How much does iOS app development cost in India in 2026?
iOS app development cost in India with BtechWaleTech starts at ₹40,000, and the figure covers an iPhone app plus its Android twin. That pairing is deliberate. We build in Flutter or React Native, so the iPhone screens, the rules behind them and most of the tests are written once and compiled for both platforms.
Published price guides for India often quote a wide band, and the band is wide for a reason. “An iOS app” can mean a four-screen brochure or a marketplace with drivers, vendors and payouts. Hourly rates also vary a lot between a student freelancer and an experienced team. What you should compare is not the headline number but the list behind it: screens, backend, admin panel, payments, App Review work, testing devices and who owns the Apple account.
Three groups of work make up almost every iOS app development cost in India that we quote. The first is what users see: screens, navigation, forms, notifications. The second is what they do not see: the server, database, admin tools and integrations such as WhatsApp or Tally. The third is Apple-specific: signing certificates, privacy disclosures, TestFlight rounds and the review itself. The third group is small in hours but large in consequences, because a rejected build delays your launch.
- Screen design and build for iPhone (and Android from the same code)
- Backend: a managed service such as Firebase, or your own API and database
- Admin panel for your staff, if the app needs one
- Apple signing, privacy details, demo login and review submission
- Testing on physical iPhones of different sizes and iOS versions
Does an Indian business need an iOS app at all?
Many Indian businesses do not need an iPhone app on day one, and some never will. StatCounter’s mobile operating system figures for India in August 2026 show Android at about 92.8% and iOS at about 7.2% of mobile usage. If your customers mirror the national average, most of them carry Android phones.
Averages hide the part that matters to you, though. iPhone owners are not spread evenly across customer groups. A premium dermatology clinic in South Mumbai, a design studio pitching to corporate buyers, an export house whose importers sit in the US or Europe, or an NRI-focused property developer may find that their most valuable customers are the iPhone users. A kirana delivery app in a Tier 3 town, a field attendance app for sales staff, or a coaching app for students preparing for state exams will usually be almost entirely Android.
So the question behind iOS app development cost in India is not “what is India’s share?” but “what phone does my paying customer hold?”. Look at your own data: website analytics split by device, the phones your staff see at the counter, the questions customers ask on WhatsApp. If one in five of your best buyers uses an iPhone, skipping iOS means turning away the people who spend most.
Build for iPhone now when
Your customers skew premium, corporate, international or NRI; investors or partners will judge the product on iPhones; or your competitors’ apps are already on the App Store.
Wait on iPhone when
Users are mostly staff, students or value shoppers on budget Android phones, and the budget is tight. Build cross-platform anyway, so iOS later is a release rather than a rebuild.
Our guide on whether to launch Android or iOS first works through this choice with more examples.
Native Swift or cross-platform: how the iOS app development cost in India changes
A native Swift app is written only for Apple devices; a cross-platform app written in Flutter or React Native runs on iPhone and Android from shared code. For most business apps, cross-platform lowers iOS app development cost in India because you are not paying two specialists to build the same booking screen twice and then maintain it twice.
Native Swift wins in a narrower set of cases. If the product lives inside Apple’s own features, such as home-screen widgets, Live Activities on the lock screen, an Apple Watch companion, deep HealthKit use or heavy on-device graphics, a Swift developer works with those APIs directly. A cross-platform app can reach many of them through small native modules, but each module is extra work, and when most of the app is modules, the saving is gone.
We are open about our own limit here. BtechWaleTech builds iPhone apps in Flutter or React Native and writes small native pieces when a feature needs them. We do not take on apps that are mainly Swift. If your idea is a watch-first fitness product or a widget-driven utility, we will say that a specialist Swift developer is the better fit rather than stretch our stack.
- Bookings, orders, memberships, catalogues, dashboards: cross-platform
- Field staff apps with camera, location and forms: cross-platform
- Apps that must be identical on budget Android and on iPhone: cross-platform
- Watch-first, widget-first or AR-heavy products: native Swift
- An existing healthy Swift app needing small changes: keep it native

What does the Apple Developer Program cost, and who should own it?
The Apple Developer Program costs US$99 a year, according to Apple’s programme page, and it is required to publish on the App Store. Membership includes App Store Connect for listings and releases and TestFlight for beta testing, which Apple says supports up to 10,000 external testers. Apple may show the fee in your local currency when you enrol.
The account should be enrolled by your business, not by your developer. Apple’s enrolment help explains that an individual or single-person business appears on the App Store with the person’s legal name as the seller. An organisation appears under its legal entity name, and to enrol one you need a D-U-N-S number (Apple notes it is free in most places), a public website on your own domain, a work email on that domain and a person with authority to sign agreements for the company.
Plan for this early, because a new D-U-N-S number and Apple’s verification can take days to weeks. Apple also offers fee waivers to eligible nonprofits, accredited educational institutions and government bodies that do not sell digital goods through their apps; a registered trust running a school may qualify.
- Sole proprietor: enrol as an individual; your legal name shows as seller
- Private limited or LLP: enrol as an organisation with a D-U-N-S number
- Trusts, schools, government bodies: check Apple’s fee waiver rules first
- Add us as users with limited roles; never share your Apple ID password
App Store review: the compliance work inside every iOS app quote
Every iPhone app is checked by Apple before it goes live, so a good quote includes the work that gets it approved. Apple’s App Review page says 90% of submissions are reviewed in under 24 hours on average, and it also says more than 40% of unresolved issues relate to guideline 2.1, App Completeness: crashes, broken links, placeholder content and missing review information.
We build the checklist into the app rather than scramble at the end. Guideline 2.1 asks you to give reviewers full access, so if your app has a login, we set up an active demo account with realistic data and keep the backend running during review. Guideline 5.1.1(v) says an app that lets people create an account must also let them delete it from inside the app, which means a real deletion flow on the server, not a “write to us” link.
Guideline 4.2 on minimum functionality says an app should offer more than a repackaged website. A website wrapped in an app shell is a common reason small Indian businesses get rejected. Guideline 4.8 says an app using a third-party social login must also offer an equivalent option that limits data to name and email and lets users hide their email; Sign in with Apple is the usual answer. Apps using only their own phone or email login are not covered by that rule.
- Demo account and review notes ready before submission
- In-app account deletion wired to the backend
- Privacy policy link that works and matches what the app collects
- Sign in with Apple when Google or Facebook login is offered
- No placeholder text, test images or dead buttons
Can an iPhone app take UPI payments, or must it use Apple’s in-app purchase?
It depends on what you sell. Apple’s guideline 3.1.3(e) says apps selling physical goods or services used outside the app must use payment methods other than in-app purchase, so a restaurant, salon, clinic or shop can take UPI and cards through its payment provider as usual. Guideline 3.1.1 says unlocking features, subscriptions or premium content inside the app must use Apple’s in-app purchase.
This single rule can change iOS app development cost in India by a meaningful line. A coaching institute selling recorded courses, a fitness trainer selling video plans or a SaaS product selling seats inside the app falls under in-app purchase, which needs products set up in App Store Connect, receipt checks on your server and a restore-purchases button.
Apple keeps a commission on those digital sales. Its subscriptions page says you receive 70% of the price during a subscriber’s first year and 85% after a year of paid service. Under the App Store Small Business Program, developers with no more than one million US dollars in proceeds in the previous calendar year pay a 15% commission. Price your plans with that in mind.
Your normal payment provider works for
Food and grocery orders, appointments, home services, event tickets for physical venues, physical products from your shop.
Apple in-app purchase is expected for
Paid features inside the app, digital courses consumed in the app, premium content, in-app subscriptions.
If you run a web-based subscription product, the SaaS development cost guide explains how billing and GST invoices are handled on the web side.
Which iPhones and iOS versions should your app be tested on?
Device testing is a real line in iOS app development cost in India. Test on at least one recent iPhone, one older supported model and the smallest screen your customers use, on current and previous iOS versions. Simulators on a Mac catch layout issues quickly, but only a physical phone shows real performance, notifications, camera behaviour and how Face ID prompts feel.
iPhones stay in use for years, and people in India often buy older or refurbished models. An app that looks fine on a large current phone can clip buttons on a compact screen or stutter on an older chip. We keep a test matrix per project: screen sizes, iOS versions, dark mode, larger accessibility text and weak network. Each build goes to your team through TestFlight, so you check it on your own phones before Apple sees it.
Apple also moves the goalposts every year, and that shapes the test plan. Apple’s upcoming requirements page says that from 28 April 2026, apps uploaded to App Store Connect must be built with Xcode 26 or later using the iOS 26 SDK. Each new SDK can change how older layouts, permissions or keyboards behave, so a retest after the SDK bump is part of the job.
- One current iPhone and one model several years old
- Smallest and largest screen sizes your users have
- Current iOS and the previous major version
- Dark mode, large text sizes and VoiceOver basics
- Slow or patchy mobile data, and airplane mode mid-action
Do I need a Mac or an iPhone to get an iOS app built?
No. You do not need a Mac, and you do not strictly need an iPhone either. Apple’s Xcode, which builds and signs every iPhone app, runs only on macOS, so the developer needs Mac access; that is our cost, not yours.
What you do need is your own Apple Developer Program membership, so the app is published under your name, and a way to try the builds. Borrowing an iPhone from a family member or colleague for a TestFlight check is enough for most small businesses. If nobody in your team has one, we record short screen videos of every build on our test phones and send them on WhatsApp.
Mac hardware never appears as a line in your iOS app development cost in India with us. It is still worth having one iPhone in the business once the app is live. Customers will send you screenshots of problems, and being able to repeat what they did on the same kind of phone shortens every support conversation. A modest older iPhone that runs the current iOS version is plenty.
How long does iOS app development take in India?
On the time side of iOS app development cost in India, an iPhone app is normally planned at 6–10 weeks from agreed screens to App Store release, with the Android version shipping in the same window. The calendar depends on screen count, the backend and how fast decisions come back, more than on the platform.
The Apple-specific steps add a few fixed stops. Enrolling an organisation and getting a D-U-N-S number should start in week one, in parallel with design. App Review usually finishes within a day or two, but a rejection sends the build back, and the fix plus resubmission can cost several days. That is why we do a dry run against the review checklist a week before the planned submission.
- Week 1: screen list, Apple enrolment started, backend plan
- Weeks 2–3: screen designs approved on your phone
- Weeks 3–7: build cycles with TestFlight builds every few days
- Week 8: device testing matrix, fixes, review checklist dry run
- Weeks 9–10: store listing, submission, reviewer questions, release
If your date is fixed, for a festive season sale or an exhibition, we trim features to fit the date and keep testing intact. The app build timeline guide shows how each scope choice stretches or shortens the schedule.
What does it cost to add iOS to an existing Android app?
If your Android app is already built in Flutter or React Native, the iOS app development cost in India covers mostly setup, fixes and review, a fraction of a new build. If it is written natively in Kotlin or Java, the iPhone version is effectively a new app, and you should compare a native Swift rebuild with moving both platforms to one cross-platform codebase.
For a cross-platform Android app, we first audit the code. We look for Android-only packages, native Android code, hard-coded file paths, push notification setup that only uses Android’s channels, and payment SDKs without iOS support. Each finding becomes a line in the quote. Then come Apple account setup, signing, iOS permission texts in plain language, iPhone layout fixes, Sign in with Apple if social login exists, account deletion if it was missing, and the review.
The native Kotlin case is where the choice matters most. Writing a separate Swift app doubles your maintenance forever. Rebuilding once in Flutter or React Native costs more upfront than a straight port, but every future change is made once. For a small business the rebuild is often the better long-term choice, and we price both options side by side so you can see the trade-off in rupees, not opinions.
- Flutter or React Native Android app: audit, fix, publish to App Store
- Kotlin or Java Android app: native Swift port or cross-platform rebuild
- Either way: Apple account, privacy details and review prep
iOS app development cost in India after launch: the yearly bill
After launch, an iPhone app has a small but unavoidable yearly cost. The Apple membership renews at US$99 a year, the backend or server bills monthly, and every new iOS release needs a compatibility check. None of it is large for a small app; ignoring it is what gets expensive.
Apple changes something every year. A new iOS version arrives, a new Xcode becomes mandatory for uploads, privacy requirements tighten. Apple has required a privacy manifest with approved reasons for certain APIs since 1 May 2024, and the App Privacy details in App Store Connect must stay accurate whenever your data practices or third-party SDKs change. An app nobody updates for two years may still run, but the day you need an urgent fix you may first have to upgrade the whole toolchain.
BtechWaleTech includes 2 months of free maintenance after launch. After that, optional care starts at ₹8,000/mo and covers the yearly iOS and Android updates, package upgrades and small fixes. Our app maintenance cost page breaks down what a care plan usually includes.
- Apple Developer Program renewal, US$99 a year
- Server or managed backend usage, monthly
- OTP and SMS charges if login uses phone numbers
- Yearly iOS SDK and Xcode update, plus a retest
- Privacy details refresh when you add an SDK
How to choose an iOS app developer in India, and warning signs in a quote
Pick a developer who can show apps live on the App Store under their clients’ names, gives you an itemised quote and enrols the Apple account in your name. Everything else, including a low iOS app development cost in India, is secondary. Search the App Store for the apps they mention and check the seller name on each listing: it should be the client, not the developer.
Ask them to describe the last rejection they handled and what they changed. Rejections are a normal part of publishing on iOS; a clear answer shows they understand guidelines rather than luck. Ask which iPhones they test on, how you will receive test builds, and who writes the privacy details. Our list of questions to ask an app developer is a ready script for that first call.
- Red flag: the app will be published “from our account for now”
- Red flag: one lump-sum figure with no screens or backend listed
- Red flag: a website wrapped in an app shell, sold as an iPhone app
- Red flag: no named test devices, only “we check on simulator”
- Red flag: a promise of top App Store ranking or guaranteed approval
- Good sign: TestFlight builds for you every few days
- Good sign: demo account and account deletion mentioned unprompted

Who owns the App Store listing, certificates and source code?
Whatever your iOS app development cost in India, you should own the Apple Developer account, the App Store listing, the bundle identifier, the signing certificates, the push notification keys and the source code repository. With BtechWaleTech that is the default: you enrol, invite us with the roles we need, and remove us whenever you choose.
This matters more on iOS than people expect. An app’s listing, ratings and reviews live inside the account that published it. Apple’s App Store Connect help says a transferred app keeps its ratings, reviews and bundle ID, but the app must meet Apple’s transfer criteria and the current account holder has to start the transfer. If a former developer is unreachable or unwilling, you can end up publishing a brand-new listing with zero reviews.
At handover you receive the code, a short build guide, the list of packages and their versions, the backend environment details and a calendar of renewal dates: Apple membership, domain and any certificates. If you later change developers, the new person should be able to build and submit an update within a day or two.
App Store search, app speed and AI answers for an iPhone app
People find iPhone apps through App Store search, your website and increasingly through AI assistants that suggest apps by name. Planning for all three at build time adds little to iOS app development cost in India; retrofitting it costs more.
Inside the App Store, the app name, subtitle and the hidden keywords field carry most of the weight for search, and screenshots plus ratings decide whether someone taps install. We write these around the words your customers actually type, and we place the ratings prompt after a moment of success, such as a completed booking. Our app store optimisation service continues this work after launch if you want it.
Speed and stability show up in reviews, and reviews affect installs. We track launch time, crashes and slow screens with crash reporting from the first TestFlight build. Outside the store, a simple web page for the app that states what it does, who it is for, where it works and how much it costs helps Google and AI search tools describe it accurately. Nobody can promise a top position in the App Store or on Google; what we can do is remove the reasons an app gets passed over.
iOS app development across India
We build iPhone apps remotely for businesses anywhere in India, so your city does not change the iOS app development cost; the scope does. Where iPhone ownership is concentrated tends to follow income, corporate employment and international links, which is why the case for iOS varies by city and by sector.
Startups and consumer brands in Bengaluru, Gurgaon and Mumbai usually launch on both stores from the start, because early adopters and investors test on iPhones. Premium clinics and fitness studios in Hyderabad and Pune often find their members split across both platforms. Hospitality and NRI-facing businesses in Kochi, Panaji and Chandigarh serve guests and families abroad who carry iPhones. Exporters in Ahmedabad and Jaipur want order-tracking apps their overseas buyers can install.
The working pattern is the same everywhere: a WhatsApp chat, a screen list, an itemised quote in about two working days, calls in English or Hindi, and TestFlight builds you open on your own phone. We do not visit offices, and we do not need to.
Before you ask for an iOS app quote: a one-page checklist
A short brief gets you comparable iPhone app quotes and a lower iOS app development cost in India, because developers pad estimates when they have to guess. Answer these in plain words; sketches photographed on a phone are fine.
- Which phones your paying customers use, from analytics or observation
- iPhone only, or iPhone and Android together
- Numbered list of screens with one line on what each does
- Login: phone OTP, email, Google, Apple
- What users pay for: physical goods and services, or digital content inside the app
- Admin needs: who manages bookings, orders, users and content
- Native extras: widgets, Apple Watch, background location, Bluetooth
- Legal entity for Apple enrolment, and whether you have a D-U-N-S number
- Launch date and what it is tied to
- Budget range, so scope can be shaped around it
On a tight budget? Kam paise me app kaise banwaye has scope-cutting ideas in simple Hinglish.
Worked example: should a hypothetical Kolkata tea brand build for iPhone?
Say a family tea brand in Kolkata sells packaged Darjeeling and Assam tea on its website, to local cafés on credit, and to NRI customers in the UK and the Gulf who reorder every few months. The owners ask whether an iPhone app is worth it. This scenario is invented to show our reasoning; it is not a client project.
We would start with their own data. Suppose the website analytics show most Indian retail visitors on Android, but a large share of overseas repeat buyers on iPhones, and the café owners split between both. That points to a cross-platform app on both stores rather than Android only, because the customers who reorder most would be the ones left out.
Scope for version one: phone or email sign-in with Sign in with Apple beside Google login, product catalogue, reorder with one tap, order tracking, café credit statement, push notifications for new harvests, and in-app account deletion. Payments are physical goods, so the brand’s normal payment provider works on iPhone and no in-app purchase is needed. The café credit ledger needs a small admin panel.
The iOS app development cost in India for this brand lands close to our ₹40,000 starting price, with the admin panel and international shipping rules as separate lines. A subscription tea club was on the wish list; it moves to phase two, because recurring card billing and GST invoices add their own work. Timeline: about eight weeks, plus a few days for Apple review.
