A port, a navy town and a beach destination in one
Karwar's economy has several distinct parts. The navy is the largest single presence: INS Kadamba at Binaga, developed under Project Seabird, brings thousands of personnel and their families, who need schools, clinics, shops, tailors, tutors and home services. Karwar Port moves cargo for the north Karnataka hinterland, supporting clearing agents, transporters and warehousing. Fishing boats, fish traders and processors form another large group along the coast.
Around these sit the tourism businesses that grew with the beaches: homestays and resorts at Devbagh and Majali, water sports and boat operators running trips to Kurumgad island, restaurants serving Karwari fish curry, and taxi drivers meeting trains on the Konkan Railway. Further inland, the Kaiga nuclear power station and the Aditya Birla chemicals plant employ technical staff who also live and spend in the area.
District offices, courts, the medical college and the district hospital draw people from Ankola, Kumta, Sirsi, Joida and Dandeli. The result is a small city with a broad customer base: tourists, transferred families, fishermen, government staff and villagers, each searching in their own way.
What a website costs in Karwar
Karwar businesses get website offers from all directions: local freelancers, Goa agencies, booking portals that bundle a page with a commission, and relatives who know some coding. Prices range wildly, and so do the terms. The domain is often registered to the seller, and once they stop answering, the business cannot change a phone number on its own site.
Our starting prices are listed on the pricing page. A static website of up to 100 pages starts at ₹10,000 and is ready in one to two weeks. An SEO website with 299+ pages starts at ₹20,000 and takes three to five weeks. Online stores start at ₹50,000, custom web applications at ₹60,000, WhatsApp and AI automation at ₹40,000, and monthly SEO at ₹10,000 a month.
What moves the final figure is scope: number of pages and languages, booking calendars, online payments, staff logins, and whether we write the text. Everything is itemised, so a homestay can start small and add booking later.
- From ₹10,000: up to 100 pages in English, Kannada or Konkani with WhatsApp, map and search basics.
- From ₹20,000: 299+ pages, such as one per room, trip, product or service area.
- From ₹50,000: an online store with UPI and card payments and courier rates.
- From ₹60,000: custom booking systems, trader registers and other web applications.
Homestays and resorts at Devbagh, Majali and along the coast
Devbagh, where the Kali meets the sea, and Majali, a long beach a few kilometres from the Goa border, have filled with homestays, cottages and resorts. Guests come from Bengaluru, Pune, Hubballi and Goa, and many compare three or four options on their phones before choosing. The booking portals help with visibility but take a commission on every stay and own the guest's contact details.
Your own website lets you keep repeat guests and direct bookings. Each room or cottage needs its own page with real photos, the bed setup, bathroom type, whether it faces the sea or the garden, rates or a rate range by season, what meals are included, and how to reach you from Karwar station or the Goa airports. A clear cancellation policy and check-in rules prevent arguments later.
We can add a booking calendar with advance payment through UPI or cards, or keep it simple with a WhatsApp enquiry button. For stays near the navy area, we avoid publishing anything about restricted zones and point guests to local signage and official notices.
Boat trips, water sports and Kurumgad island
Boat operators and water sports businesses run trips to Kurumgad island, dolphin rides off Devbagh and activities such as kayaking, jet ski and banana rides on the beaches. Their customers decide quickly, often on the same day, and they want to know three things: what the trip includes, how much it costs and whether it is safe.
A good operator page lists each trip separately with duration, starting point, price or price range, group size, age limits, life jacket and safety practices, and what happens in bad weather. Photos and short videos from actual trips work far better than stock images. A WhatsApp booking button with preset messages helps a tourist confirm a slot while standing on the beach.
Because weather and sea conditions close trips during the monsoon, we make seasonal notices easy to update so customers are not misled. We will not publish safety or licence claims that you cannot back up.
Fish traders, dried fish and cashew businesses
Fishing has long been one of Karwar's main livelihoods, and the catch flows to local markets, processors, ice plants and buyers further inland. Dried fish, fish pickles and Karwari masalas travel with families who have moved to Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai and the Gulf. Uttara Kannada is also known for cashew, and Ankola's Kari Ishad mango received a GI tag in 2023.
Small traders and home producers can sell these directly through a simple store. Product pages should show the fish or item, weight options, how it is dried or packed, shelf life, storage advice, FSSAI details and courier timelines. For bulk buyers such as restaurants or wholesalers, a trade enquiry form captures quantity, frequency and delivery location.
Stores start from ₹50,000. For wholesale fish and cashew traders, we also build stock and dispatch registers that track purchases, sales, pending payments and deliveries on a phone, starting from ₹60,000. We only use claims about origin or quality that you can document.
Restaurants, fish thalis and Karwari food
Karwari cooking, built on rice, coconut, kokum and fresh fish, is one of the reasons visitors stop here rather than driving straight through to Gokarna or Goa. Small restaurants serving fish thalis, fried pomfret, prawn curry and clams, and home kitchens selling masalas and pickles, compete for the same hungry tourist who has just stepped off a train or a boat.
Most diners pick a place from Google Maps within a few minutes, looking at photos, the menu, opening hours and the most recent reviews. A restaurant with an accurate listing, a simple menu page that shows the day's catch or a note that prices vary with the market, and a working phone number wins that choice far more often than one with a blurry listing and no menu.
We build light menu pages that load quickly on patchy beach networks, add table booking or group enquiry forms for tour parties, and make it easy for you to mark items as unavailable. Delivery and takeaway orders can go straight to WhatsApp. None of this needs a large budget; for most restaurants a static site from ₹10,000 with a well-kept Google profile is enough.
Serving naval and transferred families
Naval personnel, Kaiga staff and government officers transfer into Karwar regularly, often from other states. A new family needs everything at once: a school with mid-year admission, a paediatrician, a dentist, a tailor, a gas connection, a maid agency, tuition for Kannada as a new subject, and somewhere good to eat on weekends. They search in English and Hindi, not Konkani, and they rely heavily on reviews.
Shops and service providers in Kodibag, Habbuwada, Kajubag and the market areas can win these customers early by being clear online. That means an accurate Google Business Profile, English pages that explain services and prices, delivery or home-visit areas, and a WhatsApp number that is actually answered.
Families share recommendations constantly, both in person and in their housing colony WhatsApp groups. We help you set up a polite system for requesting genuine reviews after a visit, never paid or fake ones.
Hospitals, clinics, schools and colleges
The Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences, a government medical college set up in 2012, and the district hospital make Karwar the main medical centre for much of the coast. Private clinics, dental and eye centres, diagnostic labs and pharmacies serve patients from Ankola, Kumta, Joida and villages along the Kali, many of whom travel some distance.
A clinic website with doctor profiles, qualifications, OPD days and timings, services, test preparation notes and directions reduces wasted trips. Kannada and English versions help different patient groups. WhatsApp confirmations and reminders cut missed appointments. We keep medical content factual, with no cure claims or success statistics.
Schools, colleges and coaching centres benefit from admission pages with dates, fee ranges, transport routes and facilities, plus an enquiry form that sends questions straight to the office. That is especially useful for transferred families trying to arrange admission from another city before they arrive.
Port, logistics and service firms
Karwar Port handles cargo for north Karnataka and nearby states, and it supports a set of businesses that rarely think about websites: clearing and forwarding agents, shipping agents, transporters, surveyors, warehouse operators and marine engineering firms. Their customers are companies, often outside Karwar, who check credentials online before sending an enquiry.
For these firms, a clean professional site matters more than volume. It should state services clearly, list the cargo types and routes handled, show licences or registrations you actually hold, name the people to contact and give a proper business address. A quote request form that captures cargo type, volume and timeline saves back-and-forth emails.
Behind the site, we can build simple job tracking tools that record each consignment, documents received, status and billing, so your team is not hunting through email threads. These start from ₹60,000.
Local search and Google Maps on the Karwar coast
Search in Karwar mixes languages. Tourists and transferred families type in English or Hindi. Konkani is the most common home language in the city, and many residents also use Kannada, typed in Kannada script or in Roman letters: “Karwar nalli olle hotel”, “Kodibag dentist”, “Devbagh homestay contact”. We write pages in the languages your customers actually use.
The Google map pack decides which three businesses appear first for searches like “homestay near me” or “fish market Karwar”. It depends on your Google Business Profile: right category, accurate pin, correct hours, real photos and genuine reviews. Along the coast, pins are often wrong, which sends guests down the wrong lane. Locality names such as Kodibag, Habbuwada, Kajubag, Baad, Sadashivgad, Devbagh and Majali help people understand where you are.
Our SEO service covers profile setup, page optimisation, consistent directory listings and monthly reporting, with monthly SEO from ₹10,000. Nobody can promise the first position. We fix what most listings get wrong.
- Google Business Profile claimed, categorised and pinned at the correct lane or beach
- English, Kannada and Konkani content where each is useful
- Locality names like Kodibag, Devbagh and Majali used naturally
- Duplicate listings merged across Google, Justdial and booking sites
- A monthly report on calls, direction requests and bookings
WhatsApp and AI automation for the tourist season
From October to May, a busy homestay or boat operator in Karwar can get dozens of WhatsApp messages a day. Most ask the same things: is a room free on these dates, how much is the Kurumgad trip, is breakfast included, how far is it from the station. Answering each one by hand takes hours, and replies sent late lose the booking to someone faster.
We set up automation that replies instantly with information you approve, asks for dates, number of guests or trip preferences, and saves each enquiry in a simple dashboard. It can send room photos, rate cards and directions, and pass guests who are ready to pay to a real person with the full chat visible. Clinics can use the same approach for appointment requests, and traders for price enquiries.
Automation starts from ₹40,000. The bot identifies itself as automated. Anything about refunds, complaints or medical matters goes straight to your team.
How our remote team works with Karwar clients
We do not have an office in Karwar, Goa or anywhere in Karnataka, and we will not show a borrowed address to look local. BtechWaleTech is three engineers working remotely with clients across India. Without rent and sales staff, our starting prices stay lower and you talk directly to the people building your site.
Projects run over WhatsApp, phone calls and screen sharing. After an initial conversation we send a page plan, timeline and itemised quote, usually within two working days. Once you approve, you get a preview link to check on your own phone, share with partners and comment on by message or voice note. Small changes are usually done the same day.
One of us builds websites and applications end to end. Another of us handles AI, machine learning, AWS and data. The third of us plans projects and builds automation and data science tools. Message us on any day of the week, Indian time.
Your site, your domain, your guest list
Many coastal businesses have lost control of their online presence at least once. A booking portal changes its commission, a freelancer stops answering, or a domain registered in someone else's name lapses during the monsoon off-season. Guest contacts and reviews built up over years can vanish overnight.
We register your domain and hosting in your name from the start. At launch you get every login, the full source code and a short note on how the site works. Guest lists, bookings and enquiries stay in accounts you control and can be exported at any time. If you move to another developer later, you take everything with you and pay no exit fee.
Maintenance is free for two months after launch: rate and photo updates, bug fixes, security updates, backups and speed checks. After that it continues from ₹8,000 a month, or you contact us only when you need a change. More details are on our web development page.
What to check before hiring a web developer
Ask whose name the domain and hosting will be registered in, and make sure it is yours. Ask for two or three live sites the developer has built and open them on your phone using mobile data, the way a tourist on the beach would. Ask who will update seasonal rates, monsoon notices and photos after launch, and what it costs.
Be cautious of anyone guaranteeing first rank on Google, a fixed number of bookings, or asking for full payment upfront with no written scope. Check that titles, descriptions, a sitemap and Search Console setup are included.
For booking sites, ask how double bookings are prevented and how refunds are handled. A developer who has thought about those questions before you ask is usually worth hiring.
