Before you hire an iOS developer: decide native or cross-platform
The first hiring decision is not a person, it is an architecture. A native iOS developer writes Swift, usually with SwiftUI or UIKit, and produces an app that runs only on Apple devices. A cross-platform developer writes Dart with Flutter or JavaScript and TypeScript with React Native, and the same code becomes an iPhone app and an Android app.
In India this matters more than in many markets. Android phones make up the large majority of devices here, while iPhones are concentrated among higher-spending urban users, professionals and customers abroad. So most Indian businesses need both platforms, and paying for two separate native apps doubles the build and the maintenance.
Native Swift still wins for some products: apps built around Apple Watch, rich home-screen widgets, augmented reality, heavy on-device camera or audio processing, or apps whose whole appeal is feeling perfectly Apple-like. If that describes yours, hire a Swift specialist. If your app is about orders, bookings, content, payments or accounts, cross-platform usually serves you better.
Swift vs Flutter vs React Native: which should your iOS developer use?
Each option is mature and each has shipped apps used by millions. The right pick depends on your team, your features and who maintains the app after launch.
Swift with SwiftUI or UIKit
Full access to every Apple API on release day, best integration with iOS conventions, and the smallest surprises in App Store review. You need a separate Android build.
Flutter
One Dart codebase with its own rendering engine, so the design looks identical on both platforms. Strong performance for business apps and a large package ecosystem.
React Native
JavaScript or TypeScript with native UI components. A natural fit if your web team already uses React, and Expo simplifies builds and updates.
Rule of thumb
Choose Swift for Apple-first, hardware-heavy products. Choose Flutter or React Native for business apps that must reach Android and iPhone users together.

Skills to check when you hire an iOS developer
Whatever the framework, an iOS developer must understand how Apple ships software. Many candidates can build screens; fewer can get a build through signing, TestFlight and review without drama.
- Xcode, certificates, provisioning profiles and automatic versus manual signing
- App Store Connect: app records, builds, TestFlight groups, phased release
- Privacy: App Privacy details, the privacy manifest, permission prompts with clear reasons
- Push notifications through APNs, deep links and universal links
- Handling different iPhone sizes, the notch and Dynamic Island areas, dark mode and larger text
- Crash reporting and reading crash logs from real devices
- For cross-platform: writing or fixing a small native bridge when a package falls short
Ask them to walk you through their last submission, including anything a reviewer questioned. A developer who has handled a rejection calmly is worth more than one who claims never to have had one.
Interview questions to ask an iOS developer before hiring
Good interview questions test judgement, not trivia. You do not need to be technical to hear the difference between a vague answer and a specific one.
- “Show me an app you published. Which account is it under, and what did you do in App Store Connect?”
- “Our app sells physical products. How will payments work on iPhone?”
- “How would you test on older iPhones we do not own?”
- “What happens to our app if you are unavailable for a month?”
- “How do you send us a build to try before it goes to review?”
- “Why would you choose Swift or a cross-platform framework for our idea?”
- “What will you hand over at the end, and how?”
Listen for concrete tools and steps: TestFlight invites, a shared repository, a signing checklist. Generic answers such as “we follow best practices” tell you little.
A fair paid test task for an iOS developer
A short paid task beats hours of interviews. Keep it small, relevant to your app and paid, because good developers rarely do free work and unpaid tests attract the wrong people.
A useful task: build one screen from your app, say a product list that loads from a sample API with a detail view and a pull-to-refresh, then deliver it as a TestFlight build to your iPhone plus a link to the code. That single exercise shows UI quality, network handling, how they manage signing and whether they can deliver to a real device on time.
Review it on your own phone, not in screenshots. Try it on mobile data, rotate the device, increase the text size in Settings and switch to dark mode. Then ask a second developer, or us, to glance at the code for structure and naming. For a whole app project, our first paid milestone serves the same purpose.
How much does it cost to hire an iOS developer in India?
The cost to hire an iOS developer depends on the model: hourly or monthly for a person, or a project quote for a defined app. For a business app built with us, iPhone and Android together start at ₹40,000, or US$600 for overseas clients, and typically take 6–10 weeks.
Quotes across the market vary a lot for similar ideas. The spread usually reflects scope assumptions: how many screens, how many user roles, whether a backend and admin panel are included, who designs the interface, and how much support follows release. A low quote that silently leaves out the backend is not cheaper.
Remember the costs that never go through a developer. Apple charges an annual developer programme fee, Google Play charges a one-time registration, and backend hosting is a monthly cloud bill. All three should be paid from your card into your accounts. More budgeting detail sits on app development cost in India.
Apple developer account: whose name should it be in?
Yours, always. The App Store listing, ratings and download history belong to the account that publishes the app. If a developer publishes under their own account, moving the app later is possible but slow and depends on their cooperation.
Apple offers individual and organisation enrolment. An organisation account shows your business name as the seller and needs a D-U-N-S number, a legal entity, a work email on your domain and a working website. Individual accounts show your personal name. Getting a D-U-N-S number can take days, so start it early; we will guide you through the steps on a call.
Once the account exists, you add us as users with the roles we need. Certificates and signing keys are created inside your account, so the day we stop working together, nothing leaves with us. The same principle applies to Google Play Console. If you already have a website domain, it doubles as the support URL for the listing; if not, a simple site starts at ₹10,000.
App Store review: what an iOS developer should prepare for
Every iPhone app and update passes Apple’s review before users can install it. Most business apps pass without trouble when the basics are right, but rejections are common for avoidable reasons.
The usual causes: login required with no demo account for the reviewer, placeholder text or broken links, permission prompts that do not explain why the app needs location or camera, missing account deletion inside the app when users can sign up, and privacy details that do not match what the app actually collects. We prepare a reviewer note, a working demo login and screenshots for each required device size before submitting.
Payments need thought. Physical goods and real-world services, such as food orders or salon bookings, can use your normal UPI and card checkout. Digital content consumed inside the app, such as premium lessons or subscriptions, generally falls under Apple’s in-app purchase rules. Ask any iOS developer how your model fits before building checkout.
Timeline after you hire an iOS developer: weeks one to ten
A first release of a typical business app takes 6–10 weeks with our cross-platform approach. Shorter is possible for very small scopes; longer happens when requirements grow mid-build.
Weeks one and two cover screens in a clickable design, the data model and account setup with Apple and Google. Weeks three to six are the core build, with a TestFlight build and an Android test build sent to your phone every week or so. Weeks seven and eight focus on testing on real devices, fixing edge cases and writing store listings. The last stretch is submission, reviewer questions and a staged roll-out.
The biggest delays come from outside the code: slow Apple organisation enrolment, late content and changing decisions. Starting enrolment in week one removes the most common one.
Red flags when you hire an iOS developer
Most problem projects show warning signs early. Slow down if you see any of these.
- Offers to publish the app under their own Apple account “to save time”
- No TestFlight build before the final delivery date
- A portfolio of screenshots with no App Store links you can open
- Promises that the app will “definitely” pass review or reach top charts
- A single lump-sum quote with no screen list or backend scope
- Reluctance to share the code repository during the build
- Suggesting two separate native apps for a simple ordering or booking idea without explaining why
iPhone apps for Indian users: payments, languages and mixed devices
Indian iPhone users behave a little differently from Android users, and a good hire accounts for both. iPhone owners here often expect polished design and Apple-style navigation, yet the same app must also run well on budget Android phones used by most of your customers.
For checkout, UPI intent flows and card payments work on both platforms for physical goods and services; we test the hand-off to UPI apps on iPhone specifically, because it behaves differently from Android. For language, Hindi and regional scripts need fonts and layouts that do not break when text is longer than English. For notifications, iPhone requires users to grant permission, so ask at a moment that makes sense, not on first launch.
If your customers are mostly overseas Indians or clients in the Gulf, the USA or the UK, iPhone usage is typically higher and the iOS build deserves extra polish time.
Handover: what you should receive from any iOS developer
A clean handover means another developer could pick up your app next week. Put this list in the agreement before work begins.
- Source code in a Git repository you own, including the iOS project folder
- Apple and Google developer accounts in your name, with our access removable
- Signing certificates and keys stored in your accounts, not on one laptop
- Backend code, database access and cloud billing in your name
- Admin panel logins and a short guide for your staff
- A list of every paid service, package licence and renewal date
- Build and release notes so the next update is routine
Worked example: a salon chain hires an iOS developer
This is a hypothetical scenario, not a client story, to show how the decision plays out.
A salon brand with a few branches in a metro wants customers to book appointments and buy memberships. Its Instagram audience skews towards iPhone users, but the staff and many customers use Android. The owner first looks to hire an iOS developer who writes Swift.
On the first call we would point out that nothing in the brief needs native-only Apple features, and that two native apps would double the budget. The proposal: a Flutter app for both stores from ₹40,000, with booking slots per branch, UPI and card checkout for services, push reminders and a web admin panel for branch managers. The Apple organisation account starts in week one using the salon’s D-U-N-S number. TestFlight builds reach the owner’s iPhone from week three. Memberships that cover only in-person services stay outside in-app purchase, which we confirm against Apple’s rules before building checkout.

iPhone app banwana hai? Kisko hire karein
Agar aapki app ko Android aur iPhone dono par chahiye, toh Flutter ya React Native wala developer hire kijiye; ek hi code se dono apps banti hain aur kharcha kam aata hai. Sirf iPhone wali, Apple Watch ya AR jaisi app ho toh Swift developer behtar hai.
Hamare saath dono platforms ki app ₹40,000 se shuru hoti hai aur 6–10 hafte lagte hain. Apple developer account aapke naam par banta hai, aur har hafte TestFlight se app aapke iPhone par test ke liye aati hai. Launch ke baad 2 mahine ki maintenance free hai.
