What do website development services in India actually include?
They should include every step from the first conversation to a live, findable site that someone keeps healthy afterwards. In India the phrase gets stretched in both directions: some quotes cover only a template and a domain, while others bundle logos, social media posts and ads. A practical test is to ask who handles each job below, and what happens to your business if nobody does.
- Discovery and page plan: what each page must make a visitor do, in which language, on which device
- Design: phone-first layouts reviewed on a staging link before any code is final
- Development: static code, WordPress, Shopify or a custom stack, chosen for how often you update
- Content handling: your text and photos edited for the web, compressed and placed
- Integrations: WhatsApp, maps, forms to email and sheets, UPI or card checkout where needed
- Launch: domain, hosting, SSL, sitemap and Google Search Console, all registered to you
- Handover and care: logins, a recorded walkthrough and two months of free maintenance
The BtechWaleTech team covers all seven for every scope, from a ten-page clinic site to a 299-page SEO build. What we leave out is physical work: shop photography, printing, signage and hardware. If a quote you receive skips launch or care, budget for them separately, because that is where small-business sites in India quietly fail: a lapsed domain, an expired SSL certificate, or a contact form that stopped delivering enquiries months ago without anyone noticing.
Who in India needs website development services, and why now?
Almost any business in India whose customers search before they buy, which today is most of them. The enquiries we see fall into four groups: local service businesses such as clinics, coaching centres and salons; manufacturers and traders selling to other businesses across state lines; D2C brands selling direct to households; and institutions such as schools, hospitals and NGOs that need a credible public face.
Three facts about India shape how these sites must be built. Discovery is mobile: Google finished moving every site to mobile-first indexing on 5 July 2024, according to Google Search Central, so the phone version of your site is the version that gets judged. Payment habits are digital: UPI, run by the National Payments Corporation of India, is how many customers expect to pay, so stores and booking sites need it at checkout. And language is plural: the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution lists 22 languages, so a site for buyers in Madurai or Kolkata may need Tamil or Bengali beside English.
Competition is the other half of the picture. Every Indian city has many people offering websites, from students to large agencies, and quotes for similar-sounding work vary widely. The real differences sit in what happens after launch, who owns the accounts, and whether the site was planned for your buyers or adapted from a theme. The rest of this guide helps you judge exactly those differences.
How much do website development services in India cost?
Starting prices with us are ₹10,000 for a business website of up to 100 pages, ₹20,000 for an SEO website of 299+ pages, ₹50,000 for an online store, ₹60,000 for a portal or custom web app, and ₹40,000 for an Android and iOS app. Clients outside India see the same scopes in dollars: US$150, US$300, US$750 and US$900.
Across India, quotes for one brief can differ several times over. The city rarely explains that gap; the scope does. These are the drivers we price, roughly in the order they move the number:
- Distinct page types: a home page, a service template and a blog template are three designs, however many pages use them
- Content readiness: text and photos you already have, or copy that still needs writing, translating or approving
- Languages and scripts, since each language needs its own URLs, fonts and testing
- Transactions: checkout, bookings, logins, or links to billing and stock software
- Data volume: fifty products typed by hand or five thousand imported from a spreadsheet
Domain renewal, hosting and business email are separate running costs that you pay straight to the providers; we list them in the quote so the yearly total is visible. For worked budgets by business type, see website making cost in India, and for stores, ecommerce website cost in India. Every figure above is a starting price, confirmed in an itemised quote.
The process: how we deliver website development across India, week by week
A business website usually takes one to two weeks once your content is ready; SEO sites take three to five weeks, stores four to eight and portals six to twelve. Nobody travels at any point. Here is how a typical ten- to twenty-page site moves, wherever in India you are:
Day 1: the brief
A WhatsApp message, then a half-hour video or phone call about your customers, the pages you need and how enquiries reach you today. A written summary follows the same day or the next.
Days 2–3: the itemised quote
Pages, features, running costs, languages and dates, line by line. We begin only after you approve it in writing.
Days 3–6: design on staging
The home page and one inner page go up on a private staging link. You react by text or voice note, and we revise before building the rest.
Week 2: build, content and testing
Remaining pages, forms, WhatsApp and maps go in. We test on budget Android phones over mobile data, then on desktop browsers.
Launch day
Domain connected, SSL switched on, sitemap submitted to Google Search Console and analytics added under your own account.
After launch you receive every login and a recorded walkthrough, and two months of free fixes and edits begin. The usual cause of delay is content rather than code: photos still to be shot, a price list awaiting approval, translated pages under review. We fix content dates in week one so the schedule stays honest for both sides.
How do I choose the right website development service in India?
Judge providers on things you can verify yourself, not on the length of their service list or a claim to be the best in the country. Half an hour of checking saves months of trouble later, and every point below takes minutes:
- Open three sites they built on your own phone, over mobile data. Note load time, broken forms and text that is hard to read.
- Ask who will design and code your site, and speak to that person before paying anything.
- Ask for a line-by-line quote; a single lump figure hides what is missing.
- Ask in whose name the domain, hosting and code will be registered. The only good answer is yours.
- Ask how you will see progress. A live staging link beats a folder of screenshots.
- Ask what happens in the third month after launch, and what it costs.
- If you need Marathi, Telugu or Odia pages, ask to see one they built and open it on a cheap phone.
We are happy to be judged the same way. Our guide on how to judge the best freelance web developer in India goes deeper into portfolios and references, and freelancer versus agency for a website explains which size of provider suits which kind of project. Ask every shortlisted provider the same questions, including us, and compare the answers side by side.
Which technology should an Indian business website use?
The right stack follows from two questions: how often will the content change, and who will change it? We recommend after the first call and write the reason into the quote, so you can question it.
Static site (HTML or Astro)
Fastest and cheapest to host, with very little to hack. Ideal for profile sites and catalogues that change a few times a month, where edits come to us on WhatsApp.
WordPress
Best when your staff will publish news, offers or blog posts themselves. We keep plugins to a minimum and record a training video. The WordPress documentation is worth a look if you like to read ahead.
Shopify or WooCommerce
For stores. Shopify is hosted and quick to run; WooCommerce keeps everything on hosting you control. Our Shopify versus WooCommerce comparison sets out the trade-off.
Next.js or a custom web app
For logins, bookings, dealer portals and dashboards that store records. These start at the custom web app price.
Whatever the stack, hosting is registered to you and the code sits in a repository or backup you hold. We avoid tools with costly yearly licences unless they clearly earn their keep, and if your current setup works, we will tell you so instead of selling a rebuild you do not need.
Feature checklist for a complete Indian business website
Use this list to compare quotes for website development services in India. Not every site needs every line, but each one you skip should be a decision rather than an accident:
- Click-to-call and a WhatsApp button with a pre-filled message naming the page
- Address with pin code, a map, and opening hours that match your Google Business Profile
- Enquiry forms that reach both email and a sheet, with spam protection
- Pages that pass Core Web Vitals on a mid-range Android phone
- Prices or “starting from” ranges wherever your trade allows them
- GSTIN and registered business name in the footer if you sell to other businesses
- A privacy notice and consent wording on forms that collect personal data
- Language switcher and separate URLs if you run more than one language
- Preview images so links shared on WhatsApp show a proper card
- Analytics and Search Console under your own Google account
On privacy: the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, notified in November 2025 according to the Press Information Bureau, phase in duties around consent and data security over 18 months. We build consent notices, form wording and data deletion routes to your specification; your lawyer or CA confirms what your business actually needs. We do not give legal sign-off on any rule.
Can my website be in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali or another Indian language?
Yes. We write and edit English and Hindi ourselves. For Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Odia, Assamese, Punjabi, Urdu or Gujarati, you or your translator supply or approve the copy, and we do everything technical around it.
That technical layer is where Indian-language sites often go wrong. Text must be real Unicode, never pictures of text, so Google can read it and visitors can copy it. Fonts must carry the script: the Noto Sans family on Google Fonts covers every major Indian script, and we load only the weights a page uses so it stays light. Line height needs room for vowel signs and conjuncts, and Urdu runs right to left, so its layout mirrors.
Structure matters for search. Each language gets its own URLs, such as /hi/ or /ta/, with hreflang tags so Google shows the right version, plus translated titles, menus, buttons, form labels and error messages. A Bengali page with an English-only form feels unfinished to the reader.
Start with the languages your buyers actually use. A software exporter rarely needs Odia pages; a sweet shop in Cuttack probably does. If Hindi search is your priority, our page on Hindi SEO services explains how Hindi queries behave.
Mobile, WhatsApp and UPI: building for how India browses and pays
Design for a visitor on a budget Android phone, on mobile data, who will tap WhatsApp before reading a full paragraph. Get that visitor right and the desktop version follows easily; the reverse rarely works.
In practice that means compressed images in modern formats, fonts limited to what each page needs, tap targets large enough for a thumb, and no pop-ups covering the content. Core Web Vitals give measurable targets, published on web.dev: the largest element painted within 2.5 seconds, a response to taps within 200 milliseconds, and layout shift below 0.1.
WhatsApp is the enquiry channel for a large share of Indian buyers. Each page gets a button that opens a chat with a message such as “I am asking about the 3BHK plan on your Wakad page”, so you know which page produced the lead. Click-to-call sits beside it for customers who would rather talk.
For payments, UPI suits stores, advance bookings and fee collection. Stores connect a payment provider you sign up with, so money settles straight into your merchant account; simpler sites can use a UPI payment link. Cash on delivery stays available for stores whose buyers expect it, with rules you control.
How will customers find my website on Google and in AI answers?
Through foundations built in from day one, then content and local signals over time. Nobody can guarantee rankings, and anyone who promises a set position by a set date is guessing. What we control is everything that gives your pages a fair chance:
- Unique titles and descriptions, clean URLs and a logical heading structure
- Schema markup for your business type, services, products and FAQs
- An XML sitemap submitted to Google Search Console under your account
- Fast pages that meet Core Web Vitals on phones
- Local landing pages for each city or area you genuinely serve
- Name, address and phone identical on the site and your Google Business Profile
For local searches across India, an accurate Google Business Profile often brings the first calls; Google's Business Profile help explains verification and categories. AI assistants and Google's AI Overviews tend to quote short, specific, self-contained statements: what you do, where, for whom and from what price. We write key pages in that style. If you serve many cities or products, an SEO website of 299+ pages from ₹20,000 builds a genuine page for each from your data, and ongoing SEO work starts at ₹10,000/mo.
Who owns the website when website development services in India end?
You do, completely, from the first day rather than at the end. The domain, hosting, code, content, images, analytics and business email are registered in your name or your business's name, and you hold the passwords.
This matters because a familiar story in Indian small businesses is the owner locked out of their own site: the domain was registered by a nephew, a former employee or a developer who stopped answering, and every renewal reminder goes to someone else. Whoever controls the domain controls the website and the email that runs on it. At handover you receive:
- Admin access to domain, hosting and website, with two-step verification switched on
- The code in a repository you own, or a full backup for WordPress and store themes
- A one-page register of every service, where its login lives and when it renews
- A recorded screen-share walkthrough of everyday edits
- Search Console and analytics under your Google account
If your current domain sits with a former developer, we help you request the transfer before building anything new. For a project abandoned halfway, read what to do when a developer leaves a project midway. Ownership is also your exit route: if you ever want another developer, there is nothing for us to hand back.
Red flags when hiring website development services in India
Most website disappointments in India follow a handful of patterns, which makes them easy to spot early. Walk away, or at least ask harder questions, when you see any of these:
- A price with no page list or feature list behind it
- Full payment demanded before any design is shown
- Domain or hosting registered in the developer's name “for convenience”
- Promises of a top Google position within a set number of days
- A “custom design” that is a theme demo with the placeholder text still showing
- Hindi or regional-language text supplied as images
- Hosting bundled into a yearly package you cannot move elsewhere
- No staging link, so you first see the site after it goes live
The remedies are simple: staged payments tied to visible work, a written scope, accounts in your name from day one, and a straight answer to “what happens after launch?” One risk is particular to remote work, and that is communication drifting. We handle it with one WhatsApp group per project, a written summary after every call, and a staging link that always shows the current state of the build.
Worked example: a spice exporter in Kochi with buyers abroad
This is a hypothetical scenario to show how the service fits together, not a past client or a result. Say a family-run spice exporter in Kochi sells pepper and cardamom to importers in the Gulf and Europe, and retail packs to households in Kerala and Bengaluru. Today, enquiries arrive through trade fairs, email and forwarded WhatsApp messages.
On the first call we would split the job in two: an English trade site with product specifications, packing options, the certifications the exporter already holds and an enquiry form asking for grade, quantity and destination port; and a small retail section with UPI checkout. Malayalam pages for local buyers could follow later, with the owner supplying the text.
The quote would pair a business website from ₹10,000 with store functions priced from ₹50,000, or begin with the trade site alone and add the store once retail demand is clear. Week one would bring the home page and one product page on staging, reviewed by the owner on a phone between shipments. The trade pages would launch first, with Search Console, product schema and the exporter's Google Business Profile linked.
During the two free maintenance months we would add new grades, adjust the enquiry form after the first genuine enquiries and fix anything visitors stumble over. Nobody would need to travel to Kochi at any stage.
What happens after my website goes live?
Two months of maintenance are free from launch. They cover bug fixes, small text, photo and price edits, tested updates, backups, and a review of Search Console once Google starts crawling, which is often when the first real issues surface.
From the third month, care is optional and starts at ₹8,000/mo. A care plan typically includes updates tested on staging first, backups stored in an account you own, uptime and SSL checks, form and checkout tests, and a monthly allowance of small edits requested on WhatsApp. A ten-page profile site may need very little; a store taking daily orders or a portal with logged-in users benefits from steady attention. Details are on our website maintenance page.
You can also run the site yourself, or hand it to another developer. Because every login, backup and repository is already yours, nothing needs releasing. Plenty of owners handle routine edits in-house and call a developer only for bigger changes, which is perfectly sensible.
Planning a busy season such as Diwali sales, admissions or the wedding months? Tell us a few weeks ahead and we will hold back risky updates and prepare banners or new pages in advance.
Website development services across India: every state, one remote process
The process, prices and ownership terms are identical whether you run a business in a metro, a state capital or a district town, because the work runs on WhatsApp, video calls and a staging link. India keeps a single time zone, IST, so a call fits your working day anywhere from Kutch to Kohima. Our city guides cover each market's industries, localities and languages:
- North: Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Dehradun
- West and central: Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Goa and Indore
- South: Bangalore (Bengaluru), Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi and Coimbatore
- East and Northeast: Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi and Guwahati
What changes from one state to the next is the content: the languages your customers read, the festivals that drive sales, and state rules your CA or lawyer may flag. What stays the same is the method. Gujarat businesses have a full set of city guides on our Gujarat hub, and state pages such as Maharashtra and Karnataka list the wider IT services we offer there.
