What does “website developer for hire” mean for a short project?
It means booking a developer for a defined piece of work, then parting ways or continuing only if you want to. There is no hiring process, no employment contract and no retainer. You pay for an outcome: a page live, a bug gone, a site moved.
This model suits the many businesses that already have a website but need something done to it. The original builder may have moved on, the in-house person may be busy, or the task is simply too technical for the marketing team. A website developer for hire fills that gap for days or weeks, not years.
The work usually falls into four buckets: building something new but small (a landing page or a microsite), changing something existing (a redesign or restyle), extending it (more pages, a booking form, a second language), or repairing it (errors, speed, security). Each bucket has different risks, and we scope them differently, as the sections below explain.
- Build: landing page, event microsite, campaign page
- Change: redesign, new theme, brand refresh
- Extend: extra pages, forms, integrations, Hindi version
- Repair: bugs, slow pages, hacked files, broken redirects
When is a short engagement better than a full website build?
Choose a short job when your site mostly works and the problem is specific. Choose a full rebuild when the problems are everywhere: the platform is outdated, the design fights your brand, and every fix breaks something else.
A quick test helps. Write down the three things that bother you most about the site. If they are all in one area, such as “contact form does not send” or “we need a page for our new service”, a short job fixes them. If they span design, speed, content and editing all at once, you will spend more patching than rebuilding. In that case a new static site from ₹10,000 or an SEO site from ₹20,000 usually costs less over a year.
There is a middle path too. We sometimes redesign the pages that earn money, such as the home page and top services, and leave low-traffic pages for later. That keeps the first invoice small and lets real visitor data guide the next step.
Short job fits when
One or two clear problems, a working platform, content you are happy with, and a deadline measured in days.
Rebuild fits when
Old, unsupported code, repeated hacks, a design you are embarrassed to share, or an editor nobody can use.
Hiring a website developer for a landing page
A landing page is the most common short job we see. It has one purpose, usually a form fill, a call or a WhatsApp message, and it often carries paid traffic from Google Ads or Meta, so every slow second costs money.
What we deliver on a landing page: a mobile-first layout, a headline that matches the ad, one call to action repeated at natural points, trust elements such as certifications or process steps, a short FAQ, and tracking for form submissions and button clicks. The page is kept light, images are compressed and sized, and scripts are loaded only when needed.
Hosting matters here. A landing page can sit on your main domain as a new path, on a subdomain, or on separate low-cost static hosting. We recommend the main domain when the page should also rank, and a subdomain when it is purely for ads and you want freedom to test versions. For conversion copy and testing plans, see landing page design.
Redesigning a site without losing what already works
A redesign should change how the site looks and feels, not throw away its search history. The biggest risk on any redesign job is broken URLs: pages that ranked for years suddenly return errors, and traffic falls within weeks.
Before touching design, we crawl the existing site and export every URL, title and heading. Pages that bring visits, according to Google Search Console, keep their address or get a permanent 301 redirect to the closest new page. Internal links are updated, the XML sitemap is regenerated, and Search Console is checked for spikes in “not found” errors for a few weeks after launch.
Design work itself is done on a staging copy, so your live site stays untouched until you approve. You review each template on your own phone. When the redesign goes live, the switch takes minutes, and the old version is backed up in case anything needs to be compared. The full method is on website redesign freelancer.
Can a website developer for hire charge per page?
Yes, for adding pages to an existing site, per-page pricing is often the clearest option. The catch is that “a page” can mean very different amounts of work.
A page that reuses an existing template, with text and photos you supply, is quick. A page that needs a new layout, a form, a calculator, a gallery or copy written from scratch takes longer. So our quotes list each page with a short note: “uses services template”, “new layout”, “copy by us”. You see why one line costs more than another.
If you are adding many similar pages, for example one per city or per product, per-page pricing stops making sense. At that point generating pages from structured data is cheaper and more consistent. That is the approach behind our SEO websites from ₹20,000, where 700+ location or service pages share a tested template. Ask us which model fits once you know the page count.
What kinds of website fixes can you hire a developer for?
Almost any fault that shows up in a browser can be traced and fixed. The common ones we see are forms that stop sending email, layouts that break on certain phones, images missing after a hosting change, pages stuck in redirect loops, plugin conflicts after an update, and mixed-content warnings after SSL is added.
The first step is always diagnosis, not guessing. We reproduce the fault, check server logs and browser console errors, and look at recent changes. Many “broken site” reports turn out to be one expired API key or one plugin update. Once the cause is clear, we tell you what failed, what the fix involves and whether it could happen again.
If the site is WordPress, fixes often involve updating PHP, replacing abandoned plugins and removing duplicates. On custom code, we patch the cause and add a note to the repository. Emergency fixes on a live store or a lead page get priority; describe the urgency on WhatsApp. Our bug fixing page lists more fault types.
How to write a job brief a developer can quote on
A good brief for a short job fits in one message. It should say what exists now, what you want changed, what “done” looks like and when you need it. Screenshots and links help more than long descriptions.
Vague briefs produce vague quotes. “Make the website better” can mean anything from a font change to a rebuild. “Our contact form on the services page shows success but no email arrives; site is WordPress on shared hosting” can be quoted within a day.
- Link to the live site and the exact pages involved
- Platform, if known: WordPress, custom code, Wix, Shopify, other
- What should happen versus what happens now
- Screenshots or a screen recording from your phone
- Who holds hosting, domain and admin access
- Deadline, and whether a campaign or event depends on it
- Budget band, if you have one

Giving a hired developer access to your site safely
Never share your main admin password or your domain registrar password. Create a separate user for the developer, with only the permissions the job needs, and remove it when the job ends.
On WordPress that means a new administrator or editor account in their name. On hosting control panels, most providers let you add a user or share file access through SFTP credentials that you can reset. For code on GitHub or GitLab, add the developer as a collaborator on the one repository. For Google Search Console and Analytics, add their email as a user rather than sharing your Google login.
We ask for exactly this kind of access on every short job, and we list the accounts we used in the handover note so you can remove them afterwards. Before making changes to a live site we take a full backup of files and database, and we tell you where it is stored. If your hosting has no backup option, we will suggest one, because a website developer for hire should never be working without a way back.
How much does a website developer for hire cost in India?
For a full new site, our starting points are listed in the plan table: a static website of up to 100 pages from ₹10,000 (US$150), an SEO website with 299+ pages from ₹20,000, an online store from ₹50,000 and a custom web app from ₹60,000. Short jobs are quoted per task because they vary too much for a single figure.
What moves the price of a short job? The state of the existing code is the biggest factor. A clean, documented site takes less time to change than one with years of patches, page builder layers and unknown plugins. After that come the number of pages or templates touched, whether copy and images are ready, and how much testing is needed, for example checkout flows or forms feeding a CRM.
Across the market, quotes for the same small job can differ several times over. Hourly sellers, fixed-gig sellers and agencies each count effort differently. Compare what is included: backup, testing on phones, a written summary of what changed, and a warranty on the fix. The website developer cost page breaks down full build pricing in more depth.
Hourly billing or task-based quotes: which suits short jobs?
Task-based quotes suit most short jobs because you know the total before work begins. Hourly billing suits open-ended investigation where nobody can see the problem yet.
We use a simple rule. If the job can be described in advance, such as adding six pages or building a landing page, you get a task quote with a total. If the job starts with “something is wrong and we don’t know what”, we quote the diagnosis first as its own line. Once the cause is known, the repair is quoted as a task. You never face an open meter running in the background.
Be careful with very low hourly rates on short jobs. A person charging little per hour but taking three times as long, or fixing the symptom instead of the cause, costs more in the end. For a wider look at hourly and project billing, read freelance web developer rates.
Warning signs when hiring a website developer for a quick job
Short jobs attract rushed decisions, especially when a site is down or a campaign starts tomorrow. These signs suggest you should pause, even under pressure.
- Asking for your domain registrar or email password
- Refusing to take a backup before changing a live site
- No written note of what will change and what will not
- Promising a fix before looking at the site
- Installing extra plugins or scripts you did not ask for
- Moving your site to their own hosting “to make it easier”
- Guaranteed Google positions bundled into a small job; nobody can guarantee rankings
- No explanation of the cause once the fix is done
A developer who explains the cause of a fault in plain words is showing you they understood it. Ask for that explanation every time.
How quickly can a hired website developer start and finish?
Most short jobs start within a few days of quote approval and finish within one to two weeks. A single landing page or a small fix can be faster; a redesign of a large site takes longer.
Start dates depend on what is already booked. We tell you the earliest realistic date in the quote rather than saying “immediately” and delivering late. Urgent fixes on a live business site, such as a broken checkout, jump the queue where we can manage it.
Rough guides from our side: a landing page with ready copy takes a few working days; adding pages to an existing site takes a few days to a week depending on count and templates; a redesign of a small site takes one to two weeks; a hosting move usually takes a day of work plus DNS time. A new site from scratch follows the plan timelines, for example 1–2 weeks for a static site. The next table sets these out side by side.
What should you receive when a short job ends?
A short job should end with a clear handover, not just a message saying “done”. You should know exactly what changed, where the backup is and what to watch for.
Our handover on short jobs includes: a list of files, pages or settings changed; before and after screenshots where it helps; the backup location; any new accounts, plugins or services added, with renewal dates; and the access we used, so you can remove it. If code is in a repository, the changes are committed with readable messages.
If a fault we introduced shows up after handover, we fix it without charge. If you want someone keeping an eye on the site each month, maintenance plans start at ₹8,000/mo. New builds from us include two months of free maintenance; short jobs on sites we did not build are quoted separately, since we cannot vouch for code we have not seen. See website maintenance for what ongoing care covers.
Short jobs for Indian sites: WhatsApp, UPI, Hindi and slow phones
Many of the quick jobs we get from Indian businesses are about local habits the original site ignored. The site was built for a laptop, but customers arrive on budget Android phones over mobile data and would rather message than fill a form.
Typical fixes here: adding a click-to-chat WhatsApp button with a prefilled message per page, so you know which service the enquiry came from; shrinking a home page that weighs several megabytes; adding UPI and card options to an existing checkout; creating Hindi or regional-language versions of key pages with proper language tags; and putting GSTIN, address and phone on every page footer for trust.
We test these changes on an older Android phone on a throttled connection, because that is how a large share of Indian visitors see your site. If the page feels slow there, it is not finished.
Worked example: a coaching institute needs three things by Monday
This is an illustrative scenario, not a client story. It shows how a short job gets scoped when several small requests arrive together.
A coaching institute’s owner messages on a Wednesday: admissions open Monday, the enquiry form has stopped sending email, they want a landing page for a new weekend batch to run with ads, and they need the fee page updated. The site is WordPress on shared hosting, built years ago by someone no longer reachable.
We would ask for a separate admin user and hosting file access, take a full backup, and split the quote into three lines. The form fix comes first: the likely cause is the host blocking PHP mail, so we would route email through an authenticated SMTP service and test delivery to two inboxes. The fee page update is a content change. The landing page reuses the site’s fonts and colours, carries one form plus a WhatsApp button, and gets conversion tracking for the ad account. Each line is quoted, approved and delivered in that order, with a handover note by the weekend.
Website developer for hire across India
Short jobs are ideal for remote work: most take place inside your hosting, your code repository and a staging link, none of which depend on where anyone sits. The same quote process and reply times apply in every state.
City pages describe the kind of work local businesses ask for: Nashik, Rajkot, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Jodhpur, Varanasi, Raipur, Amritsar, Mangaluru and Siliguri. If you would prefer someone in your own city, the website developer near me page covers local search basics for shops and clinics.
Overseas owners of small sites hire us the same way for fixes and landing pages, billed in USD by Wise, bank wire or PayPal. See countries we work with.
