When does a Dubai business actually need a website redesign?
You need a redesign when the site is costing you enquiries: visitors leave on phones, pages take too long to appear, the offer on the page no longer matches what you sell, or buyers who read Arabic have nothing to read. Looking old is a weaker reason on its own, although it usually travels with the others.
Many UAE business sites were built five or more years ago for desktop screens, then patched. Menus break on small phones, contact forms send to an inbox nobody checks, and analytics stopped recording years ago. Google's own help pages confirm that standard Universal Analytics properties stopped processing data on 1 July 2023, so if your site still carries only the old tag, you have no current traffic data at all.
A useful test is to open your own site on a mid-range Android phone over mobile data, then try to send an enquiry. If that takes more than a minute or two of patience, a redesign will pay for itself in recovered leads long before the visual improvements matter.
- Most visits come from phones, but the layout was built for desktop
- Form, call or WhatsApp enquiries have dropped without an obvious market reason
- Your services, prices or brand have changed and the pages never caught up
- No Arabic version, yet a share of your buyers prefer Arabic
- Editing a page needs a developer every time
Redesign vs rebuild: which does your Dubai website need?
A redesign changes the look, layout and content structure while keeping the platform; a rebuild replaces the platform underneath. Choose a redesign when the CMS still works and your team can edit it. Choose a rebuild when the platform itself is the problem: unsupported, insecure, painfully slow, or impossible to extend.
In practice most projects we quote sit in between. A WordPress site with a heavy page builder may keep WordPress but lose the builder. A custom PHP site from a developer who has moved on usually needs a full rebuild, because nobody can safely update it. A site on a hosted builder may be fine to redesign in place if the builder supports clean URLs and redirects.
The decision changes the budget more than anything else, so we make it early and in writing. Whichever route you pick, the SEO protection steps are the same: inventory, redirect map, tracking, baseline. The platform choice only changes how much code we write.
Redesign in place
Same CMS, new templates, reorganised content. Faster and cheaper; right when the platform is healthy.
Rebuild
New CMS or framework, content migrated across. More work; right when the old platform blocks speed, security or editing.
Refresh only
New colours, fonts and images on the existing templates. Cheap, but rarely fixes speed, mobile or conversion problems.
Why the URL and content inventory comes before any design
The inventory is a complete list of what your current site contains and what each piece earns, and it is the single step that protects rankings during website redesign services in Dubai. Without it, nobody knows which pages matter until traffic disappears.
We build the list from four sources: a crawl of the live site, the XML sitemap, your CMS export and the Pages report in Google Search Console. Crawls miss orphan pages that nothing links to; Search Console reveals pages Google still visits that the crawl never found. Old PDF brochures and image URLs often turn up here, and some of them carry backlinks from trade directories or news sites.
For each row we record organic clicks over the last twelve months, sessions, conversions where tracking exists, inbound links and the main query the page ranks for. Then you and we give every row one of four decisions. Keep it as it is. Merge it into a stronger page. Rewrite it in place. Or retire it deliberately.
Google's site-move documentation recommends exactly this: build a mapping of old to new URLs using sitemaps, server logs and analytics. Our job is to do it thoroughly enough that nothing valuable slips through.
- Crawl of every internal link and asset
- XML sitemap and CMS page export
- Search Console performance per page, twelve months
- Backlink list for pages other sites cite
- Decision column: keep, merge, rewrite, retire
How does 301 redirect mapping protect SEO in a website redesign?
A 301 is a permanent redirect: it tells browsers and search engines that a page has moved to a new address, so visitors and most of the page's search signals follow. Google's guidance on site moves with URL changes recommends server-side permanent redirects such as 301 or 308, and says to keep them for as long as possible, generally at least a year.
Mapping means pairing each old URL with the most relevant new one, not sending everything to the home page. A page about “office fit-out in JLT” should redirect to the new fit-out service page, ideally one that still mentions JLT, not to a generic services list. Mass redirects to the home page are treated much like missing pages, and the visitor lands somewhere unhelpful.
We write the map as a spreadsheet you can read, implement it at the server or CMS level, and test every line on staging before launch. On launch day we crawl the old URL list against the live site and fix anything that returns an error or chains through several hops.
Keep redirects even after traffic settles. Old links in emails, WhatsApp chats and printed brochures keep arriving for years.
Which pages should a website redesign in Dubai leave alone?
Leave alone, or change very carefully, any page that brings steady organic clicks or enquiries. That usually means a handful of service pages, a few blog posts that answer specific questions, and sometimes an old news item that earned a strong link.
For those pages we keep the URL where possible, keep the main heading's meaning, and keep the core content that answers the query. We can improve layout, speed, images and calls to action around it. What we avoid is cutting a 1,200-word guide down to three lines because the new design “looks cleaner”; that is how redesigns lose rankings they took years to earn.
Titles and meta descriptions are copied over from the inventory rather than regenerated. Internal links pointing at top pages are kept, because they tell search engines which pages you consider important. If the new navigation drops a top page from the menu, we add links to it from related pages instead.
Everything else is open for improvement. Thin pages that never ranked can be merged, rewritten or retired, which often lifts the site overall because search engines see fewer weak pages.
Adding an Arabic version during a website redesign in Dubai
A redesign is the cheapest moment to add Arabic, because templates, navigation and URL structure are being built anyway. Adding it later means reworking every template for right-to-left layout a second time.
Arabic should be a real version of the site with its own URLs, for example under /ar/, not a translation widget over English pages. Google's documentation on localised versions says each language version must list itself and every other version in its hreflang annotations, and the links must point both ways or they may be ignored. We generate these tags automatically from the page pairs, so a missing translation never creates a broken reference.
Right-to-left affects more than text direction. Menus, breadcrumbs, sliders, icons with arrows, form field order and tables all mirror. Mixed content, such as English product codes inside Arabic sentences, needs care so numbers and Latin words display in the right order. Arabic fonts need testing at small sizes on phones.
Our team writes English, so the Arabic copy comes from you or a translator you choose; we set up the workflow so each page shows whether its translation is approved. More detail on layout is in our Arabic website design guide.
Benchmarking conversions before and after a website redesign
Record your enquiry numbers for at least four weeks before launch, using the same definitions you will use afterwards, then compare like with like. Without a baseline, a redesign is judged on whether people like the colours.
We define the conversions with you first. For most UAE service businesses that means contact form submissions, taps on phone numbers, taps on WhatsApp buttons, quote requests and brochure downloads. Each becomes a GA4 event on the old site if it is not tracked already, so the baseline is real.
After launch we compare the same weeks of the month, because many Dubai businesses see predictable swings around month end, school holidays, summer and Ramadan. We also separate organic from paid and direct traffic, so a campaign that ended the week you launched does not make the redesign look bad, or good.
The benchmark table below shows what we record. If a number falls, the inventory and redirect map let us trace which pages lost visits and why, rather than guessing.
- Organic clicks and impressions from Search Console
- Form submissions, phone taps and WhatsApp taps from GA4 events
- Conversion rate by device type
- Top landing pages and their bounce behaviour
- Core Web Vitals field data where enough traffic exists
How much do website redesign services in Dubai cost?
Quotes for website redesign services in Dubai vary widely because two redesigns can differ by a factor of ten in URLs, languages, content work and integrations. Put the same inventory in front of every provider and you will get comparable quotes.
Our starting points: a redesign of up to 100 pages from US$150; a content-heavy site of 299 or more pages from US$300; a store redesign from US$750; portals and custom tools from US$900. These factors push any provider's figure up:
- Number of URLs needing individual redirect decisions
- Adding an Arabic version, and how many pages it covers
- Copywriting or restructuring, versus reusing existing text
- Moving to a different CMS or framework
- Forms, booking tools, CRM or WhatsApp integrations
- Store data such as products, variants and customer accounts
- Custom illustrations, photography or video you do not already have
We quote in USD and itemise the inventory and redirect work separately, so you can see what you pay for protection versus design. The website development cost guide for Dubai puts these numbers alongside new builds.
How long does a website redesign take?
A redesign of up to 100 pages usually takes one to two weeks of build time once content and decisions are ready; larger sites take three to five weeks. Waiting for copy, translations and approvals often takes longer than the build itself.
The sequence matters more than the total. Inventory and baseline tracking go first, because the baseline needs time to collect. Design and templates follow. Content migration and redirects come next, then Arabic pages if included, then a staging review, then launch. We do not launch on a Thursday afternoon before a UAE weekend, or the day before a public holiday, because problems would sit unwatched.
If you have a hard date, such as a new product launch or an exhibition like GITEX, tell us at the start. We plan backwards from it and cut optional extras rather than skipping redirects.
Choosing the platform for a redesigned UAE website
Pick the platform your team will actually edit. For marketing sites we often use a fast framework such as Astro with a headless CMS; for teams already comfortable with WordPress, a lean WordPress theme without heavy page builders works well; stores may stay on WooCommerce or Shopify if they suit the catalogue.
What matters for the redesign is that the platform supports clean URLs, server-side redirects, per-page titles and descriptions, hreflang, and structured data. Some hosted builders make one or more of these awkward. We check before recommending, and we tell you if your current platform can do the job so you avoid an unnecessary migration.
Hosting goes in your own account, with backups and a content delivery network so pages load quickly for visitors across the Gulf and further afield. Another of us handles cloud set-up and monitoring. If your business later needs a portal or app, a clean content structure now makes that easier; see web application development in Dubai.
Speed, mobile layout and Core Web Vitals in a redesign
A redesign should make the site faster, not slower. Web.dev's published targets for Core Web Vitals are a Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of page loads.
New designs often arrive with large hero videos, animated counters and several web fonts. Each looks good in a presentation and costs time on a phone. We design the first screen to load with minimal weight, serve images in modern formats at the right size, and load chat widgets and maps only when a visitor needs them.
Mobile layout is designed first, then expanded for desktop. Phone numbers and WhatsApp buttons stay reachable with a thumb. Forms ask for fewer fields. These choices usually do more for enquiry numbers than any colour palette.
SEO and AI search visibility after website redesign services in Dubai
The redesign should leave you easier to find than before: clearer headings, pages that answer one question each, structured data describing your business, and internal links that connect related services. Protecting rankings is the floor, not the goal.
After launch we submit the new sitemap in Search Console, watch the Pages report for errors, and check that the old URLs Google knows about are being redirected. Google's site-move guidance notes that medium-sized sites can take weeks to settle, so we monitor through that period rather than declaring victory on day one.
AI answer tools, including Google's AI Overviews and chat assistants, pull short passages from pages that state facts plainly. A redesign is a good time to add concise answer paragraphs near the top of service pages, clear pricing language and FAQ sections. We cannot promise any tool will cite you, and nobody can guarantee rankings, but clearer pages give them more to work with.
If you want ongoing work afterwards, monthly SEO starts from US$150/mo. Our page on technical SEO services in Dubai explains what that covers.
What are the biggest risks in a website redesign?
The biggest risks are lost URLs, lost tracking and lost content. Each one is quiet at launch and expensive a month later, when someone notices enquiries have fallen and nobody can say why.
Warning signs when choosing a provider for website redesign services in Dubai:
- No mention of redirects, or a plan to send every old page to the home page
- No crawl or inventory of the current site before design starts
- Staging site blocked from review until the very end
- Domain, hosting or CMS registered in the provider's name
- Analytics tags removed and “set up later”
- Arabic handled by an automatic translation plug-in
- Promises of first-page rankings after the redesign
Also watch for the staging site being indexed by search engines before launch, which creates duplicate content. We protect staging with a password so it never appears in results.
How a remote redesign team in India works with Dubai clients
India is 1.5 hours ahead of the UAE, so a 10 a.m. call in Dubai is 11:30 a.m. for us and almost the whole working week overlaps. Most communication happens on WhatsApp, with short video calls at decision points and a shared staging link you can open on your own phone.
The first two weeks of a redesign look like this. Days one to three: kickoff call, read-only access to your analytics and Search Console, a crawl of the current site, and GA4 events added to the old site so the baseline starts collecting. Days four to eight: the inventory spreadsheet with our recommended decision for every URL, which you review and adjust. Days nine and ten: homepage and key service templates on staging.
Quotes and invoices are in USD, paid by Wise or bank wire at the stages written into your approved quote. Invoices come from India; ask your accountant how to treat an overseas supplier. Domain, hosting, code and analytics stay in your accounts, and we are added as users.
We do not visit offices, run photo shoots or give legal advice on privacy wording. We handle the site, the content structure, the redirects and the measurement.
Ownership, handover and what happens after launch
You own the redesigned site outright: domain, hosting, source code, CMS login, analytics and Search Console all sit in accounts registered to your business. If you move to another developer later, there is nothing to transfer from us.
At handover you receive the inventory spreadsheet, the redirect map, a list of tracked events and how to view them, CMS training by video call, and a short document explaining how the site is built. The redirect map stays useful for years, because it answers the question “where did that old page go?”.
Two months of maintenance are included after launch, covering bug fixes, small content changes and security updates. That window also covers the period when search traffic settles after a move, so we can react if a page needs attention. After that, care plans start from US$120/mo; the website maintenance page lists what they include.
Worked example: redesigning a hypothetical Al Quoz interiors firm's site
This scenario is invented to show the process; it is not a client. Picture an interior fit-out business in Al Quoz with an eight-year-old WordPress site of about 140 URLs, including 60 blog posts, a project gallery, English only, and a contact form that emails a shared inbox.
Week one: crawl and inventory. Search Console shows that eleven pages bring most organic clicks, including two old blog posts about fit-out approvals. GA4 events are added for form, phone and WhatsApp taps so four weeks of baseline can collect while design proceeds. Thirty thin blog posts are marked for merging into five stronger guides.
Weeks two and three: new templates on staging, the eleven strong pages carried over with their URLs intact, the merged guides written, and a redirect map of every changed or retired URL. Arabic versions of the homepage, service pages and contact page are added from the firm's approved translation.
Week four: redirects tested, staging reviewed on phones, launch mid-week. At this size the project sits in the SEO website plan, from US$300. Whether leads rise afterwards depends on the market and marketing too, which is exactly why the baseline exists: the firm can compare the same weeks before and after instead of guessing.
