What is an SEO website developer, and how is that different from an SEO expert?
An SEO website developer builds the website itself with search in mind: the page structure, templates, code, schema, speed and crawl paths. An SEO expert or consultant usually works on a site that already exists, improving content, links and local listings over months. The two jobs overlap, but they happen at different moments.
The developer’s moment is before launch. Decisions made then are expensive to undo: URL patterns, whether pages render as HTML or only in JavaScript, how categories nest, how many clicks deep a page sits. Get them right and every future article or location page slots into a structure that already works. Get them wrong and you pay for a redesign, redirects and a dip in traffic.
Our team splits the work by strength. Another of us handles technical SEO, data and hosting on AWS; one of us writes the templates and front-end code; the third of us owns the page map, content pipeline and review rounds. You talk to all three on WhatsApp.
- Before build: keyword research, intent grouping, page map
- During build: templates, schema, internal links, sitemaps, speed
- At launch: Search Console, analytics, redirects, indexing checks
- After launch: optional monthly SEO and content additions
What makes a website “SEO-first” rather than SEO-friendly?
“SEO-friendly” usually means a site that does not break the basics: titles, meta descriptions, a sitemap. “SEO-first” means the site’s structure was decided by search demand. Every page exists because a group of people search for it, and every page answers that search better than a generic page could.
In practice, an SEO-first site starts as a spreadsheet, not a design. Rows are pages; columns are the target query, intent, parent hub, the unique facts that page will carry, and which pages it links to. Design comes second and serves that map: a location page template, a service page template, a comparison template, each with slots for the data that makes it useful.
This order matters for AI search too. Google’s AI Overviews and assistants like ChatGPT quote pages that answer a question directly and clearly. A site planned around questions, with a direct answer near the top of each page, is easier for those systems to cite.
SEO-friendly
A normal site with correct tags. Fine for a brochure presence. Ranking comes, if at all, from brand searches and a few pages.
SEO-first
Structure driven by search demand, templates built for each intent, and data that makes each page distinct. Built to earn traffic from many queries.
How should an SEO website developer structure a large site?
Use hubs and spokes, with shallow depth. A hub page covers a broad topic, such as a service or a state. Detail pages cover specific combinations, such as that service in one city. Hubs link down to all their details; details link up to the hub and sideways to close relatives.
Keep important pages within three clicks of the home page, and let breadcrumbs mirror the hierarchy. URLs should be short, lowercase, hyphenated and stable: /pest-control/pune/ is better than /services.php?id=42&city=7. Avoid putting dates or IDs in URLs unless they carry meaning.
Decide early how filters and sort options behave. On listing pages, crawlable filter combinations can multiply into thousands of near-identical URLs. An SEO website developer chooses which combinations deserve their own indexable page and which stay as parameters with a canonical pointing to the main version.
- One hub per major service, product line or region
- Detail pages only where search demand and unique data exist
- Breadcrumbs with BreadcrumbList schema on every page
- Related links generated by rule, not added by hand
- Canonical tags on every page; parameters kept out of the index
For the wider planning of topics and clusters, SEO consulting covers audits and roadmaps.
How are 299+ pages built without becoming thin or duplicate content?
Large sites are built from templates plus data. The danger is pages that differ only by a swapped city name. Google’s spam policies specifically name scaled content abuse: many pages made mainly to rank rather than to help. A page count is never the goal; useful, distinct pages are.
So each template needs data fields that genuinely change per page. For a service business, a location page might carry the local areas served, the specific problems common there, timings, prices where you publish them, local landmarks for directions, reviews from that area if you have them, and FAQs that differ by place. For a product catalogue, the fields are specifications, uses, compatibility and comparisons.
We collect that data in structured files, validate it, and generate pages at build time. Before launch we check similarity across pages and remove or merge those that would not stand on their own. The site you are reading uses this same approach for its city and service pages.
Signs a large page set is healthy
Each page answers a real query, has several facts no sibling page has, and would still make sense if it were the only page someone saw.
Signs of trouble
Pages that read identically apart from one word, auto-generated paragraphs with no facts, and pages nobody would search for.
If an existing plugin-generated page set is struggling, technical SEO help can audit what to keep, merge or remove.
Which schema markup should an SEO website developer add?
Schema markup tells search engines what a page is about in a machine-readable way. We write it in JSON-LD inside each template, so every generated page carries correct markup without anyone adding it by hand.
The right types depend on the site. Almost every business site needs Organization or LocalBusiness with consistent name, address and phone, plus BreadcrumbList. Service pages use Service; blogs use Article with an author; stores use Product with offers and availability; events, courses and job listings have their own types.
Be realistic about rich results. Google shows some markup as visible enhancements and ignores others for most sites; FAQ rich results, for example, have been limited to a small set of authoritative sites since 2023. Markup still helps search engines and AI systems understand entities and relationships, so it is worth doing correctly, but it is not a ranking switch. Every template is tested in the Rich Results Test and Schema.org validator before launch.
- Organization / LocalBusiness with consistent NAP details
- BreadcrumbList matching the visible breadcrumb
- Service, Product, Article or Course depending on page type
- WebSite and WebPage with correct canonical URLs
Technical foundations every SEO website should launch with
Search engines must be able to fetch, render and understand each page quickly. Most technical SEO problems on new sites come from a handful of avoidable choices.
Render content as HTML. Pages built as static HTML or server-rendered by frameworks such as Astro or Next.js give crawlers the full text on the first request. Sites that only assemble content in the browser with JavaScript can be indexed, but more slowly and less reliably. Links must be real anchor elements with href attributes, not click handlers.
Then the plumbing: an XML sitemap split into sensible files if the site is large, a robots.txt that blocks only what should be blocked, one canonical URL per page, correct 301 redirects for anything that moved, a proper 404 page that returns a 404 status, HTTPS everywhere, and hreflang tags if you publish the same content in several languages.
- HTML content on first load, no JavaScript-only text
- XML sitemap index plus per-section sitemaps
- Consistent trailing slashes and lowercase URLs
- Canonical, robots meta and hreflang where needed
- Correct status codes: 200, 301, 404, never soft 404s
Core Web Vitals and speed: what an SEO website developer should hit
Aim for “good” on all three Core Web Vitals for real users: Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint under 200 milliseconds, and Cumulative Layout Shift below 0.1. INP replaced First Input Delay as a Core Web Vital in 2024, which puts more weight on keeping JavaScript light.
Speed is a tiebreaker, not a magic lever, but slow pages lose visitors before they read anything, especially on budget Android phones and patchy mobile data. The build choices that pass these thresholds are simple: ship mostly static HTML, size and compress images and give them dimensions, load fonts carefully, avoid heavy sliders and chat widgets above the fold, and defer anything that is not needed on first view.
We check lab scores with Lighthouse during the build and watch field data in Google Search Console after launch, because lab numbers on a fast laptop can hide what real visitors experience.
Keyword research and page mapping before the build
The page map is the most valuable document in an SEO website project. It decides which pages exist, what each targets and how they connect. Everything else follows from it.
We start with your services, locations and customers, then expand into the queries people actually use, including Hinglish and regional phrasing where relevant. Queries with the same intent go on one page; queries with different intent get separate pages. This avoids cannibalisation, where two of your own pages compete and neither ranks well.
You review the map before any design starts. It shows every planned page with its target query, parent hub and the unique data it needs. This is also where we cut pages that have no real demand or no distinct content, which keeps the site smaller and stronger.
Head terms
Broad queries like a service name. Handled by hub pages with the most depth.
Modifiers
Location, price, “near me”, “for small business”. Often worth their own detail pages when data differs.
Questions
How, what, cost, time. Answered on the relevant page and in FAQs, or as articles if they need depth.
How much does an SEO website developer cost in India?
With us, an SEO website with 299+ pages starts at ₹20,000 (US$300 for clients abroad) and takes 3–5 weeks. A smaller site that simply needs strong on-page basics fits the static website plan, from ₹10,000. An online store built for search, with product and category schema, starts at ₹50,000.
The biggest variable is data and content. If you can supply service details, areas covered and local facts in a sheet, the build is mostly engineering. If we need to research and write that data for hundreds of pages, the content line grows. The second variable is migration: redirecting an old site’s URLs and preserving what already ranks.
Elsewhere in the market, quotes for “an SEO website” range widely, partly because the term means different things. Some mean a theme with an SEO plugin. Compare what is actually delivered: number of templates, schema types, page map, speed targets and Search Console setup. More detail on budgets is on website making cost in India.
How long does it take to build an SEO website?
Three to five weeks from an approved page map is typical. The first week goes to research and the map; the second to templates and schema; the third to data, page generation and internal links; and the last stretch to speed work, checks and launch. Migrations and large content requirements add time.
Ranking is a separate clock. After launch, Google has to discover, crawl and evaluate the pages, and large sites are indexed gradually over weeks or months. New domains usually take longer to earn trust than established ones. We set expectations in writing: a well-built site removes technical obstacles, but visibility depends on competition, content quality and the reputation your business builds over time.
How to choose an SEO website developer, and the red flags
Ask to see a large site they built and open it yourself. Check a few deep pages: do they carry real, different information, or the same text with one word swapped? View the page source: is the main content in the HTML? Run one page through PageSpeed Insights and the Rich Results Test.
Then ask how they would structure your site before quoting. A capable SEO website developer will talk about intents, hubs and data fields. Someone who only talks about “keywords in the meta tags” is a decade behind.
- Any promise of first position or guaranteed rankings; nobody can guarantee rankings
- Thousands of pages proposed with no plan for unique data per page
- Domain, hosting or Search Console held in the developer’s name
- Content hidden behind JavaScript that crawlers see late or not at all
- No redirect plan when replacing an existing site
- Bought backlinks offered as part of the package

Launch, Search Console and the first 90 days
Launch day is when SEO work becomes visible, so it needs a checklist. We verify the domain in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, submit sitemaps, confirm robots.txt is not blocking anything important, and spot-check that key pages return 200 and carry the right canonical.
For redesigns, every old URL that had traffic or links gets a 301 redirect to its closest new page. We crawl the old site before switching, keep the list, and check it again after launch.
In the following weeks we watch coverage reports for pages that are crawled but not indexed, fix anything flagged, and review which queries start to show impressions. Those early signals show which templates are working and where content needs strengthening. That work is covered by the two months of free maintenance for fixes, and by optional monthly SEO from ₹10,000/mo if you want ongoing growth work.
Building SEO websites for Indian searchers
Search behaviour in India has its own patterns, and a site built for them performs better. Most searches happen on phones, many by voice, and a growing share in Hindi, Hinglish and regional languages.
- Mobile-first templates tested on budget Android phones and slower connections
- Hindi or regional-language versions with proper hreflang, not auto-translated copies
- City and locality pages for businesses serving many areas, with real local details
- Click-to-call and WhatsApp buttons on every page, since many visitors prefer them to forms
- Consistent business details that match your Google Business Profile
- Pricing shown in rupees where you choose to publish it, with GST notes if relevant
For businesses whose customers mostly come from one city, local SEO near you and Google Business Profile work matter as much as the site.
Example: planning an SEO website for a home services business
This is a hypothetical example to illustrate the method; it is not a client case.
Imagine a pest control business covering several districts in one state, offering eight services such as termite treatment and cockroach control. It gets most work from phone calls and has a five-page site that ranks only for its own name.
The page map would include eight service hubs, district and town pages where the business actually operates, and service-in-location pages only where it has crews and something specific to say, for example which pests are common in that season or locality. Each page would carry the areas covered, typical visit timing, treatment method, safety notes and FAQs that vary by service. Templates would include LocalBusiness and Service schema, breadcrumbs, and a sticky call and WhatsApp bar.
The result might be 299-plus pages on the ₹20,000 plan, with a line for writing service data if the owner cannot, built in about four weeks. After launch, monthly SEO would add seasonal articles and refine pages based on Search Console queries.
