Is WordPress the right CMS for a UAE business website?
For most content-led business sites, yes: service firms, clinics, schools, consultancies, contractors, hotels and B2B suppliers. WordPress is open source, has a huge pool of developers, handles multilingual sites well and lets staff publish without a developer. It is less suited to sites that are mainly a store with little content, or web applications with complex logic.
The decision comes down to four questions. Will your team publish or edit content regularly? Do you need English and Arabic? Will the site grow to dozens or hundreds of pages (services, areas, projects, articles)? Do you want to own and move the site freely between hosts? Three or four yes answers point to WordPress.
Choose something else when the answers point elsewhere. A product-led store with a small team is usually simpler on Shopify (see our Shopify developer page). A portal with logins, dashboards and workflows is a web application, not a CMS site. A five-page site that will never change can be a static build with no CMS at all, which is fastest and needs almost no upkeep.
Fit test
WordPress fits when content changes often, pages multiply, languages matter and ownership matters. It fits less well when the site is mainly a checkout or mainly an app.
What does professional WordPress website design in Dubai include?
A professional build covers discovery, design, a lightweight theme, content structure, multilingual setup, security, hosting, SEO foundations, testing and training. The theme and design are only one part; the set-up decisions around them decide how the site performs in year two.
Discovery settles the sitemap, page types and who will edit what. Design produces the page layouts in both languages. Development turns them into a block theme with reusable patterns and locked areas where staff should not change the layout. Content structure means custom post types for things like projects, team members or locations, so information is entered once and displayed consistently.
Then comes the part budget builds skip: a hardened configuration, a written plugin list, hosting sized for your traffic, backups tested by an actual restore, Core Web Vitals checked on a mid-range phone, forms tested end to end, and a training session recorded for new staff. We list each of these as a line in the quote so you can see it is included.
Block themes vs heavy page builders: which is faster for a Dubai site?
Block themes are usually faster and easier to maintain, because they use WordPress's own editor and output leaner code. Heavy page builders are flexible for drag-and-drop editing but typically load more scripts and styles on every page, which hurts mobile speed.
WordPress 5.9 introduced full site editing and block themes, letting headers, footers and templates be built with the same block editor staff use for pages, according to the official WordPress version notes. Since then, block themes have matured enough that most business sites no longer need a third-party builder at all.
Speed matters for visitors and search. Google's web.dev guidance treats a Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less as good, measured at the 75th percentile of page loads. Builder-heavy sites often miss the first two on phones. We build with a block theme and custom patterns, and if you already run a builder site, we can rebuild it page by page; see website redesign services in Dubai.
- Pick a block theme when speed, stability and fewer plugins matter
- Pick a page builder only if marketers need free-form layouts daily and accept slower pages
- Either way, lock critical layout areas so edits cannot break the design
How do you build an Arabic RTL version of a WordPress site?
Use a multilingual plugin, most often WPML or Polylang, to link each English page to its Arabic version at a separate URL, then make sure the theme mirrors correctly for right-to-left reading. WordPress core supports RTL languages; the work is in the theme, fonts and plugins behaving properly.
Polylang's plugin listing states that it supports RTL scripts and comes as a free plugin with a paid Pro version; WPML is a paid multilingual plugin widely used for larger sites. We choose between them based on the number of pages, whether you run WooCommerce and how your translator prefers to work. Both generate hreflang links between language versions, which Google uses to understand which pages are equivalents.
RTL is more than flipping text direction. Navigation, icons with direction (arrows, chevrons), sliders, forms, tables and numbers all need checking. Arabic fonts need testing for weight and line height. We build and test the Arabic layout; the Arabic copy comes from a professional translator you appoint or approve. Google also advises against auto-redirecting visitors by guessed language, so we add a clear language switch instead. More in our Arabic website design guide.
WPML or Polylang?
Polylang suits small and medium sites and budgets; WPML suits larger sites, heavy WooCommerce use or teams wanting translation management features. Both work for Arabic.
How should a WordPress site in the UAE be secured?
Most WordPress breaches come from outdated plugins, weak admin passwords and careless hosting, not the core software. Hardening means removing those openings at build time and keeping them closed with a routine.
The official WordPress hardening guide recommends keeping everything updated, strong passwords with two-factor authentication, careful file permissions, SFTP rather than FTP, regular backups, activity monitoring and removing unused plugins. It also documents adding define( 'DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', true ); to wp-config.php so nobody can edit theme and plugin code from the dashboard.
We apply these on every build: file editing off, two-factor login for admins, least-privilege roles for staff (editors publish, only admins install plugins), limited login attempts, security headers, off-site backups and a written update routine. Forms carry spam protection and send data only where you decide. If your site handles personal data, the UAE's personal data law is Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, and your lawyer should confirm your privacy notice and consent wording.
- Two-factor authentication for every admin account
- Theme and plugin file editing disabled in wp-config.php
- Staff on editor or author roles, not administrator
- Only maintained plugins, each with a documented purpose
- Daily off-site backups with a tested restore
- SFTP or SSH access only, HTTPS everywhere
Where should a Dubai WordPress website be hosted?
Host on a reliable managed WordPress plan or a cloud server in a region close to your visitors, in your own account. For UAE audiences that often means a Gulf or nearby region with a CDN in front; for global audiences, the CDN matters more than the origin location.
WordPress's official requirements page recommends PHP 8.3 or greater, MySQL 8.0 or greater or MariaDB 10.11 or greater, and HTTPS support. Cheap shared hosting often lags on these and crowds many sites onto one server, which shows up as slow admin screens and slow pages at busy times.
If you want infrastructure in the UAE, Amazon Web Services lists a Middle East (UAE) Region, code me-central-1, in its official region documentation, and other major clouds also have regional options. Whether your data should stay in the country is a question for you and your adviser. We set hosting up in your name, add caching and a CDN, configure backups outside the server and hand you the billing so there is no reseller margin.
How many plugins does a WordPress website need?
Fewer than most sites have. A typical business site can run well with a multilingual plugin, a forms plugin, an SEO plugin, a caching or performance plugin and a backup or security tool. Every extra plugin adds update work, potential conflicts and security exposure.
We agree a written plugin list before the build, with the purpose, vendor, licence type and renewal date of each. Small features that often become plugins, such as a WhatsApp button, a team grid, a simple FAQ block or announcement bar, we build directly into the theme as blocks or patterns, so there is nothing extra to update.
When a plugin is genuinely needed (bookings, events, memberships, WooCommerce), we pick one that is actively maintained and compatible with your multilingual setup. The plugin list lives in your handover documents so a future developer can see exactly what is installed and why.
Handover and training: making sure your staff can edit the site
A WordPress site is only worth its CMS if your team can use it. Handover should leave them able to edit pages, add posts, update menus, swap images and publish in both languages without calling a developer.
Our handover includes a live video session recorded for staff who join later, a short written guide with screenshots specific to your site, and user accounts with the right roles. We show editors which patterns to use for new pages, how to add an Arabic translation of a page, how to compress and upload images properly and what not to touch.
Staff can then handle routine edits themselves, and we handle updates, backups and anything structural. During the five free maintenance months after launch, questions from your team are part of the service, which is usually when most of them come up.
- Recorded walkthrough of the editor and your site's patterns
- Written guide for pages, posts, menus, forms and translations
- Named accounts with editor or author roles
- Admin credentials, hosting access and plugin list in a handover pack
How much does WordPress website design in Dubai cost?
With us, WordPress sites start from US$150 for up to 100 pages over 1–2 weeks; SEO-led sites of 299+ pages start from US$300 over 3–5 weeks; a WooCommerce store starts from US$750. Local quotes in Dubai vary widely by provider, depending on team size, overheads, design approach and what is bundled.
We quote in USD rather than publishing AED bands. The honest reason is that page count is a poor predictor on its own: 20 pages with custom layouts in two languages can take more work than 60 pages from a single template. Our itemised quote lists design, theme build, Arabic version, content migration, integrations and training as separate lines.
Running costs are separate: hosting, domain, any premium plugin licences and translation. After two free months, maintenance starts from US$120/mo. For wider budgeting, including non-WordPress options, compare with our website development cost guide.
WordPress website design in Dubai with search and AI visibility built in
WordPress gives you good SEO tools, but the structure you build matters more than the plugin. Search-friendly WordPress design means one clear page per service and area, logical URLs, internal links, schema, fast templates and separate URLs for Arabic pages with hreflang.
At launch we set up Google Search Console, XML sitemaps, structured data for your organisation and pages, redirects from any old URLs, and GA4 with calls, forms and WhatsApp clicks as key events. Templates are written so each page has one H1, descriptive headings and a short direct answer near the top, which also makes pages easier for AI Overviews and assistants to quote.
Nobody can guarantee rankings, and a well-built site is the starting line, not the finish. If you want ongoing work, our SEO packages for Dubai businesses explain the tiers, and monthly SEO starts from US$150/mo.
Moving to WordPress from Wix, Squarespace or an old theme
A migration should keep your search visibility and your content while fixing whatever made the old site hard to use. The work is mostly planning: listing every URL, deciding where each goes and redirecting old addresses so links and rankings carry over.
We crawl the old site, map every URL to a new one, move content into the new structure and set up 301 redirects. Images are resized and compressed during the move. Forms are rebuilt and tested so no enquiries are lost on switch-over day. We then watch Search Console for crawl errors in the weeks after launch.
Rebuilding an existing WordPress site that has grown slow is often simpler than a platform move: new block theme, trimmed plugins, same content. The quote says which approach fits and why.
Can a WordPress site also run an online shop?
Yes, through WooCommerce, which runs on the same WordPress install. It suits businesses whose shop sits beside substantial content, or who need custom product logic, and it avoids a platform subscription, but it adds hosting and upkeep responsibilities.
A shop adds product templates, cart and checkout, payment and courier integration, order emails and stock management, plus more careful hosting and security. For UAE stores we build card and wallet checkout through your chosen provider and cash-on-delivery rules where you offer them. WooCommerce stores start from US$750.
If the shop is the main business and content is light, Shopify may be simpler to run. Our ecommerce website cost guide for Dubai compares the running costs of both over a first year.
Red flags when hiring for WordPress website design in Dubai
Most bad WordPress projects share the same early warning signs. Check proposals for these before you sign.
- Hosting, domain or admin account held in the provider's name
- A “custom design” that is a multipurpose theme with a demo import
- No mention of plugin list, updates or backups
- Nulled or unlicensed premium plugins, which can carry malware
- Arabic version promised by machine translation
- No staff training or editing guide in the scope
- No speed testing on mobile before launch
- Ranking promises attached to the design
Our quotes answer each of these in writing, and nothing is billed before you approve the quote.
Worked example: a bilingual WordPress site for a hypothetical Abu Dhabi engineering consultancy
Suppose an engineering consultancy in Abu Dhabi wants a new site: 12 service pages, 30 project case pages, a team section, a careers page and news, all in English and Arabic. This is a hypothetical scenario to show the approach, not a real client.
We would build a block theme with patterns for service pages, project pages and news posts, and custom post types for projects and team members so staff add entries through simple forms. Polylang would link English and Arabic pages at separate URLs; the consultancy's translator supplies Arabic text. The careers form would send applications to HR's inbox with file uploads restricted by type and size.
Hosting would be opened in the consultancy's name with a CDN, daily off-site backups and two-factor login. At handover, the marketing coordinator gets a recorded training session and a written guide for adding projects in both languages. The build would start from US$150; maintenance is free for two months, then from US$120/mo if they keep us on.
Working with a WordPress team in India from the UAE
India is 1.5 hours ahead of the UAE, so your working day and ours overlap almost completely. Design reviews happen on short video calls, day-to-day questions on WhatsApp, and you review progress on a staging site at a private address.
Payments are in USD by Wise or bank wire, split into milestones listed in the written quote, and invoices come from India. Any NDA or contract terms are agreed before work begins; our terms set the defaults. Your domain, hosting, premium plugin licences and admin accounts are opened in your name from day one.
The first two weeks for a typical project: a kickoff call to agree sitemap and page types, a content checklist for your team, hosting and staging set up in your account, homepage and one inner page designed in English and Arabic for approval, then the block theme built from those designs. For static sites up to 100 pages, launch often follows within those 1–2 weeks once content is ready. We do not visit premises or shoot photos, so we will point you to a local photographer if you need new images.
Set a performance budget at launch and protect it: limits on page weight, image sizes, fonts and third-party scripts. Most WordPress sites are fast on launch day and slow a year later because each small addition went unchecked.
Images cause most of the drift. Staff upload phone photos several megabytes in size, so we configure automatic resizing and modern formats, and show editors in training how large a banner should be. Fonts come next: an Arabic and a Latin family in several weights add up quickly, so we load only the weights the design uses and host them with the site.
Third-party scripts are the third culprit: chat widgets, heatmaps, social embeds and multiple tracking tags each add work for the browser. We load them only where needed and after the main content. During maintenance we re-check Core Web Vitals in Search Console each month and flag any page that has slipped, with the cause and the fix, before visitors notice.
- Automatic image resizing and modern formats on upload
- Only the font weights the design actually uses
- Third-party scripts loaded late and only on pages that need them
- Page caching plus a CDN, checked after every plugin change
