scenario to show how the setup plays out. Say a family chikankari business in Lucknow has sold kurtas on Instagram for three years and takes orders by direct message. They have about 120 designs, each in five sizes and three colours, and want a store before the festive season.
We would open the Shopify account together, choose a free theme with good variant swatches, and send the product sheet. The family photographs pieces against one wall for consistency. We import products with sizes and colours as options, add a size chart section, and build collections by fabric, occasion and price.
Payments go live after their provider's KYC; COD is allowed up to a limit they set. Shipping uses two zones and weight-based rates, with a courier app in their name. We write the returns page from their real process (exchange for size within a set number of days, no returns on altered pieces), set up the invoice app with their GSTIN, run the launch checklist and hand over a one-page guide. Starting price: ₹50,000, with a line for writing product descriptions if they want it.
Shopify store setup service across India
All our setup work is remote. We meet on video calls, share the store's preview link, and send progress on WhatsApp, so sellers in Lucknow, Varanasi or Agra get the same process as brands in metros.
Sellers we hear from often include leather footwear makers in Kanpur, sports goods units in Jalandhar and Meerut, furniture workshops in Jodhpur, home textile weavers in Karur and tea estates around Siliguri and Guwahati.
Payment in India is by UPI or bank transfer against the itemised quote; overseas sellers pay in USD by Wise, bank wire or PayPal.
